The Basilica's Knights Tower is the second-tallest building in Washington, D.C. - surpassed only by the Washington Monument!
Knights Tower pierces the skies at an impressive 329 feet.
It is also home to the Basilica’s 56-bell carillon, which has rung out during pivotal moments in the life of America’s Catholic Church.
The 56 bells of the carillon cover a range of two octaves and vary in weight from 21 lbs. to 7200 lbs. Altogether, they weigh 37,150 pounds!
On the largest bell, the Mary Bell, the following text is written:
Mary is my name.
Mary is my sound.
Beloved Mother
Queen of Heaven and Earth
Queen of this dear land
for knights to God and country bound
and all who hear my voice
I sing the praises of God.

Music on the Carillon The bells from the Knight’s Tower call the faithful to prayer and announce significant events in the life of the Church. The Basilica’s campanile houses a 56-bell carillon, a gift of the Knights of Columbus. The bells are rung each hour, prior to Mass, and at the Angelus. Visitors can also listen to carillon recitals each Sunday at 2:30 pm while walking around the grounds of the Basilica.

I love listening to the ringing of bells. I read that the Basilica also houses the largest collection of contemporary ecclesiastical art on earth. And the Basilica is one of the ten largest churches in the world. I've never been here. Thank you for the video 😍

It is a place of pilgrimage, not simply a local parish church. Majestic Basilica. When you walk through a series of massive domes, they seem to pull you inside. You can take a tour of the Basilica to learn the history of the Shrine, the architecture, and the sacred artwork.
