Not much compared to what yall charge for services. Be more generous to your employees.

I know. I wish casket companies, vault companies, and cemeteries and their fees could also be less, but unfortunately, inflation and the need to pass those costs on to families. The benefit to families is being able to assign insurance proceeds to cover the expenses. All this to say, many funeral homes’ pricing is much in line with the exceptional care and service offered. The add-ons, some mentioned above, are not controlled by the homes. The selection of casket is controlled by the family. I believe licensed staff should be paid more, too. Pay alone doesn’t measure generosity. Unless, of course, that’s what someone is driven by. Thanks for your comment.

@NathanMorrisMusic understanding all that. Are you saying the reason the average funeral costs about $10,000 is because caskets cost so much ? Recently a funeral cost someone I know $13,000. No service. No embalming. Just cold storage, a bath (I hope) and dressing (I hope). The casket wasn't high end. While I appreciate what you guys in the industry do, I feel like paying the people who actually make owners more wealth could be more generous. That's all.

@@MrsEyes512 sadly the somewhat free market we still have left is putting up with this. For instance me and my future wife are in a fight right now (well not really) because I am basically telling her not to go back and finish in the mortuary field because of the low pay. It simply is not fair to someone sacrificing so much to get the position. Until the demand requires more pay, it will not happen. That is the way things should be honestly.

@user-wh7kt5oz3r 😆. Really? People die every day. Lots of people. These big corporations who own funeral homes are making bank! The big guys at the top definitely are. Even at the few remaining small funeral homes the owners are making bank. That's why I said they should be more generous. I hope your wife finds a career that she loves. The reality is unless people have great connections and or lots of degrees the pay will always be low. It's really never what you know but who you know when talking about pay on a job. That really sucks. But it's reality.
