I come from a background of working with VSTs only. I bought a Virus TI2 back in May 2021 and after a couple of months of using it, I've personally come to the conclusion that the sound quality of the Virus is better than any of the VSTs I've used (and I have used many of them). I am very happy with my purchase. I also like having real physical knobs to tweak (I have the TI2 Darkstar). The keybed is also great. The only thing that pissed me off a bit is the price of the TI2 Polar/Darkstar is higher than the price of the TI2 keyboard :/

Thanks for writing 🤗 yeah virus ti have it's magic not doubt. It's rich in harmonics spacially with dedicated DA converter. Was happy to see your channel upload and experience you have. How is the deepmind is it worth it? How it compere to vst and how easy is it to work with is application with daw? Cheers wellcom

​@@SharonMonolockGraziani No worries and thanks for checking out my channel! :) I like the DeepMind 12, it offers a lot and it is affordable. It has a few shortcomings though: 1. It is quite noisy, but maybe this is because it is analog? I don't know for certain since I have very limited experience with analog synthesizers. 2. The VCF resonance is imo a bit too harsh sounding, which is disappointing. 3. DCO 2 only has a square wave, I wished it would have both a saw & square wave. To get 2 saw waves, you have to set the DM12 to unison-2 mode. That will however use 2 voices per key, which means voice stealing is hard to avoid on pad/string sounds. 4. The application I use is a third party VST (it's not made by Behringer). Sadly it doesn't cover the entire synth, the mod matrix for example is missing. Behringer do have their own standalone app (it's not a VST plugin so you can't use it in a DAW unfortunately), but I've not used it myself. Programming on the hardware unit itself is easy though. Despite its shortcomings, it is a good synth for the price. I actually find the DM12 to sound much better than the Virus TI when it comes to classic synth sounds. Analog sounds amazing.

@@SharonMonolockGraziani the challenge is you need the VST plugin to make use of the Virus sequencer and arp and presets. Scrolling manually on the synth through thousands of settings is painful.

had my TI1 keys for yr now ...its absolute beast ..sounds deeper richer full power compared to VSTs....making presets off hardware when playing around , then using plug in aswell just so much modulation possibilities....i love it

especially played in a live setting the Virus is untouchable. Trance, EDM, techno, house the Virus is legendary next to Moog, Oberheim, Prophet and Roland synths.

I would say yes the Virus TI2 is still worth it in 2022 as it does more than most new synths and nothing touches it for trance music! I don't use software and record synths via an audio interface so lack of support on Mac OS is a non issue for me as I use PC and Mac but audio interface.

Got Virus C and Ti Polar.Sold them both. A company with the most famous synthesizer is not allowed to have no technical support and the whole system crashes when connected to the Usb (tested with both Windows and Imac billion times).I agree it has unique sound and color but maybe 2012 was more impressive. Nowdays Vst's doing everything and much easier and of course there are plenty of options from synths with good prices and very respectable sound. Thanks for the nice review and the video! 😊Τhe Access company can sell the brand to someone else who will show more interest.

I can't agree more... This is exactly what I tried to show on the review. It is unique and versatile but not up to date... in future it might be problematic to work with... Its still an iconic synth, that many other vsti manufacturers are imitating... Would be lovely to have good support like other great companies that do not abandoned their costumers. Virus ti was for me a dream for many years... Today after many years it's time for other dreams... your viruses crashed when connected via usb? i feel like i had this issue.. they do have support (attn: others, do not call their number if you dont have free international calling, use email) i resolved mine through a LOT of anxiety/OS reinstalls and zen-like patience. mine was crashing randomly all the time when connected via usb or via midi. eventually that went away when i finally managed to reinstall OS, but afterwards i was mainly left scratching my head on the "how and why would this be necessary?" and yeah their support folks didn't really help much. except for identifying when my unit was manufactured (got mine second hand). My wishful thinking is that they remake these in modern form in a more future proofed way. Because you "can" technically recreate most of the sounds in VSTs or via other synths, but i usually just wanna make random sounds or jam on it for a little bit, as im more "realtime noise maker" setup.

I've honestly never had an issue for my Ti2 over USB aside from the sync being thrown out of time during playback. Just pause and play again and it fixes itself. I do also have a model B and using the mystery islands editor/performer vst has worked well for my needs when I dont feel like having to go over to the physical device. I should also state they do still monitor their support contacts, I got a copy of the original sound diver software from them to have another way to "dive" into the synth via a computer. It works on Windows 10 for the most part, booting it up is a bit iffy but once it loads it does just what you would need the editor to do, as well as a simplified GUI when editing patches. The fact I was able to get support for a nearly 20 year old device was just awesome. It is definitely upsetting the Ti series hasnt had much in terms of updates to match newer software and computers but they do still work to an extent. Hopefully Access and Kemper have some plans to dive deeper into this at some point in the future

Mystery island vst for the virus is outstanding. I use it myself on the TI desktop. Among other benefits, it exposes virtually every control on the virus to midi cc's on each of the 16 channels.

