The former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has died.
He served as the seventh UN secretary-general, from 1997 to 2006 and was the first to rise to the top of the United Nations from within the ranks of organization's staff.
He received the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with the United Nations.
Al Jazeera's Diplomatic Editor James Bays looks at his life and legacy.
