My wife and I did the same trip in 2010,departing from the old station aboard the old train. Our journey took 5 hours longer, because of flooding, but we didn't mind because we were on holiday and alway felt safe! We stayed for 15 days on Koh Samui Island... I highly recommend this trip.
I wanted to do this from Bangkok to Chiang Mai but didn’t have enough time to do it. Definitely looks like a fun experience and easy on the wallet❤ I love how everything flips into a bed, so cool.
What super adventure!! I love trains. I have traveled on trains in about 15 different countries and loved everyone of them. In Thailand I took the train from Bangkok to Chang Mai 23 years ago. 3rd class seat. Plastic seats with no cushions for a 12 hour trip as I recall. LOVED IT! Thanks for sharing your trip.
I just discovered your wonderful RU-vid channel and videos. I find your video contents very helpful, funny, high quality (of the shots and editing and etc) and so personal. I also appreciate your "matured" attitude toward the people and places you visit. You two are just so adorable and funny. And this current video is something I was pondering if my family should do it as we are planning to visit Thailand very soon. Thank you so much!
Wow curious if you noticed if transport way cheaper in Malaysia? I see flights for only 475 thb from KL to Langkawi 👌But a flight frm BKK to USM is $2150 thb! 😅
@@bluestarfishsea kl to lankawee is nearer and 1 more thing Samui is private airport that some investors thay did business That made everything more expensive
I love travelling by train. I took the local train from sungai kolok to hatyai just last month. I had wanted to take the train up to surat thani as well, but the journey would've taken a huge chunk out of our vacation time. Maybe next time. The Thai sleeper train looks better than our Msian one that runs on the east coast
WOW! It's so amazing that you both went around Thailand within 25 hours on a flight. Flora and Note you both are the best. As a loyal subscriber I love you both and respect you both Flora and Note. The Malaysia series was great as well. How is the weather in Thailand now?
We are also in our favourite place in Samui staying at Prana at Bangrak we are from Queensland Australia and we have been following your journey since the beginning it would be amazing to say Hi in person . 🤗
Sorry we missed you! We went to Koh Samui from March 15-18th. We are in Koh Muk right now but are heading to Koh Lipe ( my favourite island) from April 2-10th, staying at Satun Dive Resort. So if you’re not busy…. Oh and we are Canadian from Edmonton Alberta!
only Thais know this charm of traveling by the train.... every stop has its own famous food.... this so bring back my memory, thanks very much....love it ❤❤❤❤
Great video Flora and Note! Thanks for sharing your experience. We always fly around Thailand but I think we will try the train next time, especially with our overweight bags of 70kg LOL 😂 (which costs more than the flight itself). We are currently in Phuket and heading to Koh Samui next month, hopefully we bump into you there
Great tip on the new Bangkok station Krung Thep Aphiwat. I live Samui and a week ago spent half a day trying to book online from Surat to Bangkok. Finally, in frustration, my Thai partner rang her nephew in Bangkok who told us the above information.
I was so happy a person I met in Bangkok had suggested I take the overnight sleeper train to Koh Tao (got off at Chumphon station). This was at the old train station last summer. I ended up getting a suite to myself for 1600 baht. That decision lead me to call Koh Samui home! Welcome back! My girlfriend thought she saw you guys at the coffee shop next to her restaurant. lol Did your train actually arrive on time?! I'd recommend adding at least a couple hours typically to their estimated arrival time. Note, I feel your pain. I fell out of my bunk bed in my sleep when I was like 6 years old. Luckily I was not injured badly other than getting the wind knocked out of me. lol
@Judy Mckee You'll have a fantastic time on Samui. It has a bit of everything for everyone. Check out Flora and Notes Koh Samui videos. There is a lot of good information there. I hope you have an excellent time!
I've done this trip a few times from the old train station. It's really nice and I always booked a private cabin. I find it difficult to get to the new station so I'm happy to pay the high cost of Bangkok air (there are never any discounts) when I go to Samui for a few weeks each year. Years ago, I did the night train to Chang Mai - when they could sell alcohol - disco carriage with lights and 80s music. Beds on the train are really comfy - staff are always good.
I remember 15 years ago I took overnight 2nd class sleeper train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok. It was OK but sleeping on upper bunker was a little hassle when I needed to come down due to nature call. BTW, the reason to ban alcohol was a tragic story about 2 decades ago when a temporary train employee got drunk and came to a passenger sleep compartment and raped a girl, then dumped her out of the train to death. If my memory is still good, he was sentenced to death. Since then alcohol was banned on the train.
