Think I have a great idea for a video, Roland Wave Expansion Piano packs and cloud/zen account... Does the quality of these pianos worth it and what can you actually fit on the Fp-E50? Doing some research it seems that the E50 can actually load samples, thats crazy condiering the price... I believe a lot people will be interested in these info and if what Roland offers is worth the extra money.

That is a very cool idea! It is exciting to see what Roland is doing with their Roland Cloud and Zen-Core technology. It will interesting to see how far they take the platform! :)

I got FP30X couple weeks ago. Should I have got this? I don't really have any problem with mine but this looks a little better.
@MerriamPianos
@MerriamPianos Год назад
The core piano experience between the FP30X and FP-E50 is virtually the same (PHA4 action and SuperNATURAL Piano tone engine). The FP-E50 is a just more rich in features. So, if you are mainly just using the piano for piano practice, you won't necessarily miss too much. Hope this helps! :)

Bought mine after watching Stu - then discovered after I bought it that it doesnt implements GM2 playback so I am now using my 20 year old casio keyboard to provide my midi backing tracks. Audio out of casio into the E50 sorts it all out but why Roland !!!!!!!
@MerriamPianos
@MerriamPianos 2 месяца назад
That is an interesting choice that they did not include GM2 playback with this model. But, I am happy to hear that you found a workaround! :)

How do you tell apart the sound engines? Are just the "SN" voices from Supernatural? What do "PR" and "CM" mean?
@MerriamPianos
@MerriamPianos 11 месяцев назад
Yes - the "SN" stands for SuperNATURAL. With that said, I don't believe Roland explains what "CM" and "PR" stand for in their literature. Perhaps, "CM" stands for combination sounds. I am not sure what "PR" stands for.

I am not too familiar with the nuances of VFM sounds, but I will say that the FP-E50 and PXS7000 both have extremely extensive sound banks with nearly any sound that you could imagine.

Great review and walk through!😁 I just bought this piano, a question here, when it’s in split/dual mode, if I press “sync start”, the style doesn’t wait until I play a chord in the lower part, instead it start as long as I press a key anywhere, is that normal or is there some settings that can change this? Anyone knows🤔

Thanks so much! We're glad you enjoyed it! Congrats on your new FP-E50! It is a wonderful piano with a boatload of fun features. I am not at the showroom right now, so I can't sit down in front of the FP-E50 to help troubleshoot, but, perhaps, one of our helpful FP-E50 users/community members here can chime in with an answer. :)

@MerriamPianos
@MerriamPianos Год назад
It comes down to a matter of personal preference of course. I would say that the FP-E50 is definitely more robust in terms of arranger functionality and the ZEN-Core engine offers quite the wide sonic palette.

Ok thanks, But, does the Piano tone sound better than the casio in person, because the audio we hear on RU-vid videos is much different in person.

Hey I just bought this piano and in the span of just 1 week several keys have started making this clicking sound, after some research it seems to be some displacement of the lube under the keys doing this, I have already ordered a new piano to replace this one as this defect is unnacceptable for a 1400$ CAD keyboard but im starting to wonder if the new one will have the same issue since it seems to progressively get worse the more I play (more keys start making the clicking sound over time) I checked with my store and they have sold just under 300 but across all branches so couldnt tell me if they had a number of complaints about this or not and I also have to assume that some people probably just didnt notice or play enough yet to have the problem surface. It's a shame because after trying out several keyboards even some over 10 000$, the sounds on the FP-E50 are absolutely incredible and blow everything else out of the water I just really hope I got a dud and that the next piano I receive will be free of this defect.
@MerriamPianos
@MerriamPianos 9 месяцев назад
Hi! Brent from Merriam Music here! Thanks for writing in. I'm sorry to hear that you have experienced some clicking keys issues with your FP-E50. While I have read about this concern, we have not personally experienced this issue with our floor units and customer units. In fact, after doing an assessment of warranty claims on PHA4 models, the warranty claim rate was exceptionally low! For instance, the FP30X pianos that we sold over a span of two years had a warranty claim rate of 1.2%. That is exceedingly low! Given that the FP-E50 is a new model, we don't quite have enough data just yet, but, so far, it seems to be just as reliable as the FP30X. I hope your new unit does not have these issues and you are able to enjoy all of the amazing features that the FP-E50 offers! :)

hi, can you tell me how to set Fp-e50 into real accoustic piano mode w/o another feature? thanks

@MerriamPianos Год назад
Hi there! The default piano sound on the FP-E50 is their SuperNATURAL concert grand piano, which is their primary acoustic piano sound. It is actually the default sound when you turn the instrument on.

Hi. Excellent tutorial. A question for you. Can I mute some accompaniment tracks? Can I leave only drum and bass in the accompaniment section? Thanks.
@MerriamPianos

Hi! Brent here! You can actually isolate the drum and bass only in the accompaniment section. This can be done by using the assignable function for the wheels to control the volume of the various accompaniment elements.

