In the black, probably the white, but I've always had a variation of white on basses I have owned. It's very cool that they include both with purchase, especially with it being a nonstandard P/J shape, with a different pickup placement as well.
It's a pity about the neck dive. I always wanted a Les Paul-body P-Bass, so when the original O Bass came to light I was seriosly considering about it... but I could never cope up with neck dive. I've sold basses whose sound I loved just because this issue, and a LP-bodied bass is always gonna suffer from it. Anyway, great review. Thanks a lot for it and for all your videos. You're great!
Back when I started playin' bass, one of the options I considered getting was the original version of the Orange O from '15 Played it in the shop, but the sound wasn't there for me, but this newer model, to me at least, has that extra juice it needed, it sounds absolutely lovely!
I wanted one but the 1st run sold out.I was happy a 2nd run came out and grabbed me an orange one.I'm into it and the P bass pups are unique sounding in a great way, imo.
@WhichBass and all Could someone compare it with standard Squier P or J bass?? I would like to re-start playing bass after 20 years and I was actually lookking for Squier Jazz bass, but I found by accident last piece of 2015 O bass in Orange color in sale for 250€ So I ordered it and now I am waiting for delivery. I never liked “fender” visual, specially that 99% people have the same looking guitars I still have my Czechoslovak Rickenbacker fake - Jolana D-Bass and it is so great bass in mint condition and few times I was already thinking to buy squier but everytime I tried it - it was much worse than my Jolana We played some “smashing pumpkins” style when I was 15, then I didnt touch bass for 20 years. But now I would like to try it again - but already my music taste is more wide than just punk and rock Thanks What is your opinion camparing to Squier??
I have Squier VM Jag (I solo the P pickup) and a Fender Mexican made P Bass. Quality: the build quality of the O Bass is much better than the Squier. The tone knobs on My Squirer Jag fell apart and the input jack had issues. The O Bass is solid! Great fit and finish; on par or slightly better than the Mexican Fender. Playability: The O Bass is my favorite because it has a very thick, wide neck. I love that! The Squier Jag has a thinner neck like a Jazz bass. The Mexican made Fender is somewhere in between. The O Bass neck dives while the Fender and Squier are well balanced.
I have a tobacco Burst Orange bass, it does everything thing a P bass should do with a nice Les Paul Jr body style. I ended up switching its pickup out with a Seymour Duncan quarter pound pickup and I'm very happy with it
Have the original in Sunburst, it's my favorite bass to play, and I just might buy the new one if it's really as improved as people say. It's really comfortable despite the width (I tend to play an Ibanez that has a smaller neck width), and the pickups sound awesome to me. The one thing I hate is the neck dive
Yo Alfie, did you say 1.7mm at the neck? I do like that it has no veloute, looks super smooth and well made. Brazilian Rosewood is on the endangered list Indian Rosewood is more available. Purpleheart or Pau Ferro is a softer/brighter hard wood and well available. Sorry woodworking coming in there. Those heavy tuners must add to the neck dive. Some bass for the buck. Looks cool sounds real nice. The pick playing at the end sounds great...sweet fella!...re...spect.
Thanks Brian! Good to see you in the comments as always. The neck was 1.7 inches not MM which is strange. Very smooth bass, really makes you take your time in a good way. Thanks for sharing the wood working aspects, that's not particularly my strong suit!
I love how this Les Paul bass has Precision pickups!!!!!!! I also like the fact that its passive and not active!!!!! I could play this on big band gigs and jazz combos sessions!
Fat, gnarly, and warm - perfect description of the tone. After playing my O Bass on several gigs, different rehearsal spaces, and different amps, I think there is a fatness and warmth inherent to the O Bass's tone, and a growly (gnarly) midrange.
Thanks Lucy! Always good to see you in the comments! You tell Boston I said "hello!" (Oh god, I was watching "Black Mass" which takes place in your very own Boston. I could not stop with the Bostonian accent for a week!)
@@WhichBass My grandfather grew up in South Boston "southie" and knew whitey Bulger from the neighborhood. And it's pronounced bah stin for your accent class lmao
@@WhichBass indeed, however it has 24 frets on it, ergo it is perfect for the entirety of the G Major suit on bass, transposed from the cello suit by your friend, and mine, Bach, his son was another one that made use of that higher G too; I guess it depends on what you want in a bass...
@@NikkieRoxxx Salfagieto was originally a piano piece, I requies a true note, not a bend, that is one of my "Must Have" list items I struggle to not need.
The body is way too light. I put a high mass bridge on it and it has still more neckdive than my Thunderbird. Almost unplayable to me, but it's an eyecatcher hanging on the wall.
@@WhichBass I could imagine that there are some people who aren't bothered by the neck dive and prefer the smaller body and light weight, but i can't handle the neck feeling heavier than the body.
First video on my feed this morning! Happy to see them making this again! I have been interested in one of these since I discovered them a couple years ago, since then have been a bit hard to pin down. Great review, man!
Ah I was first?! I was a bit worried I was too early to the party! Everyone else seems to be fashionably late! Thanks for the kind words DriverBass! I hope you get your hands on one and take it for a spin. Seize the day!
I believe I have seen you with an ATK before, however I can't remember if it was a 4 or 5 string. How would this neck compare to the ATK? I had an ATK 4 string for a while up until a few years ago and I loved the neck on the ATK 4. Both basses I currently have necks that are either J or in-between a P and a J.
Wow. What an unproductive and rude comment. Seriously. Who on planet earth does that help? Keep your snotty negativity to yourself. We all have to live and we’re all out here doing our best.
