I’m so thankful for the collective work of many to ensure that we can all be #CrownProud whether we choose to wear our hair out and big, or in #protectivestyles in the workplace, in learning institutions, on television, in our military, etc.
Thirdliest, maybe you’ve never heard someone say that your hair isn’t professional because it isn’t pressed out, or sleek, or in a straight weave…but many have, and many still deal with that on a daily basis. Many people still walk into salons only to be told that no one can do their hair there because no one knows how. Many people still don’t have easy access to products for their hair. I remember when our military had such stringent standards (that were SO Eurocentric) that many women of color began to suffer from traction alopecia due to the constant weaves or tiny braids in order to be seen as professional in the workplace AND NOT LOSE RANK.
Forthliest, yes, there has been progress over the years, but progress isn’t enough. #TheCrownAct goal is to put an end to Race based hair discrimination, so join #TheCrownMovement and sign the petition!
Fifthliest, don’t stop at watching this and signing, share it to your story, share it with a friend, have a loved one sign too! Why? Because we are better together and it’s much harder to ignore us when we band together. Remember, you don’t have to have a huge following to make a difference or a positive impact, we are are influential in the communities we serve and are a part of.
Lastliest, don’t be questioning me about my age, I’m clearly the same age as everyone else in that class! 😂 As always, know that I am so beyond thankful for you, and it is my pleasure to share my knowledge with you, hopefully in a way that brings a smile to your face, healing to your soul, and bountifulness upon your strands!
