One of my favorite lines ever. Together with Springsteen's "Is a dream a lie if it don't come true or is it something worse?" And Kristofferson "I ain't saying I beat the devil... But I drank his beer for nothing.. Then I stole his song."

If you listen to the lyrics, it's a journey through life. I can relate. My love was Sandi. She made many promises. It was me and her against the world!.. she screwed up horribly, hurt me deeply. I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then!... Found myself alone, surrounded by strangers I thought were my friend's... Partying like a freaking rock star, buckets of alcohol, mountains of cocaine and other things. Not a care in the world! Then you wake up one day, and need to settle down because the party can't keep going.... But you always find yourself reelecting....

Bob Seger has some great songs. The first time I heard Bob Seger was on the radio with my headphones one night. the song was "Mainstreet" in 1976 I think and to this day it's still my favorite Seger song. Thats how we learned about new songs and bands back then. Through radio and friends and borrowing albums from each other. There's something magical about being a teenager and music at that age. Still love music but that time in life and music go together so well. Bob Seger made some great music. listen to: "Still the same" and "Shame on the moon"

Seger was good friends with Don Henley and Glen Frey of the Eagles. He played them this song before it was released to get their thoughts on it. They loved it, but Bob told them he didn't like the line, "I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then", because he felt it wasn't grammatically correct. They said, "Are you crazy?!? That's the best line in the song!"

*YOU'RE KILLING ME!!!!!* At age 56 feeling the sun in the western part of my life now this song never fails to bring a tear to my eye, hell it makes me cry period. A few of the lines in the song just tear my heart out. Just the thought of loves and friends of the past and how I didn't treasure them enough at the time. The line I found my self further and further from my home always crushes me. I was born and raised in Rhode Island and still love it and consider it my home, since I left in my 20's I found myself moving further and further away and have now been stuck in Florida for the past 25-30 years, absolutely hating it. Such a good song but I never dare to listen to it because of how much it depresses me. Which really sucks because of my love for Bob Seger and his music. I'd love to hear you two do...... While he is older now he is still running against the wind (life). Struggles are different when we are younger vs. when we are older but they are always there. I absolutely adore this song! I also enjoy the version performed by The Highwaymen. A country music super group comprised of Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings. And last, but certainly not least, Johnny Cash.

This is one of those songs that is wonderful to hear when you're young and going through it. It hits. Then, when you're older, it hits different. Bob Segar is the king of putting that sentiment to music.

My favorite by BOB SEGAR . We all have lost our way a time or two. How you deal with it is a learning experience .

I can still remember my Grandmother buying this on 8-track and bringing it to the house. We would listen to it over and over again. Good time, better memories.

At 48, I feel like I’ve lived the part about friends and running and then seeking shelter. Always liked this song, but I guess I had to go through some stuff to really appreciate it. Great video as always! 👍🏼

There used to be a DJ in DC that did a parody of this song. Against Her Chin....They Were Slapin' Against Her Chin. LOL

Bob Seger was a serious rocker, but as he aged his mellow grooves and retrospective lyrics became some of his best music....

I think like a lot of Bob's song it's open to interpretation, and what you the listener take from it is what's right- for you.

I have seen Seger 6 times live including 1983 when this song was the title cut of the Against the Wind album and tour. From the late 70s to the early 2010s. He was a staple of the music I grew up with. Great artist. Great songs. Great times.

Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends. Great line. I always picture someone going back to where they grew up and meeting with old friends and realizing you have nothing in common with these people anymore.

I didn't understand this song as well either when I was your age as I do now. Brad's mom would have been great to sit in on this.
