If you are interested to make an enquiry about this apartment kindly contact Brian@briankent.joburg The Anstey's Building in the city center was the highest in the nation when its doors were first opened in 1937. Emley & Williamson, the architects behind some of Johannesburg's most notable structures, including Central Block at Wits, were in charge of its design. But like most historic structures, it deteriorated with time and was slated for removal in 1989. At that point, the Provincial Heritage Trust intervened and saw to it that numerous historic fixtures were restored. A provincial heritage site, it is now. Tenants (artists, journalists, businesspeople, and some adorable gogos), guided by heritage architect Brian McKechnie, now call it home after some interior polishing and painting. The 25-story structure has four floors of commercial space and an additional 21 floors of sectional housing.
Are you sure you're a white South African? I ask this because your optimism and positivity about the country is so unusual for a white SAn, it's breath of fresh air. Keep up the good work! We may face gloomy times but there are still positives about this country, thanks for showcasing them
Wow. Stunning. I've known of this building since a child Just a note... I've made it a policy to never ever rent from an owner that decided to live over seas but still chooses to make money here... I only support local economy
A lot of buildings which are neglected is because their owners are overseas and some owners their whereabouts are unknown so the government is not able to take over a building unless they locate the owner first or show proof they have made serious attempts to locate the owner.
David, thank you for always portraying the positive side of South Africa in general. It's true that we are enemy of our self. Some of the people who speak ill about Joburg have never been there. Michael is very fit. I always use stairs in tall buildings, just to keep fit.
Michael’s apartment is incredible. This is why I love your channel so much Dave, you show what Joburg is really about. I also agree with what you said at the end, Joburgers are bad at selling this city. There’s more to see in Joburg than just SOWETO and Sandton, there’s a lot of luxury and beautiful historical architecture that we don’t care to sell. Also, can I suggest that you book a tour in a house called “Northwards Mansion” in Parktown, it’s another overlooked Johannesburg site with interesting history.
Majority of those in Power have no Clue What A Historical Architecture Jewel JO'BURG City is!! It is Far Expressive with Organic Character than These New Glass and Steel Buildings. Those Who Knows Were Shoved Aside, Like everything Else in South Africa👌🏼👌🏼👍🏿👍🏿. Thanks Dave as Always
Security Reasons and Preservation!! AS you are AWARE the AFRICAN Shit Flies are already Soaking up the Sky and sniffing Around to Lay their Filthy Slum Eggs .
