Taking note from Libya, one could expect to see a power vacuum which ISIS/Al-Nusra will exploit and cause absolute chaos. You could expect to see poverty, you could expect to see chattel slavery, and you could expect to see living conditions drastically fall. It simply does not matter what you think of Assad or the government he represents, the alternative to it is much, much worse.

Is interesting to note that before the russians intervene, the russians offered the removal of BA from power after the US was announcing that "he had to go" and they rejected that offer beceuse at the time they believed that they could take him out. Which shows you that BA has never been an issue.
Scott, we need to get out of Syria and stop funding the war. President Trump is going to make sure that happens. I know the Assad regime and that of his father were and are highly oppressive and I understand why someone living in Syria might "want freedom" but to support the elimination of the regime makes one a rebel and there's no such thing as an innocent rebel. They may be people deserving of our sympathy and they may be worth supporting and protecting, but if they're actively seeking freedom from Assad one thing they are not is innocent.
The future state of Kurdistan is likely to get a piece of northern Syria, and regardless of what other objectives Assad was able to achieve, it's looking like the final analysis for Syria will be that it's a failed state that ultimately gets partitioned. It hasn't happened yet, but it very much can still go that way.

A political conflict can exist without a military conflict. Political conflict is a standard process in a democratic society resolved mostly by political settlement or influenced by the voice of the people (majority). So we let the people decide through suffrage (election). But for a minority to supplant a duly elected government through armed conflict is a tyranny of the minority. In such case, the government has to expunge the little fire before it grows big. In this, the Syrian government failed since foreign entities have been sending firewood to forward their agenda.

Frankly, the issue cannot be so simple as a double standard or not when all social, political, and foreign interests are taken into account. However, there are some significant discrepancies between the motives as well as the outcomes when comparing Turkish intervention and American. Which brings me to my next point. For the sake of this argument, I will focus on comparing America and The Republic of Turkey because the current institutions and societal structure of Turkey today is different than that of its Ottoman Days (however, current aims point towards a more Ottoman-like cultural). This being said, I will be responding to the questions posed to matters concerning The Republic of Turkey rather than those of the Ottoman Empire. Now in response to your question about Palestinian autonomy versus that of the Kurdish region and why the two are weighed differently. The answer to this question can be broken down quite simply at the surface but requires far more depth when examined to a greater extent. It is Turkey's best interest to eliminate the possibility of a.) A Kurdish Satellite State by the U.S as well as b.) Eliminating terrorist connections between YPG and PKK (as seen in their recent advancements in Northern Syria. Modern day relations don't come down to double standards; it is merely a nation attempting to protect its best interests through the practice of various policies which have the potential to conflict each other in principal, but the outcome is always designed to be the same; the protection of the state's interests. Palestine poses no such threats to Turkey. In fact, the support given either in words or resources plays into the heads of the current Prime Minister Erdogan because it is a popular belief among his supporters that Palestine should be free. The cultural make up of the current electorate for the party in charge (AKP) is predominantly anti-Western so Pro-Palestinian stances allow him to bolster popularity among his base. In the eyes of many Turks, the Kurdish nation would pose a more imminent threat than its current presence already does, whereas Palestine poses no such threat. To your next question. It is not the people that are viewed as imperialists but rather it is the (past and current) policies of the government that lead many to view the American government in a negative light. A whole religion will (hopefully) never be committed only to terrorism but a government will have designated policies which, like I mentioned above, are consistent with its interests. Conclusively, it is rational for a government to be perceived in a certain way and "stereotyped" if you will because of the consistency among that institution. Whereas in Islam, you will not find that terrorism is a consistent objective amongst its followers. In fact, any such assumption that Islam can in any way support terrorism is ludacris. ISIL is a political incarnation that is motivated by the struggle for power, not the struggle for faith. Hope this helps!

So, US troops in Syria are ILLEGAL following international law for they are not invited by the syrian gvt (recognized by the UN)..... Syria "has the right to defend itself" (quote US gvt) from invaders... as every other state - right?