I can make almost any sound I want with whatever synth or close to it. The viper I heard and it comes close... There is other software synths that also can do the same 😉

Guys, there will be a new Virus T3 in the near future. The only problem that there were no updates during the last decade was, because the company is very small and was focusing on their Kemper Profiler. Another problem is the end of life circle of the Motorola 56k family DSP chips, everything was built on. So for the future the whole code has to be rewritten for other DSP chips or even totally rebuilt on a FPGA based system. For all of you who have problems with USB Ti integration, i can only recommend, to use a Thunderbolt port on and you'll have no problems with MIDI and Audio per USB in 24 bit 48 kHz. The only problem is, that there is no support for Mac OS Monterey and Big Sur and Catalina. I am still on Mojave on an Intel Chip. I don't know how it is with Windows 10!?

Hey Christopher, thanks for the info. The rumours about virus ti 3 is been for quite some time now. It will be refreshing to see some development in this area, and see where the company takes this iconic synth. These days they will have lots of competition. I'm not sure about mac but on Windows 10 all work fine with some minor issues. Not sure how it is with windows 11. Let see what future holds. @@SharonMonolockGraziani it is working fine with Windows 11 just bought the ti2 desktop recent. A ti3 would be cool I waited like 3 years for a ti3 and don't think we will see it till the stock of the ti2 is sold. I look forward to it one of the advantages is the vast amount of 20 years of presets available.

The problem with this line of thinking is that other than Kemper throwing out breadcrumbs whenever he's at a trade show, there's no evidence of them thinking about coming back into the space and a tonne of reasons why he would never bother. If a new Virus came out, it would be a day one purchase for me, but I just don't think it's going to happen. Hell, I'm still likely to buy a TI2 this year.

I think the VST alternatives to the virus was Sylenth1 and Albino. My go-to synth has always been Z3TA+, Serum beats it for features but Z3ta has better chance of making usable sounds. Before I got my first DAW set up I had hardware only, and most of it has worn out with faded LCD displays, quiet audio output, and glitchy controls,sibby the time the Virus arrived I wasn't interested even though I liked the sound, I also thought it was overhyped as it has nothing very special. If I need warmth or colour I'll add another plugin if I have to.

@@SharonMonolockGraziani not necessary, and not essential, but hardware still has some benefit (while they haven't been damaged or worn out), that they save computer resources and CPU processing, by having a hardware synth or audio processor. For a live performance especially, controlling a synth as a plugin takes more resources, while synths/channels not being modified during a live performance would best be frozen/bounced down to an audio track.

Not worth it in my honest opinion. It was good 10 years ago. Today, we have multiple variations of synths from multiple companies and they all produce the same sound(Square / Saw / Sine / Wavetable), the only difference is the filtering and FX and how you want to route your OSC's. I would say that analogue filtering / electronics is still number 1, but for the price you pay (eg. Eurorack modules, Oldschool 2nd hand Analogue Synths costing $500 and up), it's more an enthusiast piece of gear. It's honestly up to you if you want to spend an exorbitant amount of money on a single piece of kit if you want 'THAT' specific sound. This is also why Eurorack / Modular synthesis GAS will become a problem in your life. You will never want to use a plugin again. Your car will become a modular vehicle allowing you to insert CV into the aircon, giving you more power in the lower RPM's of your engine. Your coffee will become modular and you will measure each single grain of sugar by it's metric weight to be 100% sure that your coffee ADSR is on par with Astrix. Your life will change in such a way that simple tasks now take 5 times longer, because you need to first patch in various sequencers and filters to produce a perfect result each time. Okay, I lost track a bit there, but hopefully this brings some joy to someone.

Hahaha 😂 you nailed it, I'm not in to modular so I'm saved. More into high analog gear for mastering. But this is another really expensive story. About the ti yes and no it's still great choice if u find good price on second 🖐️ new you have more modern options. Its still sound wonderful and inspiring to work with... And as you where writing fits to easy work flow. Even I sold many pieces of equipment by now the little snow is still a secret weapon 🔫... Thanks for the cool message keep it up 😊 🎶

Found work around to the virus nonsupport is to buy refurbished $300 Macbook Air with older version of the Mac OS X that is supported and can run the Virus TI software and Logic X. Such a royal pain and disgraceful behavior on the part of Chris Kemper and Access Music to drop the ball on their flagship product!

I'm not sure if they did an update for m1 chip set... They don't really update their drivers for years... It good to check the website if there is any indication for that. Cheers

I have a Virus TI2 I love it. Haven’t been able to learn it fluent because it has soooo much. But I have a question is their any way to midi to the new M1 Mac. I can not find the program to make it work. HELP PLEASE!!!!

Unfortunately I'm a pc user and never had this issue. Most probably there is a workaround... I saw they putted updated for the drivers on the official site maybe you could check it 😎

@@sergionardozza7198 the virus ti have 2 ways to Connect to your system. Via USB pluged in to computer and use it as soundcard/vst in your daw. Second is to use the digital analogue converters in the back of it (that should be superb). If u wanna use a pedal like you mentioned you plug the TI to the pedal and from there to your mixer/amp/sound card... Hope it's helpful... If u have any other questions feel free to ask 🙏
