Allow me to share one of the most incredible mornings of my life so far, in which me and my dad walked out into the desert just outside Naftah, Tunisia looking for a 40-year-old hut. This is, in fact, the set that was built for the original Star Wars film during the shooting block that took place in Tunisia, way back in 1976. This particular set served as the moisture farm in which Luke Skywalker grew up, and has become an iconic location in cinema. Since the production team couldn't afford to take the set back to London with them, it was left here to become derelict over time, but has since been rebuilt by fans, who crowd-funded the restoration project in 2011, making it a very special location for other fans to visit.
If you decide to take this trip for yourself, make sure you research and plan extensively before you do so - as we failed to do! The area has been known to slip in and out of the 'no-go-zone' for tourists as advised by the British government as it is very close to the border with Algeria. We were lucky to visit it at a point where it was safe, but that may change in future.
