Siapa menang bet?😉 Firstly, my five fav characters from Shōgun are Fuji, Fuji, Fuji, Fuji and Ki… I mean, Fuji. The 80s dramatisation differs IMHO by way of it being a more romanticised appraisal of Clavell’s novel concentrating on kesah chenta Isabella, with less of the political intrigue as seen in the current adaptation (yes, it’s the entire novel). Which brings me to our (masa kami kat animudivisyen discuss the series) worry of how they are doing a second season. The novel had Blackthorne, but kalau the second season nak cerita the buildup to the Battle of Sekigahara, Blackthorne (or IRL William Adams) tak pivotal langsung in Toranaga’s rise to power as shōgun. Personally, they did well with this season, and kalau Justin Marks keeps to his words that he will not do it if what comes out of the writers’ room is not up to par (in a recent-ish interview), then that is fine. Despite the 25 Emmy nominations, the ones that counted more eg best actor, actress, drama etc, Shōgun tak menang pun despite their historic 14-award win (tere Dauudovi-san… was this sesh recorded yesterday hehe). Quick history recap. Tokugawa Ieyasu = Toranaga Yoshi, which I think semua tahu anyway😊. The Taiko was based on Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who died when his heir was still a boy (which was why the council of five regents were appointed to jaga the boy until he comes of age, but the council had other ideas). Dauudovii-san mentioned Nobunaga Oda (his death at Honno-ji was due to betrayal by Akechi Mitsuhide, father of one Hosokawa Gracia, the character Mariko was based on, which explains a lot. Jengjejeng!) - true, he was the person who unified Japan, but it was Ieyasu/Toranaga that sealed the deal finally. The Edo period / Tokugawa shogunate kept the peace until the Meiji period in the 19th C. Not bad aa 300+ years.
