It would be lovely to see Olivier Latry perform on the organ. Some other suggestions: Fraser Gartshore, Jonathan Scott (from Scott Brothers Duo), Diane Bish, Maria Magdelana Kacsor. The sound from the organ is AMAZING.

You ask who we'd like to see play the organ, well Richard, you of course. Like I have said, you are a fantastic organist, and there are many AGO chapters that would enjoy having you presented in recital on some of their notable instruments. As to some of the others? You mentioned Olivier Latry. Absolutely. Also, due to the situation currently at Notre Dame Cathedral, he might not be quite as busy -- glad the Cavaille-Coll was saved. Another would be Daniel Roth, one of his improvisations would sound great on it. Jonathan Scott, absolutely. What a talent. Your Hauptwerk looks grand and beautiful, and sounds wonderful with beautiful colors. What a thrill it must be to own such a magnificent "practice organ." Thanks for sharing; for sharing your talent, insights, and love of the organ and it's literature.

A lovely instrument Richard. Thank you for sharing. My six manual multiple Hauptwerk instrument organ was built by myself on the smell of an oily rag (from an Estey Grand Reed Organ). Nowhere near the realism of your home instrument, and the attention to detail seen in yours. Love it! Love your playing, enthusiasm and humour. Well done!

Fortunately the quality of the music played on an organ is not a 100% bound to the abilities of the organ console. So your YT channel and your renditions must not hide behind the music we have heard and will hear on Richards new console, Philip. I will visit both channels (and also some others) to enjoy good played organ music on interesting - both Hauptwerk and real pipe - organs. Continue your good work on both channels.

We have a lot to thanks the electronic industry for in producing these instruments. I'm 83 and when I first started to play the organ there was only the local church and practice time was at a premium. the the Allen computer organ was just coming on stream way back then and it cost an arm and a leg to buy one. One has to marvel at how a would be beginner organist managed before the advent of electronic organs and even organs that were powered by electric blowers !! The organ as an instrument is surely becoming main stream rather than the inaccessible instrument that is was years ago.

Re the cost! I reckon u are not far out. Wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't more! Renatus built the console and they are not cheap. Did they supply the keyboards not sure ? Definitely one of the best Hauptwerk consoles I have seen. The St. Sulpice replica console also looks incredible and somewhere else I saw another console replica of a cathedral organ. In terms of audio, which may be subjective, there are many instruments using large numbers of channels and/or high end audio, many in large spaces, so it is hard to say what the "best" Hauptwerk organ is. Without a doubt though this instrument is incredible and will bring a lot of positive attention to what is possible with Hauptwerk. Well done!
@beautyinsound
@beautyinsound 2 года назад
Thanks John. I can say with all certainty that Renatus Ltd have created 'one' of the best Hauptwerk organs and it was far surpassed my own expectations. Hopefully my viewers may realise that a lot of what I say is tongue-in-cheek, but this organ isn't made to just 'look' like a good organ - it's using all of the best in the business parts (solenoids & stop heads, keyboards, swell pedals, wood, music desk etc). The organ is equally impressive under the skin as it is at face value. I'd love to see more of the Saint-Sulpice replica, and maybe its owner will invite me over one day to play it.

Amazing. I was laughing at some of the humourous parts of the tour. The favorite part of the tour was at 4:37. I know that in the USA the left stopjamb is in the reverse order on a lot of American organs but the right stopjamb it is in the "Correct Order." Also I like how Sortie in Eflat is in "what goes up must come down".

I wish you many years enjoying your new console, and what it will allow you to do. The only Hauptwerk console cost that concerns me is the one I plan to have made. Unless someone is contributing direct financial funding for my console, they don't have any business knowing the cost. IMO. :) At present, I have a makeshift "portable" 4-manual console with 25-note pedals, cobbled together from various and sundry items; it works and allows me to explore and learn Hauptwerk however, it is far from ideal.

I love this new Organ. It's one part space shuttle (so many stops!) and one part cathedral worthy wood grain. I love that you basically have a very realistic cathedral-like sound in your own home. Any chance you know anyone who can help Sam from Look Mom No Computer get his new museum organ working and intonated in its new home at his new museum? It was rescued from someone who is selling a house in England that had a pipe organ (the actual pneumatic classic kind) installed in their house which he has carefully disassembled and carried back to his museum and is setting back up.

