The Serpent is an eight-episode British miniseries created by Warlow and Finlay, directed by Mammoth Screen and commissioned by the BBC for Netflix.
It is based on the story of the French serial killer, Charles Sobhraj, who murdered young tourists between 1975 and 1976 in Southeast Asia.
Set in mid-1970s Bangkok, the series follows the story of the killer Sobhraj and his accomplice Marie-Andrée Leclerc.
The title of the series is based on the nickname given to Charles Sobhraj at the time: he was called "the serpent" in reference to his ability to escape from the police.
He steals the passports and identities of his victims to travel the world and sell stolen jewels.
Herman Knippenberg, a Dutch diplomat, begins investigating the murders of Dutch tourists and discovers clues leading to Sobhraj.
Filming begins in August 2019 in Bangkok but the pandemic imposes a 5-month break, the end of production will take place in England.
The producers finally mixed the new shots with those shot in Thailand without major rewriting of the script.
