Thanks for the shoutout. :) Glad you tried the screens. I have to mention: Now that it’s been a few months, your plants seem so much happier in the new conservatory! Well done!

Thank you for reiterating the importance of not gate-keeping! There was a guy, when I started the hobby, who made a post about his set up on lighting and overwintering his plants. I was so new to it at that point I didn't know what to do, so I asked him. I was met with dismay and snobbery from him. Long story short, he kept trying to make up excuses on why he couldn't tell me and kept irking me on even after I told him I get it, so I ended up just blocking him. Be mindful he wasn't a seller, but just a hobbyist so there wasn't any trade secrets. That annoyed me quite a bit and gave me a bad taste for my first time being in the hobby.

I'm an underwatere and a lazy plantmom🙈 and I use very chunky soil and have 150 houseplants in my apartment and where I live summers are very hot and very dry. so my plants always stayed too thirsry and never did well in warmer months. this year I moved my thirstier plants to either self watering pots or no drainage, clear pots and they're thriving.I never thought no drainage pots can make my plants so much happy. I also started to cover back of my moss poles with clear plastic sheets and that was a game changer for me too

Just came across this vid from a few months ago. Thanks for this content, Memo. Being in a tropical country, it’s pretty much summer all year long, except for the rainy season and I’m saving these hacks for reference.

Good grief you made me feel not so crazy. I bought a large oscillating fan for my plants. My instincts said there’s wind outside and fans at the Botanical Gardens I visit, there should be air moving inside. You confirmed it, thank you.

Wow--nicely done. I'll add a minor comment. I recently cleaned my decades-old Schefflera with neem oil, and forgot to add my Dr Bronner's castile soap (peppermint scent). Holy Moses I cannot believe how much of the neem stench is neutralized with the soap. And the stink doesn't dissipate quickly ... at all. As for knocking over a plant while trying to swat flies: no never. As for my cats knocking over plants while trying to swat flies, I have stories. 💚🪴 *I'll also add that Wildroot Organic makes a powder mycorrhizal that can be diluted and watered into one's plant, for those who have already repotted and want to use this. I'm terribly impressed with the results.

As for my plant collection, i let Darwinism rule😄 I take care of them as best as i can without doing fancy things like Grow light, humidifier... and who is doing well can stay. Bevor a purchase i do my research about the plant to make sure that it would not need the extra Spa treatment i am not willing to provide. So far it is going well.

You should look in to the sulphur hot box for pests. I started using it since last October and is having great results for pests. And plants that didn't grow for me at all in 2 years started growing after a week of use. Best example, I had a hoya clemensiorum that didn't grow at all for 2 years, not a leaf, and after the hot box treatment started to grow and she is huge now.❤

One thing you mentioned that I only noticed last week is the heat affecting my plants. They’re in shaded areas, but when the “feel like” temp is 113 degrees F, even the most tropical plant starts to wilt. Always love your videos. Thanks Memo!

I ended up putting an overhead fan installed in my pseudo greenhouse to help with air flow. Still, Summers where I live are so humid, that after several days of rain I will still find black mold spots on a few leaves. (Just because it's humid without rain.)...Despite the fact that fan stays on all the time, and the greenhouse is open with sheer panels of fabric to promote shade and airflow. Gotta love the south in summer. Something else that I've noticed is that there's a huge difference in temperature on the floor of the greenhouse versus at the top of the greenhouse because heat rises of course. So when the temperature gets above 90°F, I put the plants on the floor where it's closer to 80°F

Great and inspirational tips & cool planty shirt as always :-) Pon & self-watering reservoirs help me a lot. Right now during a heat wave without rain we have 45 % humidity at daytime and 60 % at night inside - I used to get stressed about it to be too low (usually we get 60 % the whole year round, sometimes higher), but since no plant seem to be bothered at all (even my calatheas) and grow like mad, I eventually gave up and let it be :-D

I have got to agree about the beneficial pest. I struggles and used every spray I could get my hands on NOTHING worked. I ordered ladybugs and months later not a pest in sight. Literally not even fungus gnats. Moving forward I'm releasing ladybugs a bit annually.

