JS Bach's famous 'Piece d'Orgue' played on the 1832 Van Dam Organ in the church of Tholen, Netherlands.
I hope you like my keyboard interplay in the first section! :)
This organ was sampled for Hauptwerk by ‪@Hauptwerkgek‬ and more details about this organ may be found here: voxusorgans.co....

Nice to hear the middle section on a more mellow registration, rather than the usual roar. And beautifully played.

Keyboard interplay noted - and very good addition to the overall effect which is appreciated by this listener.

What a beautiful sample set! It looks tiny compared to others, but has a beautiful crisp sound. And agree with Dianne, a beautiful way to start the morning in the southern hemisphere - thank you very much Richard! :)

I really enjoyed this! The colours in the outer sections are great and the plenum in the contrapuntal central section is very fine.

That instrument is a joy in every respect. My headphones have never been so happy. Don't get me wrong, I love Bach .... but does the last 2 mins make anyone else think of Steve Reich? (or is that too blasphemous!)

🤣 Not sure what the relvance is between this 1832 organ, BWV 572 and my dinosaur socks is! I'm sure there's a sumblineral connection between them all in there somewhere....

Un manque de phrasé et de respiration....

That’s interesting because I actually thought there was quite a lot of phrasing and breathing.

@@richmcveigh La gestuelle suffit-elle à la pièce centrale ? A quelle mesure y-a-t- il la moindre respiration dans cette partie grandiose et inspiree que je connais dans ses moindres notes et phrases musicales ?

Very nice to hear Bach on Tholen, one of the many underestimated sample sets around.

After obsessing about this piece for a week I realized that surely Mr. McVeigh must have given us a rendition at some point and I am so glad for it! I must say it is by far the best I heard online; better than Latry’s and Dupré’s (VERY symphonic) versions… clearer and more interesting registrations and ornaments even than Van Doeselaar’s version which honestly I didn’t think was possible! Thank you very much!

Nice! One of my favourite works by Bach. I saw you repeated the b in the pedal which is what I do but in my copy there's a bottom b (doesn't exit)! Publishing error? Pretty sure no organ has lower than bottom c.

Actually, I am pretty sure that the small, very historic organ at St Ethelreda's church, West Quantoxhead, (West Somerset), has a non-standard pedalboard consisting only of 'pull-down' pedals that go right down to 'G' to match with the lowest notes of the single keyboard. This has the same layout as an American reed organ. The pedals are NOT centralised with the manual at 'D' -' D' in the standard manner. This makes the pedals difficult to use for anyone not familiar with this instrument. -(I used to maintain this organ until age and health issues intervened). (Not wishing to confuse the issue but I had better mention for completeness that this church also has a barrel organ).
