Hello CaveMan [ CaveMan Paradigm ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, and Marco Hietala, bassist and singer, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). You have met the Valkyrie Goddess that is Floor Jansen. Rarely does such beauty and talent intertwine . Any performance from 2013 Wakken is gold. I would recommend Storytime, then Ghost Love Score. Ghost love score is an EPIC SCORE, not a regular song. It does however showcase alot of her range. Great video man, can't wait for more.

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on RU-vid. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered RU-vid in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turns 7 years next march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

Who is this guy? Thank you for asking and what an lovely reaction! That guitarist dude is Emppu Vuorinen, one of the the two original members of the Nightwish still playing. He is so good, that as an humble Finn, he even don´t have to show it. :) He´s doing what composer/childhood friend Tuomas Holopainen throws at him and whats needed. Sometimes he is very low key, but still doing excellent work at background. And sometimes he is really shredding - but even then with always great tune and emotions. And he is SO funny, active and interactive in live gigs, absolute pleasure to both listen and watch.

A nice simple metal Nightwish song to start from. There are some outstanding songs and live performances especially since Floor Jansen joined mid-tour in late 2012 with only 48 hours to learn the setlist travelling from The Netherlands to the USA. She is probably the best singer out there having recorded a recent solo album, Paragon in a different genre. And she covered various songs during Covid lockdown and guested with numerous other artists.

She is absolutely enchanting. I think that is the perfect word to sum up all that she is. Enchanting. But don't be fooled, shes tough as nails. She did cancer and a baby within a year and got back to work. Absolutely rock hard. She'd throw a grown man straight through a wall.

Glad you decided to react to this band,This is with their 3rd singer Floor Jansen,a 6’1” Dutch vocal beast..They’re definitely a band that are better live,their studio stuff is good but it’s their live performances where they shine…they go from operatic though to rock,folk,Celtic and on to thrash and everything in between,hope you decide to dip your toe into some more..if you do then definitely use Gabriel’s list as it has the best quality videos performance and audio wise… And you’re right,she’s a tall,buff,beautiful woman with the voice of an angel.

This is not heavy metal, it is heavenly metal although some people call it symphonic metal. The keyboardist (Tuomas Holopainen aka Metal Mozart) is the genius behind this band. The physical reactions you showed when hearing the singer (Floor Jansen aka the Valkyrie goddess) are called Floorgasms, don't worry the word is derived from the term eargasm not orgasm :-) But when googling, things do not seem to be that easy: “It’s very likely that the erectile tissues in your ears engorge.” This means that “eargasms” may come in response to swelling in the ear canal the doctor described as “ear boners.” 😝

Good one, can't go wrong with Nightwish/Floor. Those are long perfectley formed legs, she's 6'1'' I think those are 4'' heels so she is close to 6' 6'' on stage. Try any other song same show Story Time, Ever Dream, Song Of Myself etc. Then just keep going, not sure you can handle it but also take a look at then in Buenos Aires I'm sure you'll enjoy Floors outfit and the singing/band lol. The whole show as usual is excellent maybe try I Want My Tears Back.

No worries Caveman, legions of male and female fans are enchanted and bewitched by Floor Jansen the Dutch queen of symphonic metal. She is married to Hans Van Dahl the drummer from the Swedish band "Sabaton". I am guessing we may see you again very soon? Floor is so much more than a beautiful woman. She is a world class vocalist capable of every technique from Operatic soprano to guttural growls. Every color of the rainbow. Floor doesn't do much of the growling technique with Nightwish. This was one of the heavier and more aggressive songs. Nightwish is quite varied in their compositions, main created by Tuomas (keys). He is heavily influenced by movie soundtracks, beautiful vocal melodies, and even a little Metallica. Lead singer Floor Jansen is quite laid back in the real world. She's Dutch by birth but speaks English fluently.
