I think this may be the most unusual, imaginative and successful thrift flip I have seen! I'm in love with the couture look of the pink binding inside and I'll be looking out for jumpsuits to make into pants, which I find so much more useful for daily wear. As far as wearing the pants every day goes...just remember, it's the same number of wears whether stretched out over a decade or consolidated into a year.
I love the idea of stitching the grid on. What a great way of being able to make your own custom fabric. And the possibilities in size and color, you could even do a kind of plaid look. Thank you for the inspiration. They look amazing.
Aw, if they are that comfortable, you should absolutely wear them everyday! It's the best way to enjoy your hard work. My dad only wore "nice" clothes all through his life because he felt the most comfortable in his slacks vs his jeans. It's nice to look nice everyday
Just found your channel! I’m obsessed! I’m a sewist and thrifter, but I’ve never done a thrift flip before. Usually I just make tiny changes to my thrifted clothes, but I have always WANTED to do something like this. You’re an inspiration! Keep it up!!!
That pot was definitely too small 😂 I have a white enamel pot, but I would be afraid that the dye would discolor it? I think I have to do more research...thanks for the tips!
I must say, I really really really deeply love and appreciate your attention to detail and dedication to fixing your mistakes. Even when you want to press forward. I would be really interested in knowing the total number of hours that your makes take in future videos because I really want to encourage myself to be patient and not cut quarters even if it takes me months and months because I only have a few hours per week.
This flip is amazing! And yes no shame on tutorials, I love them & use them a lot to fill in any gaps in pattern drafting or sewing…I usually have to watch a few to fit specific needs but I appreciate them all!
Have just stumbled onto your videos and I’ve really enjoyed them. The natural fabrics you love have a higher frequency [I imagine because they come from something living] and even assist in promoting better health - which grabs my interest as well. Thanks for the video!
You should be proud of yourself for achieving this project. It looks very comfortable and flatering. I agree, details are important. It would be great to have a pattern to replicate them!
Beautiful - the videography, the finished garment, and you, too. 😊 I admire your creative vision as well as the patience and tenacity to see this project through. Well done!
What a fabulous job!! My jaw dropped when you explained that you would be sewing the grid pattern onto the fabric. Genius! You should definitely duplicate the pattern so you can make more. I subscribed a couple weeks ago and am happy to be here
Haha thank you! My machine is definitely not vintage...it was made in 2021 😂 I brought the stitch length down to 1.5 so that it wouldn't be so obvious that it was sewn on. I would LOVE to restore a truly vintage treadle sewing machine...one day!
Great process and storytelling. A creative renewal, they went from ok to wonderful. Even the original texture had been bumped up to another level as it's been incorporated in by your choice color palette and stitching... It's got dimensionality now! Keep sharing... as you are...
Beautiful job. Wear them to your hearts content! The fabric quality is excellent and the fit is perfect. So why not enjoy them as much as possible. With your creativity, you can fix it if it needs mending. Great job.
The fabric dying was great! I have a stack of clothes I want to dye navy blue (painting the dye on is TOTALLY something I would have done, too). So impressed with with this project. Your videos are real, authentic, to the point, and short in duration. I'm a subscriber now. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the kind words!! 🤗 I hope your dyeing projects go well - I've dyed my clothes navy several times now and I'm always delighted with the result. And thank you for subscribing, I'm glad you're here! 🌷
I love thrifting content and natural fibers, so I'm subscribed and excited for what's to come! Lots of love from Denmark. Also, and I hope you're not sick of hearing this, but you're giving major Zooey Deschanel vibes in the best way ❤
I recommend "Catherine Sews" RU-vid channel. She's a thrift-flipper and a Fashion & Textile HS teacher. So ideas and skills tutorials! Oh, oh, and she shows you how to do a "knockoff"!! How to take an existing garment and use it to make a pattern for future garments.
