If there is a local glass blower or even someone with a wet saw. You could cut down the glass to right under the break and make a candle holder. That’s what I did when a family piece broke.

One more thing, and i hope you don't take offense, but the phrase, 'Unsuitable boyfriend' is just so beautifully proper and British (at least it sounds as such--I'm an American), i just LOVE it. ❤️

Your broken glass and old pan remind me of photos my mother had taken of treasured things that had broken and items that had outlived their usefulness. Before she got rid of them, she would take a photo and write her memories of the item on the back of it. Years later, as I sorted her belongings, I came across those photos and learned some new things about Mom and enjoyed my own memories of items from my youth I’d since forgotten.

Just before watching your video I was thinking about the mug I broke this morning. It was a Garfield the Cat mug that I think came from McDonald’s, a long time ago. Probably 25-30 years old. I was very sad. I feel your pain.

It’s possible to salvage your beer mug. If you can find someone who works with glass, they maybe able to cut off the broken area, and create a new lip lower down, I’ve seen people do that with old bottles to make a glass out of them. Since it has so many memories, you might want to give that a try

Hi Ali! I have an idea for your broken glass! In the past when mugs have broken that I loved I would save them and use them as planters. Fill it with soil and add a seasonal flower or plant! That way you can still enjoy it on display somewhere. I hope that helps 😊 My 12-year-old daughter Lucy just started watching with me this week and wanted to say hi and get a shout out from Phoebe! LOL I so enjoy watching your videos, it really gives me inspiration for my home and life, so thank you! Congrats to Lilia, she will absolutely love doing this role, I just know it! All the best! I thought the same thing about preserving the mug. I wondered if a glass cutter couldn’t cut off the jagged parts. Happy early birthday to you and my sister, Monique on the 22nd. She also watches. Maybe Ali will share your names on air. 🤞🏼🤞🏼💜🎂

I had a gold ring I wore for years it had belonged to my great grand father. Last year while picking up my grandson from the airport, it fell off my finger and I dandy notice until I got home. I felt like Old Papa was ready for someone else to have it, who needed it more.(or at least would take care of it better) That's how I dealt with it, sounds like your idea is similar, but it is hard.

It must be the alignment of the planets or something as I’ve had a good time breaking things lately. I broke a lovely bowl yesterday and a special plate today, then our beloved alarm clock that wakes us by playing a CD of our choice broke. I bought it from the Middle of Lidl about twenty years ago, irreplaceable.

So sorry for your broken glass. I totally get the need to hang on to objects that are loaded with memories. I still have an ashtray shaped like a football stadium that I bought at age 17 on a trip to the Toscana. I quit smoking at least 10 years ago but every time I do a cleanup I can't bring myself to give it away. The good thing is that we never stop making memories so there will always be a next "beer glass" or "stadium-shaped ashtray" 😄

It is definitely ok to mourn the loss of an old friend, even if is a 'stolen' beer glass. You are right, it is the memories attached to the object. I have said goodbye to beloved objects.

I am sorry for your broken glass! If you haven't recycled it already, you could see if there is a glass shop that would be able to cut a new rim and smooth it out. Depending on the type of glass it is this should be possible.

Sad you lost your glass. It’s been weird weather today. Pouring with rain and such a warm wind! I want a proper Autumn. One of the reasons I hate people who have to have Christmas from September, they’re cutting short the most glorious season of the year!!

I always find it sad when an everday object with memories tied to it reaches the end of it's life. That bag prize is just lovely. Down here in Aus the weather has been pretty autumnal the past few weeks, I've been enjoying getting a bit more use out of my knit jumpers before it gets to hot

Oh I’m sorry about your glass. I know exactly how you feel, I recently broke a Caithness crystal glass bowl that we received as a wedding present in ‘85 and it has travelled with us without damage for all these years 😢

I remember well my ‘unsuitable boyfriend’ - who was also a forbidden boyfriend. My father drove past him and me chatting on the corner of our street but he didn’t stop; instead, he continued home and waited…….and I walked slowly home, knowing the wrath I would face. My father was a fabulous bloke but he didn’t have to say or do much for me to know how furious he was. 😬

Isn’t autumn the absolute worst? The end of gorgeous, lush, green and warm summer. The end of living in bare feet. On to bare trees, cold weather, grey skies, rain and here in Canada, the potential of snow. Scrapping windows, paying for heat in your home, and dark mornings. Just saying.
