🏡August Garden Checklist😎👨‍🌾 - This is my August garden and landscape checklist video. I have done one of these every month in 2020. This is number 8. A lot more planning than working in the dog days of summer.

Can you do a video elaborating how the beneficial bugs catch up to the bad ones and not to pesticide? Basically covering when to and when to stop. Maybe you have one already I don’t know lol

Love the Monthly checklist videos-they are always packed with info-give the birds water if it's dry and they will tend to leave tomatoes alone-always had a problem with Cardinals and Mockingbirds spearing my tomatoes until I put out a water source for them. Seems to help! zone 7a TN.

We're taking out a damaged poplar this weekend, it will change our sun/shade around the front porch & I have plans to bring in soil for a vegetable garden this fall to get ready for next year. I've had to grow in 30 gallon pots this year, have done ok but limited my abilities & made for lots of watering. I'm in N. Georgia, soil will def be better brought in & slightly raised. Thanks for all your info Jim, looking forward to next year! Getting a little rain & heat is better this morning. Afternoons are still brutal!

Thanks for another great monthly checklist. I'm terrible I actually plant alot of perrenials in August because this is the time of year after the summer perrenials start growing I can see any empty spots. Plus I like to get the clearance plants. They usually survive and thrive. Your garden looks amazing. So vibrant and so many different textures! I'm so glad you always talk about pesticides. I think the less we do the less the pest problem becomes. My only pest experience in 9 years has been aphids and only on my 3 yr old milkweed. I just squish them or spray them with water. This year I had tons of lady bug larvae who must have taken care of the aphids because I only seen a few.👍

You have improved my landscaping so much! If I want to add raised islands to my yard for visual interest.... do you have an opinion on the smallest size that is feasible to plant.....like 18" or 24"?
@JimPutnam
@JimPutnam 4 года назад
It would depend on what you wanted to plant in them. Shrubs and trees need as much room as you can give them. Seasonal planting could take much smaller spaces

At 2:02 you talk about getting rid of diseased plants. I understand they don’t go in yard waste or compost but where do they go? Trash? I don’t know about other options. Thanks!

2nd! Jim, what are your thoughts about transplanting potted plants into the ground in mid August? I heard Mandevilla is very sensitive when temperatures go below 50F. Which means I need to bring it indoors during winter time. I also have a Tropical Hibiscus, not sure which type but it has lush green leaves and produces big bright red/orange flowers. Bought it a few months ago and it has grown quite a bit to 16" tall. I am tempted to just pop it in the ground over winter and see what happens. I am in zone 8a Dallas, TX.
@JimPutnam
@JimPutnam 4 года назад
Those tropicals can go in the ground, bit they won't be hardy in zone 8. Those are zone 10 perennials. You can bring them in and out during the winter.