I love your videos. Always charming and professionel. But I would prefer the direct flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui with Bangkok Airways. Prices starting at 2.160 Thai Baht.
I'm sad to see the new trains don't have windows in the sleeping bunks. One of my favorite nights was watching out the window all night all the way down to Surat Thani about ten years ago.
The train journey (first from Singapore/Kuala Lumpur/Penang and the second leg to Bangkok), the Hotel, and the ferry have been added to my itinerary. Thanks for the detailed video crammed with tips for travellers.
Enjoyed every second 👋😃 I enjoy getting a train when travelling - even if it’s a long trip - gives you some time to take in stuff and appreciate where you are . Luv snippets of Surat Thani and the ferry ride. “ the journey is just as good as the destination “ Welcome home
Cool trip. Train ride is always interesting to watch, but the actual experience is usually not as exciting as it shows in the video, especially you guys did such a great job showing us.
Thank you guys I have been pondering way to go to Koh Samui from last 3 days in Bangkok now 2maro morning I will leave hope I can see you guys if your there😊
Welcome back to Bangkok. Flora said Car number 5. 12 hour train ride. Nice sunset]. Goodnight Flora and Note, YES I saw Flora sticking her head out and waving bye. Welcome Home. Absolutely Loved Every Minute
I made this trip a couple of times in 2015 and 2016 on my way to Ko Tao, great memories. The new trains and station look brilliant, but I really loved the old trains and the station at Hua Lamphong had so much character, it was like going back in time. I will miss it next time I visit. Great vlog as always!
We think the old trains are probably more fun, because they allow the food vendors to come on board to sell snacks. But we couldn't resist these new comfortable train beds for the 12 hour ride 😁
Thanks for the update of taking the trip on train from BKK to Koh Samui. I will have to try that trip on train next time. I took Thai Air in 10/2022 from Koh Samui Airport to BKK airport and was $143.00 USD one way, still was a good trip and all good. Thanks Flora and Note for the Video.
By experience , (I tried all the different way to go to Samui from Bangkok ) , I recommand the package deal they re selling at Don mueang airport : domestic flight to Surat Thani, bus transfert to the dock and boat ticket included for around 1000 baths , faster nicer and very convenient compare to Train or rip off Bangkok Airways direct flight super expensive tickets .
Hi again guys. Can you help? How were you able to get drone footage in an authorisation area? There is no way I could get my Dji drone to fly there, I even have trouble with it anywhere airport side of the hills. I did get it to fly one time at restricted distance etc, but that no longer seems possible with latest update. I realise this is a private conversation btw 😊
Wow! Things have changed!! Last time I took a train in Thailand, I was eaten alive by mosquitos during floods AND the toilet was a hole in the floor :D
Hi Flora and note I'm subscriber to your channel long time ago, from France, could you please made a vlog to show us, how you do from train station at surathani to ferry boat to go Samui please, thanks.
I'm your subscriber and fans from Malaysia, and I'm now in Koh Samui with my boyfriend!! But we're leaving tomorrow. Hope that we are able to see you guys before leaving tomorrow. Let's see 🥺💕
We saw that you pre-purchased the train tickets on your phone, but did you also pay for the bus and boat or pay a ticket at the bus station/pier? Great video! 🤙
How does the train compare to the bus. I have taken the bus many times. Grosses thing happened to me on the bus. They brought us little plastic cups of water which was fine til they came and picked up the plastic cup and realized they were saving them for the next group. hahaha One tip always keep your ticket handy. I got on the bus and showed them my ticket, thinking I was good shoved my ticket in the backpack, about halfway they asked to see everyone's ticket again. It was late the bus was packed. I could not find it. They made me pay again.
Hi, I’m going over to Hua Hin from Bangkok. I’m wondering if it’s possible to buy the tickets online through the railway website? Or do I have to be buy it from the counters there?
We mentioned in the video that choosing “Bangkok” won’t yield results because the Bangkok train station is now called “Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal”
3000-4000baht for a flight to Surat Thani I have to massively disagree with this information. Flights are roughly 1000baht. You can get a direct flight to Koh Samui for roughly 3000baht. The way you travel is very expensive when you way up cost against time. Plus you had to pay for food and hotels then a ferry. I would not recommend this route unless a train enthusiast
i agree, artches1, but perhaps a youtube channel is always looking for the best option to create an interesting/prolonged video which will attract more viewers/likes/subscribers ? maybe..
Flora and Notes version of Planes Trains and Automobiles.. just wondering who’s Steve Martin and who’s John Candy🤔 🫢 Best not to get into Flora and Notes bad books 😉🤣. Now Let’s Go 👍
