I spent most of my day Sunday reading The Overmountain Men by Pat Alderman. I didn't turn the TV on that day. I know the story, but I had not read that book. Today I turned on your channel, and I found this story. I'm guessing our ancestors made that trip to Kings Mountain together. Knowing your history is important, because the sacrifices made for us should not be forgotten or taken for granted.

Thank you, Patera. Sadly our educational system is so inadequate. Thiis is only the second time in just a couple of weeks I learned about the invaluable involvement of the brave men in the South and their quickly organized volunteer forces being instrumental in winning the Revolutionary War. The first was in the book "George Washington, Spymaster by Thomas B. Allen, and now, in much more detail, today from the lips of two wonderful reenactors. The way things are now in our country, it's clear our 2nd amendment is more important than ever.

Many of us came to Ireland, starved by the English landlords who sold our potatoes for huge profit. @1800 my great grandmother saved to send many of her 8 children to Virginia or Canada to escape to a better world, a better a life under A CONSTITUTION of The Republic. ☘ NEVER FORGET THE DESTITUTE, THE POOR WHO MADE THAT DANGEROUS JOURNEY TO JOIN BROTHERS IN ARMS. - MAKE THE CONSTITUTION GREAT AGAIN

I'm not surprised to see so many posts from people whose ancestors fought at Kings Mountain and other places during the American Revolution. People who know about their past and the struggles their ancestors passed through have a special appreciation for this great country we inherited. It's not difficult to understand why so many of us are disgusted by the worldwide movement to destroy pride in our nation and its history. And to replace the freedom our ancestors sacrificed for with a government that wants to oppress and micro-manage every part of our life.

They came through my hometown of Adamsville, NC (Now Jonesville,) and men from there joined with all the others to journey to Kings Mountian. I now live about 25 minutes from Elizabethton, TN high up in the mountians, on land my wife's ancestors settled in the early 1700s. They were Scotts/Irish, from one of the clans that fought against the English. The McIntosh Clan.
