if your controller was new and was discharged for a long time. make sure you use a USB cable provided by Sony or some sturdy branded USB cable that is capable of supplying proper charge to the controller. I had the same issue and was trying to use other USB cables I had lying around which did not work till I used the actual cable.

That explains. My controller only charged on the actual console. But I don't have my ps4 anymore, but still have the controller and have no way to charge it. Do you have any good recommendations on USB cables?

I bought a cheap charging station for when the cord method didn't charge the controller and sometimes the charging station won't charge it not sure if the controller has to be almost dead for it to start charging I don't have a playstation 4 I use the dual shock 4 to play certain games on my ps3 and games on my samsung galaxy tab s7 but for some reason it won't stay connected to my tablet

i just got a ps4 and just bought a new controller, i tried to connect it and press the ps button on the controller like it tells me on the screen. but it just flashes white and then stops. i tried to reset it and it still wont work. when i plug it in it turns yellow and stops

There are newer dual shock 4 controllers and older ones the newer ones are basically designed poorly which is why they have charging and connecting issues and these are the ones there selling in stores now If you get an older model you may not have these issues

@@ripjawsquad what do you mean I have 2 dual shock ps4 controllers and they both won't charge or stay connected I don't have a ps4 console I mainly use them for emulator gaming on my tablet since they don't charge on the cord I bought a charging dock officially licensed by sony and the same thing happened the dock wouldn't charge the controllers my xbox series x controller has no charging or connection issues it seems sony is junk when it comes to the playstation 4 even the ps5 had issues with it's controllers they had controller drift issues

It works thanks tbh my usb charger was to fat for the slot in the ps4 so I had to pinch it in and so the usb slid all the way in and gave the controller a full charge

For me, the ps4 (original) controller has a rather strange case. When the cable is connected to an external charger or to the USB port on the ps4, it works properly, but when I disconnect the cable, it immediately shuts off controller. I tried everything, changed the battery, reset the controller, kept it on the charger for 12 hours. Quite unusual, do you know maybe what this is about?

In settings is a setting that let's it communicate through USB or Bluetooth it's probably set to USB. Change setting.
