The Grand Ole Opry began at the Ryman Auditorium which is called “The Mother Church of Country Music” because it was originally built as a real church tabernacle. The Opry was located at the Ryman from 1943 until 1974 when the new Opry was built.

I learned that grits are actually a distinctly Scottish American food. When the Scottish (and Scots-Irish) arrived in the 17th and 18th century, they no longer had easy access to one of their staples - oats to make oat mush, which was a primary food source. They did have easy access to corn, so they started preparing corn in the same way they prepared oats - thus creating grits! Fascinating, huh? (Source: David Hackett Fischer, Albion's Seed)

Yeah, the Scotch-Irish settled in North Carolina by way of Pennsylvania..but that NC area became Tennessee. My family came from Scotland in early 1700's fought in the war for Independence at King's Mountain. Rich History.

I'm so glad you liked it here and got to visit places other than Broadway. I have always loved Centennial Park and my son had his prom inside The Parthenon. My prom was at the Opryland Hotel. I graduated from high school at the Grand Old Opry. Back then, there was a theme park there instead of the mall, so after we graduated, we had the theme path to ourselves until midnight.

NASHVILLE!!!! I have been researching my family for awhile and about a month ago I found out that my 3 times great grandfather married a woman named Agatha Nash. Her grandfather was a revolutionary war general that moved his family to Tennessee. He was so well thought of and helped with the building of his new community that they named the town after him. Nashville Tennessee. So I'm like a 7 time great granddaughter. I'm hoping to go one day.

It’s actually been a cool spring and summer in TN. It’s normally much hotter by now. Welcome to the Volunteer state! Nashville isn’t necessarily representative of the rest of the state but glad you could come. Kind of a caricature of the state but still fun. Hope you enjoyed. I think Tennessee is a great place to live. Like everywhere in the US, there’s a wealth disparity and highs and lows, but for the most part, TN has a friendly culture, lots of beautiful countryside, and a surprisingly good combo of job opportunities and cost of living. We’re growing quite a bit from out of state transplants who have figured out that it’s a great place to raise a family.

Soda shoppes are a relic of the 1950s. Those that still have this name made a transition into diners or little counter service places. They used to be places that served seltzer along with tons of flavorings honestly it’s where the egg cream (no actual egg in it just it froths like eggs and looks like whipped egg whites) and the lime Ricky come from. Those that made the transition into diners are basically little sandwich places and you can get those fun drinks on the side. Also known as Soda jerks as the guy behind the counter would jerk the lever into position to control the pressure. It wasn’t easy. Those levers were hard as a rock from rust and carbon dioxide gas. These pretty much disappeared by the 1960s. Although many survive as little lunch places that people pop into for a bite from work.
@yourcoloradofriend9744
@yourcoloradofriend9744 Год назад
Soda shops also originated from drug stores in the late 1800s. Drug stores had syrups and seltzer water to make various elixirs and drugs more palatable. They further monetized their soda machines by inventing various drinks to sell at their drug store counters. You can still see a lot of these old drug store soda fountains around the country!
@sheilaathay2034

Drug stores or Pharmacies were the normal place to get a soda in the old days. They always had a bar with stools. Ice cream soon became a must for the soda shop.

Sadly,like most vital bugs, and incests, they're slowly dying away due to pesticides being used. -- The good news is, I have taken notice that their population is increasing in the past 5 years.

The hat looked good but you might find a good deal on a genuine Stetson cowboy hat on Broadway and they have a pretty good deal regularly on cowboy boots as well. I see you guys found the "Woo Girls" everybody runs into them and yup they're usually on the party vehicles. hahaha The Ryman started out as a church before it became an auditorium and the long time original home of The Grand Ole Opry. The floor center stage where many stars have stood to perform was cut out and placed in the current Grand Ole Opry but to many stars, the Ryman Auditorium is still revered. Also be sure if you're into hockey to visit the gift shop at the Bridgestone Arena and get some nice NHL Nashville Predators gear. It's a new team compared to some but we sure are proud of them. Think of grits as a form of corn porridge. Because that’s exactly what it is. It’s like the Italian polenta just not as hard. Some cheese and salt help. Never put sugar on the grits as it ruins the taste. Northerners try to put sugar on grits and they get told off real fast. Also a little butter helps.
@buddystewart2020
@buddystewart2020 Год назад
If they're made right, some salt, pepper and butter, and your good to go. Grits, like polenta, are made from dried corn that has been stone-ground. When cooked slowly in water, grits release their starch and make a creamy porridge. I like cheese grits a lot, I had some that was made with Gouda cheese that was outstanding.

I was 13 at the time and hadn't been to California yet..when i went I get it now. We played ball in 113 degrees and it was not as hot as 85 here. Glad you went to the Nashville Grand Hotel there. It's open to the public. You don't have to be staying there to go in. I went there in the 90s when they were just starting to enclose it in and build if like it is now. It used to be just all separate buildings, but when the Opryland Theme Park closed in the 90s, they decided to transform the hotel into the attraction. So there was all kinds of construction going on when i was there. A family from my hometown actually owned that whole company there. Did you see the River Ride in there? You can take a little boat thing around the indoor river. You might not have gone to that section of the hotel from the footage you had here.

lol this is another thing that reminds me of Pulp Fiction, the scene where they're in the 50s diner. The woman (the wife of a crime boss) orders a $5 milkshake and John Travolta's character (who is supposed to be escorting/protecting her for the night) is like "did you really just order a $5 milkshake?? they don't add rum or anything like that??". And then they get the milkshake and he insists on trying it, and when he takes a couple sips he slams his hand down on the table and says "Godd*** that is a f***ing good milkshake! I don't know if it's worth $5, but it's pretty f***ing good!" lmao 🙂😂🤣 Movie came out my senior year of high school, 1996. I loved it 🙂 action, drama, comedy, something for everybody 🙂

20C is not hot to me but I live in Florida😂. That's like 68°F. I would be wearing a hoodie. The humidity makes it feel slightly warmer but it doesn't vhange the temp feeling all that much. June, July and August are the months to avoid. Right now in Florida it's like walking into a convection oven that's boiling a pot of water.

Like most places, 3 days isn't long enough to really find out what Nashville is really like. Downtown isn't representative.
