Easily my favorite song in Led Zep’s catalog and also one of my favorite songs, period. Everything about this track is otherworldly and majestic while also being melancholy and nostalgic. This song speaks to me and I do indeed pine on former and lost loves when I hear it, and I often wonder if those ladies hear it(or some other song special to them) and think about me every once in a while as I do them.

This is my favorite Zeppelin song and it makes me sad that most people have never even heard of it. This song is the definition of epic. The sound in this song takes you on a journey and the lyrics are so reflective. Another thing that makes this great is that there are multiple ways to interpret what it means. All these things give the song such a pure Zeppelin vibe.

I feel like Lex is experiencing what I did as a teenager. Discovering the magic of Led Zeppelin and how they would send you on a journey. Unfortunately John Bonham died when I was 16 (1980) and they decided to part rather than find a different drummer. Some of Robert Plants music was good, but never close to the mysterious feel of Led Zeppelin.

It was like they were on a different planet. I remember when Kasmir first came out, and people were bummed that it wasn't "otherworldly". But if you go back and listen to Kasmir now, it is otherworldy in different ways than the early stuff. It's freaking genius and people were ragging about it...lol.

You and I are the same age - I still remember the day Bonzo died very well I had tickets to their upcoming show. There was no decision - they could not go on without John Bonham - actually they could have never gone on as a band without any of them - each was so integral to their sound

Jimmy Page had originally intended the song to be an instrumental piece; he recorded around 14 guitar tracks to overdub the harmony section.[5] Robert Plant later added lyrics, which are dedicated to an old girlfriend who, ten years earlier, had made him choose either her or his music. Plant explained this in an interview in 1975.

This has always been up in my top 5 Led Zeppelin songs since I first heard it at 12, it’s towards the end of the 4th side of the Double LP “Physical Graffiti” (My favorite Led Zep release) which is absolutely loaded with great songs, but then this one caught me off guard towards the end and always really moved me with its dreamy lingering guitar and short bursts of energy. This is definitely one of those refreshing Led Zep “deep tracks” that was never played in heavy rotation like their many “hits” that would always get radio airplay. Rounding out my Top 5 Led Zep, in no particular order would also include: “Achillies Last Stand”, “In My Time of Dying”, “Out On The Tiles”, and “How Many More Times?”

This what Plant said: Let me tell you a little story behind the song "Ten Years Gone" on our new album. I was working my ass off before joining Zeppelin. A lady I really dearly loved said, "Right. It's me or your fans." Not that I had fans, but I said, "I can't stop, I've got to keep going." She's quite content these days, I imagine. She's got a washing machine that works by itself and a little sports car. We wouldn't have anything to say anymore. I could probably relate to her, but she couldn't relate to me. I'd be smiling too much. Ten years gone, I'm afraid. Anyway, there's a gamble for you. My comment: 10 years before this song was written Plant was only 16.
@pastorofmuppets22
@pastorofmuppets22 2 года назад
Context.In those days,most people didn't finish high school.By 16,most were working full time.In those days,you could fool the military and join at 16 as many people did.In countries where the drinking age is 18,in those days they'd serve a 16 year old.Many were considered emancipated at 16.Many people got married,and or had kids by 16.So while it may seem a bit weird or far fetched by the standards of 2022,it wouldn't have been in the late 1950's or early 1960's
@davidcarter4247
@davidcarter4247 2 года назад
@@pastorofmuppets22 We are talking about the 1960s, not the 1860s. In the 1960s to marry in the UK under 21 required the parental consent. 16 was the minimum age with consent which was also the age of consent. Plant and Maureen were 20 when they married. Maureen, a nurse, supported him financially before Zeppelin but he did work for her father at one stage under pressure to earn money. The woman said to be Plant's girlfriend before Maureen was Maureen's little sister. She was 12 in 1964 when the song was written.

Well.... are you sure you're ready for Physical Graffiti? There are some deep songs and some hard songs and some quirky songs on these two records. As always, you will never find a bad song on this or any Led Zeppelin album. There will be songs you don't really understand why they would record a song and songs that won't click with you until you've listened to it 3 or 4 times, then you'll have an Epiphany while you hear it and you'll say ooohhh! This really is a jam. LOL I can easily recommend every song oj this double album but a couple tracks that I think both of you will like for different reasons, are NIGHTFLIGHT, DOWN BY THE SEASIDE, IN THE LIGHT, and the final track SICK AGAIN. There are no bad songs and you've reacted to a few already that are the more often played tracks, but the DEEP tracks are always Zeppelin's real classics

This is a song that when I hear the first riff of the guitar, I drop what I’m doing to listen to. Robert Plant (lead vocals) wrote this song before his career with LZ took off. It was about a woman he was dating at the time and she gave him an Ultimatum, either it’s her, or his music. SUPER mistake any woman should make to a man!! This song was about 10 years after they broke-up and saw each other. Please read the lyrics again. It’s pure Poetry at its finest!! But music wise, Jimmy Page, (guitars), John Paul Jones ( Bass) and the magnificent Late John Bonham (drums) Collectively made that song totally happen. Try to isolate each part of the solo to understand what I’m taking about.

Oh yes! This is one of my favorites from Led Zeppelin. Lex you are so perceptive. I love hearing what you both think of a song. You have different takes. I'm so glad you guys are listening to more Led Zeppelin.

Sometimes a song will cut through a consciousness of a gathering and enlighten a mood...this is one of those many LZ songs that do!

From the previous studio album before this one (Houses of The Holy). A little song called, The Crunge. A great funky song with Zeppelin (Especially Vocalist Plant). Doing his best James Brown impersonation ! It's a must !

After looking at hundreds of comments, you have to, no you MUST, go on the Zeppelin deep dive. Your subscribers want it, and the customer is always right!

You’re right girl! He rarely ends a phrase without going up in pitch. Good catch! I never realized that and I’m 70.

the best zeppelin song...when the chorus comes in for the final time page combines all the layers that he kept adding each time the chorus happens to make one final wall of guitar sound...one of his crowning achievements on the guitar and in his production work...

Led Zeppelin to me has always been a fortress, a castle, a garrison of that which needs to be housed in a place for all which is precious.

It's a unique Rock song with real lyrics that blends the light and heavy sounds. It makes you feel something every time. Great guitar.

Na. Never was a big Zeppelin fan. I've heard all the songs though. I'd like to know more about their management. They did a hell of a good job.

My second favorite Zep song, #1 would be Tea For One from the Presence album which you haven't reacted to yet. Another long song (9m32s) that isn't long enough.

My favorite Zep song. This one has Plant's most introspective lyrics. Jimmy Page added a ton of guitar dubs to create the cascading sound at the end.
