David Pots you are my favorite guitar teacher on RU-vid. I'm in my mid-30s, started to learn playing guitar about a year ago and I'm making decent progress! Your videos have helped a ton because you break down the songs in manageable sections and you explain clearly how to play. Also, your taste in music is similar to mine. Just wanted to say thank you, sir. It's been great, and I'm looking forward to learning many more tunes from your channel. My wife just loves the tunes I play these days
I like to do this in standard tuning with a capo at 2nd fret across just the first five strings. This gives a drop D effect while also allowing you to play the standard G. I think it makes it a Drop E sound which suits my voice, win, win. Learned this trick doing Steve Earle’s Copperhead Road.
Good tutorial thanks. In my opinion don't bother learning this in standard tuning. No one on earth plays this piece like this. It was written in drop-D because it sounds vastly better that way.
does anyone know where to find the riff that Jason plays towards the end when he performs this song live? I saw him play in KC a couple weeks back, and now I need to learn that part
Thank you for all work you put in this lessons, you helped me so much. 😀 Kinda fell bad for asking but will you do more nirvana lessons (polly or dumb, etc.).
just found ur channel today, its rlly good for learning and i wanted to thank u for all the tabs and stuff ur just giving out for everyone! Great videos, keep it up! :)
Absolutely amazing song. So I do have a question then. When in drop D tuning is the slide on the 5 string (A) is that optional? Or I'm I just playing it wrong? Otherwise I self taught myself the beginning of this song. I'm a huge fan of Morgan Wallen and this is my favorite song to play of Morgan's. But I am not a fan of Isbell.
i think it’s because very few people even know who jason isbell is. morgan wallen is the person who brought light to the song for the younger generation
those filler riffs are wrong its just hammering on 0 2 on 5th strig then open on 4th then back into the reg ppsrts but all of rest of dong is spot on great job maybe even show them fillers like that after showing them the right way give em options to b differnt and gives them ideas for other songs too...oh crap i just realized this sint morgan wallens version ...i like it better and lost respect for isbell after his continuos bashing on wallen out of jealousy i think but its unprofetional and just hypocritican knowing how bad off he was at one point ..kinda like oh im better than even tho i was an addict for years u know ;;;;;curious to see the rest of this lesson thnks for doing it right so any self proclaimed song teachers on youtube dont even know the songs right they try to teach its discusting to me to lead people the wrong way from the start forcing them to find out later and correct bad habbits built by these guys that either play it wrong or cant play it themselves barely but r supposed to b teaching someone else ...its like ,, get ti right first then do the vid so they r learning right the first time and not being used and clickbaited to gain subs when they need a teacher themselves like this country song teacher youtube guy he plays most of the songs wrong and cant play them very good himself ..practice and know its right or ur really a country ill kinda wing it and probly show u wrong teacher ..lol thanks tho ill check ut ur channel too good luck
Why do you have Morgan Wallen's name anywhere on this video? Did he write the song? No. Did he originally perform the song? No. This is a very intimate and personal song written by Jason Isbell to his wife for not leaving him and standing by him as he got clean.
