FDNY Rescue Company 5 is a 2019 Ferrara Heavy Rescue Truck. There is a total of 5 Heavy Rescues throughout New York City, one per boroughs. Rescue Companies respond to all major incidents throughout the City. A Rescue is assigned to all structure fires or when a 10-75 (Emergency) Signal is given. They also respond to High Rise 10-76 & 10-77 Signals. They are assigned to all minor and major matrix assignments from scaffolding collapses, vehicle into structures, confined space, subway emergencies, train derailments, Entrapments, person under the train, building collapses, high angel rescues, they are also SCUBA trained and are the first divers to go into the water. All Rescue members are trained and qualified in 40 Hours of Collapse Rescue Training, 40 Hours of Confined Space Training, 40 Hours of Trench Rescue Training, 80 Hours of Hi-Angle Rescue Training, 100 Hours of SCUBA Training, 80 Hours of Rescue Technician Level I & II and are all Hazmat Technician Level II Certified.
Rescue Companies have a "Truck" Response Area that they respond to and a Rescue Response Area. The Truck Response area is if they arrive on scene before the first due ladder. They will respond to almost everything mainly any phone alarms in that first due truck area.
Depending on the area each rescue carries a little more then others. Rescue 1 carries more ropes for the tall buildings where Rescue 5 doesn't have as many but all rescues have the ability to work in any area of the city. Rescue 5 doesn't carry the zodiac boat as they are quartered with Tactical Support Unit 2. All other rescues have them on the truck. All Rescues have a 2nd Piece being the Collapse Rescues that have extra supplies. The Tactical Support Units, Squad Companies and SOC Support Ladders all support the Rescue Companies with extra Equipment.
Rescue Companies have 15, 30, 45 and 60 minute Cylinders. They have Rigging Gear, Torches, Cutting systems, generators, subway equipment, all different kinds of saws, all kinds of jacks, pavement breakers, all truck company tools, hazmat metering,
Rescue Company Coverage Areas
Rescue 1 - Manhattan
The Battery to 125th Street on West Side and 116th on the East Side
Truck Response Area Roughly 34th Street on the West Side to about 72nd Street on the West Side.
Rescue 2 - Brooklyn
All of Division 15 most of Division 11 and a portion of Division 8
Truck Response Area is south past E283 to about Linden Blvd North a little past Engine 233 east to Engine 231 and west to Engine 234.
Rescue 3 - Bronx
All of Da Bronx and Manhattan North of 125 on the West Side and 116 on the East Side
Truck Response Area is North to Engine 48, South of Engine 50 West to Engine 42 and East to Bronx River.
Rescue 4 - Queens
All of Queens with a small area in Division 11 in Brooklyn
Truck Response Area basically almost all of Division 14
Rescue 5 - Staten Island
All of Staten Island Portion of Brooklyn in Division 8 a little north of Engine 241, south of Engine 247 and Engine 330, West of Engine 254 and Engine 246 and East in Coney Island of Engine 245.
Truck Response Area is the North Shore of Staten Island.
