The instrument is called a Nøkkelharpe, key harp, and is an old traditional instrument with keys and strings., It is not determined wether it originates from Norway or Sweden, but both countries uses it. And it is the national instrument of Sweden.

@@ClevyReactsToo The name might suggest it is a harp, but it is more of a fiddle. Direct translation is either key harp, as mentioned, or keyed fiddle (I usually use the last, since it is more precise), but the Swedish name nyckelharpa is used in English. In Norwegian it will be nøkkelharpe.

Hi, I am Norwegian 🇧🇻 The singing in the beginning of the song is "kulokk", tradditionally how they called the cows to them in the contryside. The text is telling a 1000 year old folklore story about an evil stepmother cursing her stepdaugter to be a wolf alone in the forrest. And the only way she can break the curse is to drink her brothers blood. In the end she sees her stepmother in the forrest so she attacks and eats her. Turns out her stepmother was pregnant, leading her to drink her brothers blood and breaks the curse.

The letter Å-å is pronounced like the first A in Awful, All, Allready. (Go-te, Gaw-te) We selected the right winner. Gåte are fantastic. Deserves to win the ESC in my opinion.

You are right. Gåte is a band where everyone is involved. They have been a band for 20 years. That instrument is a nøkkelharpe (nyckelharpa wich is actually Swedish). The song is based on a 1000 year old tale wich speak of jealousy, old nordic magic (ganning) and the maiden in the story's journey and struggle.

The name Gåte means riddle/mystery (can be used as both). Ulveham means something like wolf-clad/-pelt/- disguise.

Gåte has the same vowel as Måneskin...so if you know how to say the å in Måneskin, then you just use the same sound in Gåte. Other than that you did well. Gåte is very famous in Norway and are known for being one of the best live bands we have. Norwegians are immensely proud to have them as our representatives this year and they are probably the most eatablished act we have ever sent to Eurovision, which says a lot! We almost always send only newcomers to Eurovision ‐ this time it is a band with 4 records relased and loads of EPs as well. I am extatic ❤

Many people are not aware of what she actually sings, which in my opinion is a cruel text from the old days. The text copied from newspaper: She summarizes "Ulveham", based on an old medieval ballad, as the story of an evil stepmother who casts a curse on her stepdaughter - who turns into a wolf running in the forest forever. She only loses her wolf's hide if she drinks her own brother's blood. "There will be a kind of happy - but cruel - ending when she meets the stepmother on horseback in the forest, throws herself at her, rips out her heart and drinks the blood. Because the stepmother is pregnant with her brother - thereby the curse is lifted.

De baserer musikken sin på folketradisjoner og teksten bygger på gamle historier og tekster fra middelalderen og eldre. Stemoren er ond og har lagt en forhekselse over stedatteren sin. Det handler rett og slett om frigjøring fra noen som har makt over deg, på egne betingelser.

you are soooo cute, hihi I am from germany and i love them so much! The singer of Gåte is the Norwegian Goddess of Viking singers! The instrument is a NØKKELHARPE in German it is called a Drehleier but HERE(!) a special version which you can also use like a Violin!!!! it is an instrument from the european middleages, very seldom.
