Austin City Limits has once again gobsmacked me with an artist that inexplicably had escaped my laser-sighted hunger for massive, earth -shattering talent. I have now viewed this wonderful hour more than a dozen times and watched him grow up on RU-vid. Rather than cry over all the years of Rufus missed, I am feeling so grateful for this new angel in my life.
I feel the same exact way. Somehow the magical RU-vid gods sent “Going to a Town” to my feed and my 70-year-old life was instantly changed. We have tickets to see him perform in LA in March, and I am so excited!
Same same (as they say in SEAsia and likely elsewhere). I just came across him singing Suzanne and have been searching RU-vid for more of what I have inexplicably missed.
I felt exactly the same when I discovered Rufus about 13 years ago. For me it was George Michael in Paris singing Going to a Town. The song and it's unique structure blew me away , not to mention George's delivery y. I couldn't understand how I had missed him at the end of the nineties. Bit like Jeff Buckley, a contemporary obs. I would have loved to have seen him live. But Rufus is a link to them all and I've seen him live 5 times and can only be grateful for the impact his work has had. I am a major sufferer of mental health problems and, call me crazy, lol, but I feel like every time I hear him, my soul is eased. What a gift. Thank you Rufus x
There are no words! I absolutely love this man- his voice, his expressions, his compositions, everything! Can’t believe I didn’t discover him all these years ago , but now I’m making up for it! I first happened to come upon him singing New York State of Mind for the Billy Joel Kennedy Center Honors- superb! ♥️🎶
This sounds like classic Rufus Wainwright to me. He looks like classic Rufus! I think it’d be more difficult to do ACL without a live audience, I think he should be invited back for a live session. All performers feed off the audience and while I do think this is really good performance, I’ve seen when he feeds off a responsive audience & he is off the charts. There is no one like Rufus Wainwright. Look for his live duet with Brandi Carlyle.