This is a Organist's dream ! However one must be realistic and practical. As a large instrument is fairly expensive as well as accomdating it preferably in a room that is soundproof. I think what would also be good is to perhaps have a play on hands sessions for Organist's interested in seeing and hearing what it feels like overall. He or she could make a small donation towards the funding of your channel Richard. I like the idea of guest organists but two of the greatest organists I know are sadly in a care home and no longer able to play. Nathan Laube is probably one of the finest younger concert Organists on the scene now. He opened the refurbished Organs at Kings College Cambridge & Canterbury Cathedral . TBH for how much you probably paid, I hope you got the builders to come and fix those technical problems as I think they deserve to be looked at. I have a similar idea to the whole invite the community onto the organ, but my vision is a bit grander and involves actually building pipes to have the old girl sing again, which probably wont happen for many years if it happens at all. Overall, the console is a hit I believe and as long as you are happy with it then it's a win. The American layout is still the best and you can't change my mind.

In no particular order....John Scott Whiteley, Colin Walsh, David Briggs, Daniel Lancelot, Naji Hakim, Daniel Roth, Olivier Latry and Cameron Carpenter. There are so many very talented organists that deserve a chance to play this wonderful instrument. However, the ones I've listed are just a few of my favorites.

Thank you so much for explaining how the stops can be configured. I assume that as you acquire additional Hauptwerk instruments, you get the corresponding stops and install just those. Then, do you have to map the physical location of the stop to the logical stop in Hauptwerk?

Great video, thanks! Apologies if this suggestion has been made before....but would you consider putting the name of the sample set you are using on screen? Maybe next to the little clock?

Fabulous overview. Thanks. Is there any chance of a video detailing the sequencer operation? Obviously I get the basic concept of +/- to cycle through the combinations but for those of us not blessed with the big cathedral instruments they are always a bit of a mystery. Are your sequencer 0-9 (why 0?) independent of the generals 1-10? For what purposes would you use either or both? How many channels do you have? Do you have some sort of USB output to save your settings for certain pieces? Is it easy to insert an intermediate step in the sequence or do you need to allow for any changes by leaving blank/duplicate combinations?
@beautyinsound
@beautyinsound 2 года назад
The Seq buttons are entirely independent of the Generals. The advance buttons only work on the sequencer in Hauptwerk, which is a shame. My interface as 16 channels, and I’m using 14 of them for everything in total.

I tend to set up pieces when I’m about to play them rather than saving them for later use. I like to vary my registrations from time to time as well.

Could you and would you get the builder to fix some of the problems? Or is it not worth the time?

They’ll be fixed in due course. They’re actually very small niggles in relation to the size of the instrument and all the components which make it up.

Instead of removable stops, do you think it would pe possible to have round high resolution screens at the end of the stops that load the name of the stop from Hauptwerk? Would save a lot of tinkering when switching between samples.

Awesome overview! Thanks Richard! The only thought I had is that, with the expansive capabilities of Hauptwerk,. some instruments might benefit from having at least one more expression pedal. With the increaasing presence of "the girls" you may need to retrieve that roll of tape and keep it handy ... ;-)

Here is another idea for you to consider: Invite young students (of whatever your British Guild of Organists might be) to come an learn about your organ and compare the various organs you have acquired. What an incredible opportunity for them to hear and play some of the world's finest instruments in one location! PLEASE DO CONSIDER THIS SERIOUSLY!

Dear Richard, it was not my intention offend your fantastic organ. But David told me, he wouldnt like to play on digital organs, because I asked him to play on mine after I saw him playing on Jörg Glebes digital organ. He called these organs "plastic organs"@@beautyinsound

You could possibly ask Renatus as a possible ‘play-in’ period about either shaving a bit off the piston key-slips, or, re-fitting with a heavier gauge thumper rail, or fitting (very slightly) thicker front rail key felts to absorb an enthusiastic organist/pianist……sorry! I’ll go off now and wash my mouth out with carbolic soap! Just out of curiosity, what’s the longevity of interchangeable drawstop knobs as I had a really fine digital organ supplied to a church I played in and one, maybe two had to be exchanged due to faulty magnets.
