If you're having issues binding the Rudder axis to your Triggers, try using Steam to play DCS World (see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EUaMKe-eTqc.html ). This will combine gamepads with 2 trigger axes into 1 single trigger axis and will allow you to properly use the Rudder in DCS.
I've always wanted to try DCS but i didnt have the money to buy a HOTAS, until i saw your gamepad setup tutorials. I decided to give it a try and bought the Hornet. Now besides the hornet, i own F-16, F-14, A-10C, AV-8 and Mirage 2000. All played with an XBOX controller. Thank you so much.
Don't play DCS but IRL I recommend the Mirage 2000. My dream would be the Rafale but that is wishful thinking of course. Delta wing fighters always respond well to me.
There are also cheaper options to get a hotas, you don’t have to buy a thrustmaster A-10 to enjoy hotas. Thrustmaster Hotas One is probably the best bank for your money if you’re looking for an entry level hotas

If you use a VR headset, you could replace camera look with target designator slew or replace trim with turn on laser range finder and electro-optical camera. So you can really experience all of DCS in the frogfoot.

Thanks for this. I got the A-10C module back in 2013 but found the hardest thing was being able to look around in a decent manner. Track IR does my neck in, as does keeping my eyes on the screen as I move my head. Until I find a decent eye tracking solution (Tobii sure, but I want to try a free one first) this will be great. I have a hotas setup and recently got dcs and the f16 pack and am loving the game so far Got my first couple confirmed kills in a pvp server and am constantly getting better and it’s getting a lot of fun
I would like to know more pls, I want to get in DCS using a Xbox One controller. This video and instructions was very helpful. Personally I would go with LT/RT as throttel, LB/RB as rudder for yaw, B for weapons, A for guns, and both Flare/Chaff fire off together with Y. So A is left open.

Thank you! I used your mapping with my PS5 controller. Works as well as it could possibly work. Going to buy a HOTAS soon. Just working with what I have for now until I save up for my hotas. If anyone has recommendations for or against particular HOTAS units, I am all ears. I don’t want to spend more than $200.

My Rudder is not working properly. The axis is showing it turning the rudder when the trigger is decompressed. Its using only one trigger as the axis for the rudder and not both so decompressed is left and pressed is right. its not using the right trigger
Having an issue with the rudder binding. For some reason the rudder is stuck either full left or full right, depending on which trigger I have binded. I have to hold the trigger down to center it, if I let go it immediately swings back left as if I'm hold down the trigger. Any solution?
Yup, see pinned comment. Basically you'll want to run DCS though Steam with the appropriate controller support enabled. Whether it's Steam Edition or even Standalone
Hi I found out that unless I did something wrong, I can’t fire the weapons with R1 and R2 using the DS4windows for the Xbox emulator that you showed is there a step I missed or is this an overlook ?
Unfortunately the only way to do this in DCS is by further decreasing the "Saturation Y" axis tune setting. Another option you could try is setting a curve on top of that, but it may still not be enough without resorting to Steam for mouse control. I feel like I did everything correctly but for some reason, i am unable to actually fly the aircraft. The camera look works great I am able to click anything within the cockpit but I can't get back to where the sticks just control the plane. Any idea what I am doing wrong here?
Trying to get my friend into dcs and bought him the Su 27 to start him off. I'm pretty new to the game as well but I have a HOTAS. Do you have a reccommended binding setup he could use for that specific plane? I suppose the Su 25 is fairly similar.
hey i got an issue with the view (head turning) in your video is kind fo smooth, with my game (using your exact setting) it's incredibly itchy and not smooth at all, looking on the side on a FIX point is nearly impossible, it keeps "jumping", nearly impossible to use without having your eyes melt... any idea why? it's like it's "super sensitive".

There isn't great 3rd person options for flying around. But if you wanted to anyways, try LCtrl+F4. Then if you get tired of it, F1 to go back to cockpit view
Hey Tuuvas, did you take down an old "controller guide" where you assigned different keybinds while on a Su-25T tutorial? It helped me so much and got so used to it but now I can't seem to find it I just used my mouse and keyboard for the extras