hi friend! I did not know about the pollen screens, this seems like a really worthwhile investment, the fan that blows water droplets I will keep in the back of my mind for when my collection gets much bigger though. I do have a question about sunlight, norway currently has the sun set around midnight, and rise around 3am, is the ambient sunlight fine or should I put up curtains? it does go around the entire house, so it does not shine on the same window all day. this is my first year with a lot of plants, winter scares me
@Houseplantygoodness
@Houseplantygoodness Год назад
Hello friend! Pollen screens can indeed be a great investment. As for the sunlight, as long as your plants aren't getting too much direct sun and are showing no signs of stress, the ambient sunlight should be fine. Remember, every plant is different, so observe and adjust accordingly. And don't worry about the winter - we'll tackle it when it comes! Stay tuned for more tips.☀️🌿🙂

Thank you for the tips! I have had luck with foliar feeding all my plants. I use my regular rain water and weak miracle grow liquid fertilizer mix in my sprayer and spray the leaves at least once a week. I have a bloom booster for Hoya. I see more growth/blooms and it’s easy! I try to use rain water when I can bc it’s already ph balanced for nutrient up take. Great video idea.

In my humble opinion, predatory mites are a total (and pretty big) waste of money. All they really do is go after the smallest larvae and totally ignore the bigger larvae/adults. So all it really does is reduce the pest outbreak a little. And they cost a lot. For like 50 packs I pay ~30€ and if I gotta order them every 2-3 months, it very quickly adds up. Versus chemicals... bought a 100ml bottle for ~12€ or so and it's been with me for over a year now (and still about 70% full). Plus, every time I've had thrips since (twice), I only ever sprayed the plants that were infested plus a few around them from the front and back (just once!) and they were 100% gone for good. Coudln't even find a single larvae.
@you_gullible_fucc
@you_gullible_fucc Год назад
I agree. Granted you can't be sure that any pesticide would eradicate pests forever, but everyone who I've seen use predatory insects never really eradicated their pest outbreaks from predatory insects alone. It also doesn't help their credibility when they've gotten it as a sponsored product or a gift for them to try, not talking about Memo though because I can't remember if he used it because of a sponsorship.
@Houseplantygoodness

@elgallo1606 Hey there, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I can see where you're coming from - predatory mites might not always offer a complete solution and they can indeed be a bit pricey. But they are an option for those who prefer more natural, non-chemical methods. However, it's fantastic that you've found a chemical that works for you and has been so cost-effective!😊💰 The important thing is we find what works best for our own unique plant care situations.🌱💚 @you_gullible_fucc I appreciate your input! Yes, it's true that results can vary greatly with predatory insects and chemicals alike. Everyone's plant care situation is unique, and what works for one may not work for another. But we all learn from each other's experiences, right? I believe in trying different methods and seeing what works best for each individual. Thanks for joining the conversation! 🙌🌿

And I guess I should have asked is, can you use that can that blows moisture inside of your house? I know you said you are using it in your conservatory (please forgive my ignorance) but I don't know if that is attached to your house. Or what I mean is, will it cause my humidity level in my house to be too high if is in a large room (I know that is relative, but I have three large rooms but most people's standards as far as living, family rooms, and bedrooms

I have Photo+ here, and I want to use it, but I'm not sure how my predatory mites will react to it. I don't want to harm them, so I'm never using it. I also didn't find anything on this topic on the internet. Do you have experience with this? Do the predatory mites survive?

I totally read the title wrong. I thought it said "hardiest" Maranta does okay with me. Calatheas like rattle snake and orbifolia arent as finicky but they are still sensitive to dry air and watering. They dont like to stay wet but they must stay moist. Alocasias go nuts in my procession. They do get spider mites if I slack on my preventatives but minimal damage. My alocasias are busting out right now... almost anxiety inducing growth. They aren't going to sleep this winter. Ivy are just a big fat NO! Just dont!!! I have one staghorn fern that lives in my tent ok. Succulents just don't agree with me. I cant do tradescantia and I'm trying. I do want an antherium. I have never tried them and don't like the ones with the lil flower. Crotons can't live inside my house either. They love the Texas humidity and grow very well outside. I just don't have the juice for some plants and I've made my peace, because I'm brilliant at what I'm good at.
