@@snowleopard3470 It doesn't matter if every single person who opposes Assad is a terrorist (and many who fought against Syria were), what matters is what happens if the government falls. Taking note from Libya, one could expect to see a power vacuum which ISIS/Al-Nusra will exploit and cause absolute chaos. You could expect to see poverty, you could expect to see chattel slavery, and you could expect to see living conditions drastically fall. It simply does not matter what you think of Assad or the government he represents, the alternative to it is much, much worse.

Russia was invited by Sovereignt State Syria in support of fighting against a proxy war and terrorism. I'm not saying BA is an angel, however, I don't support regime change and/or Iraq/Lybia 2.0

Is interesting to note that before the russians intervene, the russians offered the removal of BA from power after the US was announcing that "he had to go" and they rejected that offer beceuse at the time they believed that they could take him out. Which shows you that BA has never been an issue.

Scott, we need to get out of Syria and stop funding the war. President Trump is going to make sure that happens. I do not want my tax dollars going towards regime change, we have had too much of that in the past and millions of civilians including children have been killed. The United States poured $4 trillion in Iraq and over 1 million people were killed in order to bring democracy to the nation according to Bush, how has that benefitted anyone except by increasing the national debt? Would you want to lose loved ones and be personally injured for the sake of so-called democracy and regime change when the people who come to power are also going to be corrupt? Democracy + Corruption = Anti-Democracy. We need peace in the world and not political idealism. Look at China, they are not a democratic country. Look at Saudi Arabia, they are not a democratic country. But yet we trade with them. What you do not understand is that Assad has won the war. The minute President Trump pulls American troops and military support to the opposition, they will crumble. The opposition cannot fight against the major powers supporting Assad, it is a lost cause. And the terrorists have been turned into rubble by the Russians. The fact that the Europeans have taken an aggressive stance against Russia means that the Europeans will no longer be able to influence or restrain Russian actions in unilaterally supporting their allies around the world. We are now sadly seeing the end of deplomacy.

greeko25 the purpose is to weeken Israel's neighbors by dividing them up into smaller more controllable entities. Insuring that Israel becomes a regional power. From Iraq to Afghanistan to Libya this is their purpose. They are following The Yinon Plan. Even though they failed in taking out Bashir al-assad Syria is now much weaker country and less likely to ever regain the Golan Heights.

Yes he has: in 2015 when Russia stepped in In 2016 he doomed the terrorists in Aleppo In 2018 the last major thorn in his side, Ghouta is almost done with The rebels never had the means to fully take on the State, in any outcome Russia would have stepped in to act directly...if not in 2015 then at some point down the road. "Innocent people who just want their freedom from Assad…" That's a really curious statement. I know the Assad regime and that of his father were and are highly oppressive and I understand why someone living in Syria might "want freedom" but to support the elimination of the regime makes one a rebel and there's no such thing as an innocent rebel. They may be people deserving of our sympathy and they may be worth supporting and protecting, but if they're actively seeking freedom from Assad one thing they are not is innocent.

The future state of Kurdistan is likely to get a piece of northern Syria, and regardless of what other objectives Assad was able to achieve, it's looking like the final analysis for Syria will be that it's a failed state that ultimately gets partitioned. It hasn't happened yet, but it very much can still go that way.

I think the main reason why Russia is fully supporting Assad becauss as we have learned in the past, when the core leader of a muslim country crumbles, a lot of different group leaders will fight its own way to the top which ultimately destroys the central governance. "Worst man made disaster since world war two" Nowhere near... the third world war, known in The West(tm) as the "cold war", but was actually a brutal war on the third world, was far worse and on a far greater scale than anything today... Henry Kissinger's order was "anything that flies on everything that moves". When asked about the planeloads of bombs dropped on Laos during a senate testimony came the answer "Well, we had all those planes sitting around and couldn’t just let them stay there with nothing to do". They bombed people to save the fuel of otherwise having to carry unused bombs back to base... they didn't even pretend they were terrorists. People are still being blown to pieces in Laos today from the ordinances left over from the late 1960s... they still can't build on that land. And that's just Laos, add to that the other countries involved in the IndoChina region during the third world war like Vietnam and Cambodia, plus practically the entire continents of Africa and South America, the brutality across Indonesia... this is why we call it "the cold war", we get to pretend it never happened.

The US, Britain and France are insane. They are losing all credibility. If Assad's military uses chemical weapons, it would be like saying "come and kill me". It is obvious that Syria can destroy these religious nut cases that remain in Idlib without using chemical weapons. The last claimed Syrian chemical weapons attack in Duma was proven beyond doubt that it DID NOT HAPPEN and was staged by these white helmets. Even the claimed victims denied that it happened. The people of the US should wake up before it is too late. We are all being railroaded by our media. I am a lifelong american in Tennessee, I am trying to make this fact known.

no offense, but do we even need the american point of view in these table discussions on syria anymore? They aren't backing the kurds, and the 'terrorists' are near defeat, they don't really have much 'stake' there anymore.

Why always USA must sort out the humanitarian situations, what about the rest of the world ?...........What about the European Union ? What about the Muslim countries who are flush with oil money ? Everyone expects the USA to solve the world's problems, and as soon as the USA gets involved those same people criticize their every action ! Why not ask China or Russia or Germany to take charge and spend their money for a change ?

