RIP Steve Strange

Visage was phenomenal back then. Steve Strange vocals, Midge Ure (Ultravox), John McGeoch (Siouxsie & The Banshees/Magazine), Billy Currie (Ultravox), Dave Formula (Magazine) and Rusty Egan. Steve Strange walked behind David Bowie in the Ashes To Ashes video.

My favourite version the 1981 special extended remix 14:23 long.

The whole album was superb. And was very much a trial run for what Egan and Ure went on to do with Ultravox.

This came from the start of Londons new romantic scene which drove a lot of the new electronic pop music of the late 70s' and early 80's. Steve Strange, the guy in the video and a dj called Rusty Egan used to play a lot of Bowie and Roxy Music and added a lot of German electronic music influenced by Kraftwork. Ultravox, Japan, Adam and the Ants, Depeche Mode, OMD, Gary Numan and many more can have their roots placed here.

New wave, post punk, alternative and Goth clubs. 🌖 Sounds dark and moody like darkwave music.

Try Ladyshave by Fad Gadget for a "moody club song".

This track was not about dancing! This was part of a statement of how European electronic music was changing the charts. Bands like Propaganda, Kraftwerk etc were bands that were just as much about style, fashion, politics as well as dancing

The French lyrics are the same as the English bits.

Typical of the avant-garde atmospheric and moody synth-pop of the early 80's, the influence of Midge Ure is easy to see here. There is a similar vibe to Ultravox's iconic "Vienna", released just a few months later (Jan 1981). Fade to grey ... is this a reference to depression, falling from favour and the spotlight or simply to getting older ...? 🤔

Kind of what the Blitz Club was, though, right? Not a dungeon but a club to listen to songs... LOL

Everytime I see these reaction stuff I think these people who must live behind the moon in complete darkness and loneliness. This guy here never heard Fade to Grey, or Depeche Mode, or Rammstein, or Manowar. What about Shakespere? Was a great painter. Or da Vinci with his gorgeous operas. *facepalm.