Compared to others Yamaha DGX - 670 Pros - 4 style variations/ better style programs/ reads PSR style files with 4 variations ( there are thousands if free styles) Can write user styles/ more realistic and musical styles that can be used/ can play midi files ( Roland can not) 40 plus Super Articulation sounds ( best nylon/ acoustic guitars / saxes, etc that Roland or Casio can’t touch) Will read midi files ( including Roland ‘s GS and Yamaha’s XG files). Remember most pro GM files are written in GS format) Has 16 track sequencer Cons- 47 pounds/heavy/ bulky/ GHS keys ( not as good as Roland) . Not gig worthy ( screaming “amateur keyboard)/ no vocal harmony / no modulation wheel/ only headphone out/ no separate LR outs Korg XE- 20 Light weight( 25 Ibs)/ terrible key touch and response/ PA80 arranger styles/ will read SMF/ Wav/ Mp3 files but poorly designed for live playback. No joystick/ pitch bend/ mod wheel/ PA 80 arranger styles means 2 fills and jumpy fills / no style writing/ has basic sequencer Roland FP- E50 Pros - great key feel/ individual weights ( key response not as fast as Yamaha’s GHS for fast notes runs due to escapement mechanics for certain patches but great for piano tones - better piano tones ( than Yamaha or Casio) - pro looking keyboard on stage ( well designed/ no speakers on top or front) -individual LR outs - Vocal harmony - 37 pounds ( lightest pro feel/looking arranger with build in speakers) - blue tooth midi and audio - chord sequencer Cons- Can’t read or write midi files ( only Wav files) . That means you can’t play pre sequenced general midi files with VH data) - other sounds ( non super natural tones)are good enough but not great ( especially saxes/ guitars still has Juno Di / Ds quality) . Not super articulation quality - arranger feature is afterthought and style are poorly written ( limitations start to appear if you are One Man Band / solo performer) - 2 style variations means 1990 era backing with improved sounds ( you will not be able to load even BK3 styles which has 4 variations) Overall verdict- There is no competition in the market.great if you need one keyboard that has 88 keys and pro piano sounds and other acceptable sounds with manageable weight that has pitch/ mod wheels . Looks great as well. For OMB players;You just have to load wav files and play and sing on top while using real time harmony by pressing chords in real time Unfortunate for Casio. Which is still not considered as “pro” looking/ considered KB on stage ( regardless how they improved with the sounds, etc, the stigma is still there). It may take a decade and multiple endorsements.“

Thanks for tuning in and sharing your insights and thoughts on these various arranger-style instruments. At the end of the day, the "best" instrument is the one that a specific player connects with the most. Every player will gravitate towards a different touch, tone, feature offering, and aesthetic. For me, the Roland FP-E50 is the star of this particular category/price point due to its lightweight design, impressive feature offering, and excellent core piano experience. But, it is all a matter of personal preference! :)

This is unrelated, but does anyone know what is the action on the Kawai CP67? Bin playing it a lot lately. I like that the keys have a firm landing, and do not have a rubbery bouncy feeling when they hit the bottom of the keybed🎹🎶

AHA-IV as in Advanced Hammer Action IV (as in 4). There was a more recent version AHA-IVF in models like KDP90 and ES100, but Kawai has moved to other action designs.

Hi! Brent here! It is a matter of personal preference of course. The Roland's PHA4 action is heavier and has escapement, which I feel is a bit more authentic. But, many players prefer the lighter touch of the ES120's RHC action.

Oh - my apologies! I understand the question now. I believe it is possible. However, you may need to do a work around in which you structure things in two beat measure (2/4 time). I am not in front of the FP-E50 at the moment, so I can't confirm. Thanks for the question! I tried this e50 in a music store today and I must say that the sound of his piano is not even close to the sound in various videos. The sound from the built-in speakers and headphones is muffled, with a lot of lower mids. All settings were default, the equalizer was also default. I tried to change the modes "table", "stand" but it did not help much - the sound is either deaf, or oversaturated with high frequencies and also deaf on the bottom. I don't understand what it is.

I am sorry to hear that you weren't fully-impressed with the FP-E50's sound via the onboard speakers. While the onboard speakers aren't the focal point of this model by any means, I personally found them to be sufficient and comparable sonically with the FP30X. With that said, the pure capture of the tone direct from the tone engine via line outs will always be a clearer and more detailed representation.
@KARHUGAMECHANNEL
@KARHUGAMECHANNEL Год назад
@@MerriamPianos but i need onboard speakers. And sound in earphones is very bad too for me. I'll test it one more time in some of next days, maybe it's some kind of broke in there. Also i've checked yamaha dgx 670 but its keyboard is kind of "viscous"... Yamaha p125 - same keys but so few sounds. As I did not expect - most of all I liked the sound of Casio 1100 pianos, Especially bright piano but its keys are very loud. Roland's keyboard is really great, but those awful sounds... I'll try to figure out what's wrong.
@MerriamPianos
@MerriamPianos Год назад
@@KARHUGAMECHANNEL I think if the goal is top possible onboard speaker quality, you need to be looking at a piano with upper-facing speakers, such as the FP60x. Nearly all down-facing keyboards suffer from some lack of high-end definition, no different than if you were trying to listen to home speakers by standing behind them. The FP60x and 90x solve this, as does the Casio 1100 / 3100 / 5000 / 6000 / 7000 (which face speakers out the back, so 90 degrees closer to the ideal), or the Kawai ES520 / ES920. You already mentioned the Yamaha's with the upper facing speakers (DGX670 / P125), so it's not a huge set of possibilities in the marketplace. Separately though, it's odd that even the headphone output for you was different than some of the videos, since at least in our case, when we're sampling line-out sounds we don't affect them in anyway, so it should be the same signal as headphone output. Good luck with your search - sound is such a personal thing, so we appreciate how tricky it can be to get it right! - Stu

@@MerriamPianos thank you, Stu. I tried 60x, but don't like its sound too. I try to find kawai 110, 120 but they are only in internet shops, not in showrooms. Also I want to try kawai es8, 520.. Or maybe I just need to forget about on-board speaker and look at totally different categories include different price kategory like fantom 0, Korg krome, kronos.

Hi there! I'm sorry you are experiencing issues with your FP-E50. To be honest, I have never seen this particular issue, so I do not have any insights as to how it could be corrected. I would recommend having a Roland certified tech check out the piano to help triage and resolve the issue.

There are a variety of options on the accompaniment side of things. If I recall correctly, you are able to strip things down to just drum and bass tracks.
