I'm here because I've JUST found AnnenMayKantereit & can't get enough of them. It was some random RU-vid short clip by the lead singer Henning May (the guy with the AMAZING raspy voice) that caught my attention. I first listened to the English covers, but tried the German songs, too - and BOY were they great or what!!! I don't speak German but I understand some words & phrases, but honestly; that is not even important when you dive into their music. Henning May has got that superstar aura around him, and his way of singing just takes you away somewhere. I've listened to their songs for about two weeks now, and haven't found a bad one yet. It's kind of a mixture of bluesy rock, a hint of jazz, the best parts of indie pop & surprisingly, some r&b too. Oh, and just hauntingly beautiful ballads. I had to order their record from Germany because they didn't have any here in our record stores. I strongly recommend some of their German songs, but it's hard to choose because they're all so different, but equally good. Annenmaykantereit were founded 2011 and formed their band name out of the last names of the 3 band members Christoph Annen, Henning May and Severin Kantereit. Their starts as street musicians and had with 'Pocahontas' their first hit in germany around 2016.
AnnenMayKantereit did a concert in Berlin in 2019. Giant Rooks were their supporting band. After that concert they did this jamming session and I love the result! I know the location from the video because we stayed there years before ... With you, didn't know either of them. Not really impressed with AnnenMK but Giant Rooks have a good sound I like. Listened to a couple songs by both bands.
