One of viewers asked about where I stayed so here it is. www.airbnb.com/rooms/972095119370840179?adults=1&children=0&enable_m3_private_room=true&infants=0&pets=0&check_in=2024-01-27&check_out=2024-02-01&source_impression_id=p3_1699829941_uyF0qjsTDnJCcb1y&previous_page_section_name=1000&federated_search_id=a137166b-8a0c-491b-971c-233590336cd8 If you do decide to visit Taipei, I strongly recommend this place because of its location. But most importantly, Brad is a generous and kind host so he will take good care of you!
Dear friends and family, We thoroughly enjoyed the warm hospitality and kindness of Taiwanese that has made this an awesome trip. To be honest, this trip would have been very challenging if it weren't for the help from a lot of friends we made in Taiwan. So, I want to show this beautiful side of Taiwan. I have kept a lot of the interactions with the locals in the video and kept the B roll/music to a minimum. I hope my limited editing skills does the job. Did you experience the friendliness of the Taiwanese? Let me know what you think. Thank you friends of Taiwan. I hope you enjoy the video.
Very interesting video of Taiwan ! Detailed introduction of the street food with your deliberation on food taste and texture and I quite like the random store you chose but not those famous ones but inside hidden alleys! Enjoy your British accent too! Welcome to Taiwan!
Thanks for your kind words and feedback. I’ve always believe the way to experience a country is to go where the locals go. Interesting you mentioned I have British accent. I suppose Australia is closer to British then American. 😁🤓 Thanks again for watching. 🙏
Sure enough, Taiwanese choose Sanshui Street (Xinfu) Market, which is not often visited by foreigners. They usually go to the Huaxi Street business district to eat at gourmet restaurants recommended by Michelin Bib Gourmand. Weekly Handmade home-cooked noodles are considered to be the points of evaluation with more than 4 stars. When traveling to Taiwan, I hope not to miss beef noodles.
想喝咖啡的話除了買7-11或全家等便利商店隨處都有外,街頭上連鎖型的路易莎和cama café都是不錯的選擇,都會是NT100元以下 If you want to drink coffee, in addition to convenience stores such as 7-11 or FamilyMart, which are available everywhere, the chain Louisa and cama cafés on the street are good choices, and the price is less than NT$100.
Thanks. We had a great time in Taiwan. It felt like home because of how friendly Taiwanese are. Just an amazing place with amazing people. Will visit again.
Hi, the link for your staying place in Taiwan seems not to work. Can you give the link again ? My family also speak three languages as you do, so it is grateful to watch your channel. 💕💕
Hi, I checked the link in the description box and it works for me. Anyway, I have provided the link here. Its great to speak multiple languages and if Mandarin is one of them, you will enjoy Taiwan much more! Hope your family have a blast in Taiwan! @@journeywiththejongs Thanks for the link above, and it works. I am a Taiwanese, but I have lived in Tokyo for 20 years. My kids had studied in and works in States now. I feel so related when I watch your videos. way to go.
@@journeywiththejongs All around Kyushu. Fukuoka Kumamoto Kagoshima Beppu.then onto Hiroshima Kurashiki. I'm not going East this time unfortunately, made it a point to try new areas of Japan. In and out of Osaka.
@@williamwong7969 Busy schedule mate. Kurashiki is a great spot. Hopefully Aso is in your itinerary, fantastic place. Was thinking if you are, then we can maybe meet up.
@@journeywiththejongs yea always on the move 😂 only drove by Aso. Did stop in Kurokawa Onsen based on your feed, it was 👍. Yea would've been good to catch up, but no Tokyo planned this time. Perth it is!
Hey thanks for following and watching the video. I was going to add that in the "Last Day" video. 😃 Since you asked, the host is Brad. Absolutely recommend this place. This is his AirBnB listing. www.airbnb.com/rooms/972095119370840179?adults=1&children=0&enable_m3_private_room=true&infants=0&pets=0&check_in=2024-01-27&check_out=2024-02-01&source_impression_id=p3_1699829941_uyF0qjsTDnJCcb1y&previous_page_section_name=1000&federated_search_id=a137166b-8a0c-491b-971c-233590336cd8
Hi, one of the viewers told me the link i provided did not work so I have fixed it for you below too. It should work now so I hope you check it out. Apologies. - Alvin
Your travel vlog always feels like a mini vacation for me! Your passion for exploration is so contagious. Just curious, have you checked out the new v4 Bento Bag and the Ikigai Backpack by NomadLane? They're generating quite a buzz and could be your perfect travel companions.
Thanks for watching and your suggestion. No we have not heard about the Bento bag. I will pass it to my wife and let her decide if we need one. 😎 Thanks again!
English was the main language back in Australia. In Japan, mainly Japanese. Mandarin is the least used. But when we were in Malaysia before Japan, we used a bit more Mandarin. So environment plays a huge factor.
Taiwanese are, as you figured out, not typically very good at the "wok hey" technique. It's good you still managed to find some decent lunch anyways! Cheers, Guy
I wonder why? Maybe they can use some special training from us Malaysian to up their “wok hey” technique. 😉Or maybe they just like it the way it is. Thanks for watching and commenting Guy. Cheers Alvin
@@journeywiththejongs In Taiwan, it is I suspect the Fujian versus Cantonese thing. Malaysia has a mix, but in Taiwan it's the former and its "wetter" cooking that mostly dominates, with some exceptions (typically at Hakka places where they know how to stir fry). Great videos btw---I love your approach and attitude!
@@journeywiththejongs There is a great variety (mostly regional) among Hakka communities in Taiwan, including some Hoklo-ized groups in northern Taiwan (this includes our former president Lee Teng-hui) to the Hakka in Hsinchu County / Miaoli County areas (here the focus would be on the town of Beipu), to the Hakka in the south (dispersed in different parts of the region, including the Hakka / Paiwan contact zone, which is where our currently president Tsai Ing-wen comes from) to the community of Meinong in Kaohsiung. From a visitor's perspective, there is a lot to see, but for cooking I personally prefer the Hsinchu County Hakka foods including bantiao and high temperature wok cooking. For next time! Cheers, Guy
@@journeywiththejongs PS When I've had Japanese visitors here in Taiwan, they seem to enjoy the Hakka stir fries perhaps more so than a lot of the Fujian wet foods. The Hakka dishes are typically seasoned more forcefully and go nicely with white rice. Served with good tea, it's very satisfying!
I guess you brough up in Malaysia because you can speak English and mandarin fluently but you spoke with your wife and kids in Japanese. So where do you live right now ?
Hi, yes born and raised in Malaysia! :) Migrated to Australia and studied there. Took time off work last year to travel around Malaysia and Japan so now temporarily leaving in Japan.
I understand Japan is cleaner but I don’t think it’s that bad. I’ve seen worse in Malaysia. Also its the original/authentic market culture so we get to experience it. 🤓
