Watching from Australia, this is one of South African success stories & suburb. Last time I was in Protea Glen was in 1996 . But was only small houses, now the suburb looks pretty, big houses, lots of double storey houses & big gets, beautiful front yards, everything is perfect & well presented. Thanks for this incredible Vlog of Protea Glen.

The attention to every detail when cleaning is what sets South Africans apart. South Africans are very clean. It has always been our culture to sweep you front and backyard (ibala) and clean your stoep as soon as the sun came up. It was a disgrace to have a dirty pavement, front yard and stoep. In Meadowlands in the 80's the people would go as far as polishing the brass handles on their windows, polish and buff the stoep with old stockings until it shines. The windows and windowsill were cleaned daily too. And that was just on the outside. When you stepped into the kitchen of that four-roomed house, the coal stove and chimney were gleaming and so too were the aluminium Hart pots resting on the canopy. Our people are different and this cannot be downplayed.

And this is typically how a regular township looks like in South Africa. Soweto looks like my hood in Kzn.

Those who always say Soweto is a Slum they need to watch this.

Protea glen is too big, I wish ext 7, 8, 9, 10 be covered next time where you will see 5 double store houses in just one short street, ask sweet braai street not far from BASA combined school. The ext are not far from n12 highway

It would be interesting to find apartheid-era footage from pre-1994 Soweto and compare it with the 2024 democracy era to assess the progress that has been made.
