Definitely bold to read the original and then immediately a retelling haha it's so hard not to compare a lot when you do that 🍄 Beautiful spreads though, they all look so pretty!
As I was watching I was thinking it was quite brave of you to read the original, love it so much and then tackle the retelling soon after! I would have been so afraid that one would have felt like a letdown compared to the other 😅 🍄
Was the huse and phoenix meant to evoke the Baba Yaga hut and Firebird? Your explanation of the book really inspired me to put it on my to read list. Although I'm a bit tired of reading western mythology based fantasy books... 🍄
🍄💀 Remarkable employment. I stand inclined towards, The Winter of the Witch. It gives birth to true historical events. I loathe, What moves the dead. Three protagonists. 💀🍄 #ReadingJournal 💀🍄
Can I recommend the short story “The Human Chair” by Edogawa Ranpo? He is a Japanese writer and was heavily inspired by Edgar Allan Poe (even his pen name is a japanese version of E.A.Poe’s name).
I would recommend reading The fall of the house of usher and then rereading it if you want to linger more in that atmosphere lol Having read it, I wouldn't really recommend What moves the dead.