Thank you for the recommendation, I'll definitely check out her channel! I have used the "knockoff" method myself, actually, on some older projects! I might end up doing it for these pants, because I am in love with the way they fit and want more of them 😆
Brilliant project! Sewing the grid onto the fabric is genius. I’m planning a similar project to make some Toteme inspired pyjama trousers. Before I had an overlocker, I used the honeycomb stitch to finish my seams. 🐝
That sort of diagonal grid stitch you used is a feather stitch used for stretchy fabrics. I learnt about it recently after buy in a machine from 1975 and reading the old manual
So happy to find you! I love natural fabrics, thrifting and up-cycling. My seamstress grandmother would take all store bought dresses apart and resew them😂. I hope to aquire some of her skills. Wear them as much as possible. If you gain weight they probably won't fit. TFS
Omg. It's something I'd have tried and given up halfway. Grt job. I love this project it was so creative. I also love a very dark rich navy blue and RL tends to carry that signature color scheme that I find so regal and yet casual, very low key high end elegant. Fantastic job! You got a new sub ❤🎉
I really LOVE these and thank you for detailing your process. Do you think you’d ever copy these to make a master pattern so you can replicate the amazing fit and not have to reserve this style of pants for occasional wear…then make multiples of them whenever you find suitable fabric & feel like having another pair? It’d be great if you made a video of this process. Love all your videos so far. Very encouraging to this sewist and upcycler
Yes, a couple people have suggested this and I think it’s a great idea! I will definitely make a video about the process if I end up doing this. I would love to have a full length pair that is less decorated and more utilitarian! Thanks so much for being here! ✨

Amazing concept! Blows my mind, And great video! I saw a couple of the other videos and I can only imagine how nerve wracking it must be to do RU-vid videos. You look like you’re finding your feet and feeling more comfortable. Kudos to you! 😊
Now I have watched all of your back catalogue! I love your energy and your projects! I so am subscribing, please keep posting! And you know about the trousers being too nice to wear all of the time... what if you could just wear them whenever you want to? Because every day deserves to be great and special? And you can always make more great pants, because of how talented you are! I'll leave you with that to consider. Best of luck with the channel!
Oh my gosh, thank you so much for being here!! 🌷✨ I think you’re right about the pants…every day is special and deserves to be treated as such. Thanks for the reminder 🌸
Perhaps in a future video! I have to tweak the design a little bit because it's gaping at the back. That shirt was another thrift flip, it's 100% silk! Thanks for the compliment 🤗
It’s unbelievable that you are only four videos in and your channel, editing whatever is amazing! Please keep the content coming! I collected nearly 300 pairs of blue jeans a few years ago and I am still hanging onto them. Any ideas what to do with them? oh and I have about 250 to 300 for inch cashmere squares that were cut from garments. Thank you love your channel!
Haha thank you so much! I have a degree in film so I had experience with editing before coming to RU-vid - it is so much fun! As far as the denim goes - here is my Pinterest board of ideas I’ve collected 🤗 pin.it/1AXHVcOFq
You did an excellent job on this thrift flip. I agree that the inside finishing details make the garment extra special. Looking forward to seeing what you do next.
Great work! Really professional. I was thinking to stitch a windowpane pattern since I couldn't find the exact fabric I liked. Thank you for sharing the details.
re: your first video. Build Mochi a catio. It’s what I did so I don’t have to worry and my cladder of cats can safely venture out! Love you detail oriented designs!
Yes, I was looking into catios before I left! It was my boyfriend’s house and he didn’t want to make any drastic changes since he was going to be moving soon and selling the house. Back in the mountains now and Mochi has free access to the outdoors and seems happier 😊
New subscribe here 👋...you had me @thrift...😅. Turned out so beautiful. I enjoy your charming witty personality 😊. I'm slowly but surely turning my wardrob to be mostly linen and natural fibers and flips or made by me items. 🌻
You should use these pants as a pattern so you can make another pair in a different fabric since you love the fit so much but are worried to wear them out too fast!
Just no. Totally impractical to make a pair of trousers that are casual wear, but unable to wear them casually as too worried about wearing them out too soon !!! They would not sustain regular dog walks and playing with children every day....too scared to ruin them, therefore quite useless!! Too casual to wear as formal in any way, but too casual to wear as casual as they will get worn out and ruined, and had so much effort put into them rendering them absolutely useless !!!!