This Rami guy 'its now ok to say you support a dictator' erm buddy, have you not grasped western (and Russian) engagement with the Middle East since the discovery of oil. (For that matter across South america as well for the yanks). Its always been ok to say you support a dictator, only dictators and autocratic strongmen can be trustd to be our allies in these regions ( so goes conventional wisdom)

A political conflict can exist without a military conflict. Political conflict is a standard process in a democratic society resolved mostly by political settlement or influenced by the voice of the people (majority). So we let the people decide through suffrage (election). But for a minority to supplant a duly elected government through armed conflict is a tyranny of the minority. In such case, the government has to expunge the little fire before it grows big. In this, the Syrian government failed since foreign entities have been sending firewood to forward their agenda.

I have questions for all Arabs & TUrks brothers here( without any hatred)!! You all hate American & Russian Imperialism & interference in your affairs!! What about Arab & Turkish imperialism for the past 1200 years! what about the killings ,forced cultural changes,looting plunder in territories from Persia,India,Byzantine,Eygpt,Central asia etc.how do you view them?? ,are you proud of your victories or strength or you see that it was a complex issue with both positive & negative sides?? now Americans ,earlier Britishers & french used to conquer by force or Bribe regional leaders to install their puppets & use them to appropriate nations resources & take that to their own lands & people!! did not the Arabs throughout History do the same ,looting from other nations & building cities & massive stores of wealth out of it!did not the Turks through ottoman empire subjugate others by Force & did all sort of Barbarities on local populations while repressing any revolt!! so while we see colonial powers were trying to look for own selfish interests while telling their own populations that they were doing this in the name of Justice,democracy & peace,the Arabs & turks also did the same thing _SELF iNTEREST- while telling people that it was done in the name of God & Justice!! if they are imposing (west) & did their culture & language & way of life in other nations , did not the arabs do the same? ,forcing it on middle east !! Did not the turks/arabs force the original population out of Balkans,Kashmir,Sindh,Byzantine out only to bring their ethnically related people & resettle them in these new places? ,wasnt this an injustice to the regions original inhabitants & their Rights? if you are angry about Palestine issue why are you not angry on these issues also?? how are you different form today's imperialists then?? why is palestine's freedom important while Kurdish freedom repressed??If generalising nations/religions on the basis of actions of some people is wrong (ISIS is not islam) then how are Americans related to imperialism?,How ISrael is related to state terrorism? You also hate mongols who killed & plundered millions but when same was done by arabs & turks , i do not see any self criticism or reflection!! isnt this hypocricy & while other's Imperialism is barbaric & satanic your own nations's imperialism is a" force of God", "civilising the savages" & killing" terrorists"! what do you think?? Humans are all equal & same all around the bad & good spread evenly among populations,the repressor & victim change positions only from time to time!!for peace & justice to happen each must correct own mistakes than focus solelyon the fault of others !! Zaur B ,only when we understand the past,can we understand the present, only when we bring Justice for the past wrongs can we create a peacefull & Just Future for all!! Both are important ,but yes present wrong is more important ,but what if the source of present wrong is there in the past wrongs!! maybe we could solve the present issue by understanding the past injustices!! we should address all wrongs whether past ,present because every action regardless of age creates a series of reactions & negatives which if unaddressed brings a disaster in future!! in our world ,each & every one should be accountable for every wrong committed!!

Hello Kanishka, First of all I appreciate the questions as they are ones that many others throughout the world should be considering as well; is there a double standard? Frankly, the issue cannot be so simple as a double standard or not when all social, political, and foreign interests are taken into account. However, there are some significant discrepancies between the motives as well as the outcomes when comparing Turkish intervention and American. Which brings me to my next point. For the sake of this argument, I will focus on comparing America and The Republic of Turkey because the current institutions and societal structure of Turkey today is different than that of its Ottoman Days (however, current aims point towards a more Ottoman-like cultural). This being said, I will be responding to the questions posed to matters concerning The Republic of Turkey rather than those of the Ottoman Empire. Now in response to your question about Palestinian autonomy versus that of the Kurdish region and why the two are weighed differently. The answer to this question can be broken down quite simply at the surface but requires far more depth when examined to a greater extent. It is Turkey's best interest to eliminate the possibility of a.) A Kurdish Satellite State by the U.S as well as b.) Eliminating terrorist connections between YPG and PKK (as seen in their recent advancements in Northern Syria. Modern day relations don't come down to double standards; it is merely a nation attempting to protect its best interests through the practice of various policies which have the potential to conflict each other in principal, but the outcome is always designed to be the same; the protection of the state's interests. Palestine poses no such threats to Turkey. In fact, the support given either in words or resources plays into the heads of the current Prime Minister Erdogan because it is a popular belief among his supporters that Palestine should be free. The cultural make up of the current electorate for the party in charge (AKP) is predominantly anti-Western so Pro-Palestinian stances allow him to bolster popularity among his base. In the eyes of many Turks, the Kurdish nation would pose a more imminent threat than its current presence already does, whereas Palestine poses no such threat. To your next question. It is not the people that are viewed as imperialists but rather it is the (past and current) policies of the government that lead many to view the American government in a negative light. A whole religion will (hopefully) never be committed only to terrorism but a government will have designated policies which, like I mentioned above, are consistent with its interests. Conclusively, it is rational for a government to be perceived in a certain way and "stereotyped" if you will because of the consistency among that institution. Whereas in Islam, you will not find that terrorism is a consistent objective amongst its followers. In fact, any such assumption that Islam can in any way support terrorism is ludacris. ISIL is a political incarnation that is motivated by the struggle for power, not the struggle for faith. Hope this helps!

UN Charter Art. 2: 3 All Members shall settle their international disputes by peaceful means in such a manner that international peace and security, and justice, are not endangered. 4 All Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations. So, US troops in Syria are ILLEGAL following international law for they are not invited by the syrian gvt (recognized by the UN)..... Syria "has the right to defend itself" (quote US gvt) from invaders... as every other state - right?