Great video, thank you so much for the help! Although I ran into a problem, DCS won’t let me assign right stick for designator slew (at this point I should specify that I was partially using this vid for my Su-25A setup). Any advice?
It's likely because you need to set that up through the Axis Commands section. Thumbsticks are analog axis controls, and because of that cannot be bound to the individual Left, Right, Up and Down slew button directions
really struggling to even learn how to play this game because seems like every control i need is missing. For example, i dont even have "pitch" as an option to change on my list. My controller picks up fine and i can clear all the controller controls but i have no pitch option at all on my list. I do see TDC Slew and Camera view but these are my only options on the axis menu. If anyone knows how i can add pitch to my list that would be great. I really want to try the game out before going all in on a hotas setup and spending extra on that because it does look enjoyable. It's just not even playable for me at the moment to find out if i would like it or not because i dont seem to have all of the controls showing up for me that everyone else does lol.
This only happens when your controller isn't connected, or if your controller doesn't have any analog axes for whatever reason. Make sure it's plugged in and detected by Windows, Steam, etc.
I cannot get rudder to be bound to both triggers. Basically, when I don't touch the left trigger, it registers as rudder 100% left. If I hold the left trigger halfway in, it would be neutral rudder, and if I fully press left trigger, it would register as rudder to the right
This is likely due to you using a PlayStation style controller, or a very old Xbox 360 controller. Basically, instead of your triggers being a single, shared axis.. they are instead 2 individual axes. The only way around this is to use a program like Steam to take your controller and make it look like an Xbox controller to the game. This will combine the triggers into a single, shared axis.
Unfortunately there will be issues with the rudder axis on PS4 and PS5 controllers. But honestly, I'm tempted to just remove this tutorial entirely in favor of my newest one. Look up "Why I Ditched my $3000 HOTAS for a $50 Controller". That's my latest guide and will provide all my profiles I've ever made
If I already have a full HOTAS setup... Should I even consider using a controller instead? Setting up new planes is such a pain. And, going from Jets to Warbirds is so much different in layouts. There has to be a better - easier way. I refuse to use a keyboard layout and thought having a full HOTAS setup, plus StreamDeck would make things easier. It did not make it easier. That is why I am considering using a Controller instead. I too use the Tobii 5 for viewing.
Ultimately that decision is yours to make. But my 2 cents is I actually prefer flying with my controller over my full VirPil setup ( i.imgur.com/E5M81gV.png ) because it's so easy to just pickup and play. Sometimes it's a right pain to set everything up.. and the setup process almost makes DCS feel like a chore before it has even begun. Because of that, I prefer to pay with a Xbox controller. I still have a wired controller and I plan to try it out. I'll begin with the Su-27, which I think is the easiest, and then progress to the P-51D. I wanted to express my gratitude for sharing the Su-27 setup template, which I am currently implementing. During the process, I encountered the Su-27 Levers Up and Levers Down commands, which initially confused me. However, after some thought, I realized that they referred to the Throttle Levers Up and Down. To avoid confusion for other users, I would recommend changing the command terminology to Throttle Up and Throttle Down. In the long term, I am planning to switch to a VR setup, which is why I am considering using a controller instead of a 2D setup. I believe that a controller will be more suitable for VR, and I appreciate your help and guidance on this matter. Thanks again!
@@RobertHopkinsArt The naming conventions on my layouts are due to two major factors: 1. Searchability - if you take 1 of the words in the name and use the search function, you're probably going to find what you're looking for. For instance, for increasing throttle in the Su-27 there's "Throttle Up", "Throttle Step Up", "Throttle Left Up", "Throttle Step Up Left"... etc. But, there's only one "Throttle Levers - UP". 2. Space - I simply run out of space and cannot fit the whole name of the control binding.

I use a lot of your controller layouts but since the latest deccs update all the layouts no longer work for all my planes. Is that because of the game? Do I have to reinstall it or do you know a solution?

When I try to bind the buttons ( X, Circle, Square, Triangle, All D-pad buttons) they don't register as anything. I've been able to get the joysticks and triggers to register but nothing else. Using a Ps4 controller? Anyone else having this issue?

No, you'll likely want to use their website version. But you can play it through your Steam client by adding it as a non-Steam game. I go over how to do this in my "Why I Ditched My $3,000 HOTAS" video. It's basically a better version of this tutorial that gives you access to way more binds more easily using profiles you can import

I just watched the video on how to control the mouse with the right stick for a ps4 controller. ON DCS and I'm confused it wont disable the input when I hold L1 anyone know of a fix to this
I'll need more information about what's going wrong. Are you able to look around just fine by moving the mouse with right stick movement? If so, then is your only issue that L1 is not preventing you from looking around? Or is there more going wrong than just that?
@@Tuuvas I use the left xbox joystick for axis commands (roll, etc.) and the right one for the view commands. I want to use the same layout like you do for the F5e. But i cant use the right joystick together with the modifier for the TDC adjustements. All buttons with the modifiers are working correctly.
And just to make sure I know where you're coming from.. did you follow this tutorial you're commenting on? or a couple of my other, more involved tutorials like setting up DCS on Steam?
If it doesn't allow you to set both modifiers to a single action, double check and make sure you've actually set both bumpers as modifiers to begin with. There should be no reason you can't bind using two modifiers as long as you've set both bumpers as modifiers before binding other controls.

Unfortunately the F-16C is just too complicated for this simplified set of controller binds. Heck, even the Su-25T isn't fully utilized with this set of controls. For that, I would recommend watching the following videos: 1. Everything would still work except the rudder controls on triggers. To get around this, you can try running DCS through steam. Either use the version available through Steam, or add the website version to your Steam library as a non-Steam game and enable PlayStation controller support
If you plan on using the Absolute Camera Horizontal/Vertical bindings, then your only real option is the "Curve" setting in Axis Tune.
