After this song was originally realsed Bass player Jason matthew thirsk killed himself. Bro Hymn", was originally written by Thirsk as a tribute to three of his friends: Tim Colvin, Carlos Canton, who died in a motorcycle accident, and Tom Nichols, who drowned at Hermosa Beach Pier in 1988. The band re-recorded the song after his death as a tribute to their fallen bandmate, replacing the line "Canton, Colvin, Nichols, this one's for you" with "Jason Matthew Thirsk, this one's for you" becoming a punk rock Anthem and is amazing Live.

they dedicated this song to my friend that passed away in 07'. Such an awesome group of guys that heard about my buddy dying and us playing this at his funeral. They brought his brother on stage and played this song for his little brother. I have nothing but the utmost respect for this band.

Just makes me think of how great Brad and Lex are. I have heard of Pennywise but never actually heard this band. Pretty cool they show music to us who truely don't know some of the songs! Although i am a metal head so i have heard like 95% but once in a while i get shocked.

one of the best live experiences ever, remember singing along with them at a festival and we all just kept singing long after they left the stage while we all walked back our tents... I ditched Red Hot Chilli Peppers to watch them and it was definitely the right choice, such a great band

Agreed man! When I got to see them I just got to the front row and fuck authority started! I was very bruised up after the show, but would do it again in a heartbeat. They just give off so much energy live.

This must be seen live to appreciate its passion and beauty. The crowd would storm the stage and sings along. Me and thousands of others have literally been on stage with pennywise singing this song.

Had a good old skating buddy that I knew since 2006 as a Junior in HS. He hung himself last Tuesday. This song is still on his MySpace profile too. It’s an awesome theme for anyone who lost their closest friend(s) in life.

Singing this song while moshing arm in arm with your best homies is such a vibe. A friend of mine in college is from the same town as this band (Hermosa Beach, CA) and we’d road trip down there for 4th of July to watch them play a concert on the front porch of a house that faced out into a cul de sac. The entire cul de sac would be full of people just having the best time. Such good memories!

I know the Anaheim Angels use Bro Hymn for home runs and the AnaheimDucks use it for goals. Pennywise like so many so cal punk rock bands was either born in or adopted by Orange County, CA. We love that stuff!! 🤙🏻

Fun fact, since 2005 the Anaheim Ducks play this song after every goal. And since 2017 (I think) the Los Angeles Angels play the song after every homerun. Even though Pennywise is from LA, this song is kind of an anthem in Orange County and Anaheim especially.

Half the NHL uses the “woah” part of this song as their goal celebration song. I know all of the California teams do. He says Brett. Brett is the guy who put this out. He plays guitar in bad religion.

Finally got to see these dudes a cupple of years ago here in Auckland Aotearoa new zealand took my mate who was a massive fan of PENNYWISE and dying of lung cancer 9 days later he died he used every bit of energy he could muster and staunched it out and was happy for an hourish almost forgot it was going to be his last gig smiling and happy AND THAT'S HOW I WANT TO REMEMBER DENNIS my BRO

Pennywise was one of my first shows, they played with the Skatenigs at a small club in San Antonio TX. I was just a little skate punk back then, and my has the world changed in the last 20+ years.

I saw Pennywise when I was 18 and it was ether their 25 anniversary tour and they played this song at the end and I was able to be up there singing with a bunch of other people who hopped on stage. Literally one of the best shows I’ve ever seen plus millions of dead cops was there too so extra bonus 🔥

Regarding stadium anthems: This IS one! The chant from this song is the "home goal" song of the NHL Anaheim Ducks. Pennywise are from Orange County (where Anaheim is), and the team asked for the band's permission to use the song. The band said it was an honor. (Someone let me know if the song is still used, I haven't watched a Ducks game in a couple of years, lol.)

"Bro Hymn Tribute" is the 2nd version of this song, dedicated to the late band member that wrote the original (the version you heard, about 3 of his friends who passed away). BASSNECTAR - "BRO HYMN TRIBUTE" is a great remix of the 2nd song.

This song was originally written by the bands bassist Jason matthew thirsk who wrote it after his 3 friends died in a car crash (the 3 names you hear in this song) later the band re wrote in tribute to thirsk after he committed suicide a few years later adding his name instead of the other 3

Original bassist, Jason, wrote this about 3 friends who died while we were growing up. Carlos Canton, Tim Colvin and Tom Nichols ("Canton, Colvin, Nichols this one's for you..."). Colvin was my roommate and Nichols lived with me from time to time. Both were my best friends. Carlos died when a kid, joyriding in his mom's car, hit him on his motorcycle. Colvin also died in a motorcycle accident. Nichols died from injuries sustained from jumping off the Hermosa Pier. When Jason Thirsk died, the live lyrics were changed to commemorate his death. They are frequently changed, at live events, to pay tribute to other friends upon their deaths...

Classic skate punk song. Another southern California punk band. Punk rock is big in California. Brad is correct. You hear this chant at sport events. Like Soccer, (worldwide), NFL (American football), NBA (basketball), MLB (baseball), hockey, college football, basebal, basketball, hockey, etc. And at bars, frat parties, and clubs. Lot of punk songs are at sporting events, bars, frat parties, and clubs due to the catchy anthem like chants. lol Yes, it's a brotherhood song and also dedicated tribute to lost lives of friends, family. Yall should have watched the video and longer version. This is the shorter version of the song. Many good songs from Pennywise from the '90s and '00s. Kind of melodic hardcore punk metal at times, too.

Yeah, this is just a classic. Can still remember them finishing their NYE gig some 26-27 years ago at the Falls Festival. Entire crowd singing along. Incredible. Don't know how many times I've seen them again since, but this is always a crowd favorite.
