I am so glad to see a mouthpiece review that is not 5 to 10 years ago. I'm having trouble with the lower notes being flat, and hoping i can find a mouthpiece that might help with that.

Thanks, Sherry! I think you'll have good luck with the Vandoren mouthpieces. If you do end up trying one of those mouthpieces out, I would recommend using a tuner to see the pitch tendencies between your current mouthpiece and the newer one. Hope this helps!

Clark fobes = hands down winner for beginner. VD BD5 for pro classical VD 5JB for Jazz And...Mike Dassios makes a line of professional models...as does Greg Smith and Clark Fobes. Can't go wrong with any of them in terms of quality and consistency.

Thanks for the recommendations! I like the VD BD5 too! I’ve never tried the Clark Fobes, but I’ll give it a try. Thanks again and thanks for watching!

Throughout my clarinet studies, i was looking for a powerful tour de force Mouthpiece, which will open up the most resistant, hard to blow, clarinets in my collection. Ranging from Kaspar, Behn, Backun, crystal, Selmer, Master Gregory etc, etc. To my surprise, i came across a Vandoren M30 lyre (13), which gave me the utmost clarity, projection, lead volume.Thus far is the very best, the cream of de crem. I enjoyed very much all your videos You are a great pedagog.

HI. Working pro and teacher here. For beginners, the Yamaha 4C is the answer. Easy to find, and if the student's first instrument is a Yamaha, which I definitely recommend, it's included so it's also convenient. I'm not a fan of the Hite Premiere. The Fobes Debut can work for awhile, but it plays way too easy for anyone but the most raw beginners. Anyone who's developed any embouchere strength will have outgrown this one....but it works fine for making an absolute beginner sound reasonably ok. From the Vandoren line, I REALLY like the BD5!! It's great for intermediate to advanced students, and can last all the way up to a professional level player, several of whom I know play on them and sound great. The B45 is a good choice for players who want to double on sax, switching back and forth feels quite comfortable on this one, and it plays big and full.

Oh yes, the BD5 is a great choice too! I also like to pair the Yamaha 4C with the Yamaha plastic clarinet for beginners. Thanks for your valuable suggestions!

I started on a Vito II as a beginner, moved to a Vandoren B45, then to an older VR2 when that one broke (i got it used, i was broke). I think im going to go back to the B45. I always got beautiful tone with that one paired with a stiff reed.

I bought my granddaughter Rae a 1984 Vito Resotone #3, tight with nice white pads. She plays a Yamaha at school, 7th grade, I have her on video on this channel at a recital. The Vito was missing a ligature. So I ordered a J&D Hide Premiere and a J&D Hite Ligature $47, with plans to buy a better one a year from now when we actually know what to look for and try some things out. Did I get the right one. It sounded good to me. We get to try it tomorrow. Thank you for demonstrating it, you are very kind to do that!@@clarinetnotestudio4851

As a beginning adult player, my teacher started me on a Vandoren B45. After having played for a while now, I have come to the conclusion that this kind of mouthpiece is somewhat too open for a complete beginner, and I think you should develop your embouchure a bit before trying such a mouthpiece. I think the mouthpieces you suggest for beginners are a couple of the better ways to go for complete beginners, for something that is widely available and relatively inexpensive.

Thanks for the comment, David! That's a good point. I have noticed with my beginning clarinetists that it typically works best for them if I start them out on a more basic mouthpiece before moving them up to the Vandoren models. I know every player is a little different, but sometimes certain mouthpieces can be too resistant initially, especially when building up the embouchure muscles. Thanks for watching!

@@clarinetnotestudio4851Isn't this soft for M15 and M13 Lyre?
@jimis3167
@jimis3167 5 месяцев назад
@@clarinetnotestudio4851I recently found a good M15 but my preferred reed would be V12 4.5+ which doesn't exist. 4.5 is lighter than I like and 5 is heavier.
@jimis3167
@jimis3167 5 месяцев назад
@@clarinetnotestudio4851That's why I'll get to try also some M13 Lyres, maybe a stock reed strength matches better. I'm using only V12s, they're my reed choice.
@clarinetnotestudio4851
@clarinetnotestudio4851 5 месяцев назад
@@jimis3167 Good question! It just depends on the player. For me the M15 and M13 lyre feel more resistant to me than the B45 and 5rV. I kept the reed the same between mouthpieces for the video, but if I was changing my mouthpiece permanently I would definitely play around with different reed combinations. I’ve been playing on Vandoren Traditional and V12 strength 3.5 reeds for almost 30 years, so I’m used to them, but I still have to tweak the reeds to get them to work on my mouthpiece. That being said, if you switch mouthpieces and your reed feels too soft you might want to go up half a strength. Hope this helps!

Yep, I think it just depends on your preference. They all felt a little different, but I think they would work for most people. Thanks for watching!
