Yes, there's always different folks who can show you new ways to catch fish.... lol, I got taught by a man in Key West that it was me doing it wrong. I had fished right off Mallory Square for 30-40minutes straight down in the water. He told me I was doing it wrong & I gave him my rod..... he simply took it from me, jerked the bait around & hooked a fish in about 30 seconds. HE reeled it in & did it again/again. At 5-6 fish I was taught that I knew nothing, nada, zero, zip, nor zilch about fishing. And so I watch you today. Great place & beautiful. peace

there’s such thing as too tight of drag homie. That’s how you pull hooks. also let the fish run with a circle hook before setting it.

Hey man I was thinking about you losing this fish. Do you use a top shot? On my heavy rod I use for bait fishing I run 40LB braid to about 15 or 20FT (double the length of the rod you are using) of 50LB mono tied with an FG knot. I tie on a 150LB black swivel and tie my 3FT long 80LB leader to that. You should try a similar set up (beefed up of course), the 20FT of mono gives you a little more abrasion protection when the line touches the rocks and you can grab it while landing a fish. If you want to switch to casting just cut off the leader and add a clip to the swivel to use lures. All my setups use this system with lighter or heavier braid/mono combinations. Peace.
