Love your videos sweetie! Thanks for the hard work! Love Olenna as character and will miss her terribly. I absolutely adore the embroidery art of Michelle Carragher! I sent her pictures of the Cersei doll I made and she liked it. I was so happy. :)
Thanks so much! I didn't know that you had contacted Michele Carragher! Was that through her website? That's amazing that's she responded! Your work is so beautiful.
Thank you sweetie - I love creating these dolls! I have her on my friends list on Facebook for a while and she wrote me a pm to wish me Happy Birthday and we chatted a bit back and forth - that was about a week before I finished Cersei so I sent her a few pics. She was impressed and I thanked her and told her that it means much to me to have her approval. :)
Diana Rigg is a delight. Her career began as a pretty face who blossomed into a magnificent senior. My compliments to the costumers who gave her splendor with regard to her comfort. And my compliments to the actress whose performance was so engaging that I never thought to look at her gown.
@@Costume_CO She really, reeeally was. As soon as I heard the news I thought of your costume video for her. I haven't commented about Chadwick on the Black Panther videos yet. That one hurts even more. Diana did so much. Chadwick had so much more to share with us.
Olenna was my favorite character. She reminded me my old friend Peggy, a 70 yr wealthy widow, who passed away years ago. Peggy also came from money, married into money & wasn't afraid to speak her mind. Funny enough she always wore blue and gold dress with elaborate yet tasteful jewelry.
You said that she moves away from her house colours by wearing more golden tones but I think that’s actually the opposite and she’s moving more towards her house colours because gold IS one of her house colours, along with green
An unforgettable design, it honestly colored my perception of Olenna while reading the books, I can't help but imagine her with that headpiece now. Honestly I found the women costumes in GOT are more often a miss than an hit (unlike the men ones) but hers were truly inspired and great.
Olenna! The Sophia Pertrillo of Westeros. I love her. & as far as costumes go i loved hers & how they contrasted with Margerys more revealing costumes. I do wish Michelle Clapton had used more greens with them instead of going blue tho.
Yeah, me too. Margaery wears one outfit with that beautiful vivid green very early on in season two when she's married Renly. Clapton has never stated why she did this so we can only speculate. Maybe the red and green would look like Christmas?
@@caligulalonghbottom2629 didnt think of that. You're probably right. Haven't seen much true green at all in the show & i know in Black Panther they had used blue screen because nakia would be in green throughout the movie
I think like the pattern of her jacket is like a basket for wine since she is originally a member of house Rothweyn from the Arbor which holds up great vineyards
I was always curious about the wimple. The symbolism of her being more devout than she is is so interesting! I like the idea of her being influenced by the Dutch. So was the Iron Bank and they both have a lot of money. ;) "The teleporting Varys" Haha XD I agree. I like that she had the last word when she died.
The showrunners used the Dutch as inspiration for much of the design, especially Braavos. Yes, slipped that in about Varys, haha! Glad you picked it up. :) Thank you so much for commenting Emily!
Thanks for sharing all the beautiful details,. As someone who is older and slow moving I had vaguely thought that if I was to do cosplay I would try Olenna. Now I realize just how complicated that would be!
Thanks Ann! I saw a really great cosplay of an elderly woman in a wheelchair dressed as Olenna. It was amazing. I think you could do it no problem. I've seen patterns for medieval wimples on line. The skirt could even be a purchased tafetta Bridesmaid/Mother of the Bride so the hardest would be the jacket. I think McCalls has a pattern for something close.
You've mentioned a few times in your videos how drastically camera filters change the colors of the costumes - I'd love to hear in another episode how costume designers plan for this. Also two more suggestions for reviews: Orphan Black and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. Thanks for all the great videos!
Hi Jessica! Thank you so much for commenting! I don't know much about the colour processing. It's my understanding that it's done in post but I will see what I can dig up about it. Cheers, Heidi.
Excellent content and great links - thank you. I bumped into Diana Rigg once, pre GoT; she was having a cigarette (I can’t say it was a Marlboro Light though) in a very long fur coat around the back of Harrods.
That's very cool! One of my favourite shows with her (long after the Avengers) was Moll Flanders. She was just brilliant in that. Thank you so much for sharing.
Costume CO And now, you have just made me think...I haven’t seen the TV adaptation but read the book years ago....the end of which could have been the influence for Jamestown... I must check this out! Good costumes in that too and hats.
I haven't seen it for years either and I think I read the book around the same time. Funny thing when I was looking it up for some reason is that young Daniel Craig is in it playing the Highwayman.
Hello there, I absolutely love your work, it is so nice to have access to such documented videos about costumes. The Game of Thrones series is my favourite and I was wondering if you will ever do something about the costumes in Anne with an E? I would love to watch it. Regards
Rogier van der weyden? dutch? :D He was born in Tournai (french speaking) and worked in Brussels. he got that Dutch version of his original French name (de la pasture) later on by historians studying the Flemish Primitives. Flemish/Flanders is the North of Belgium, also Dutch speaking but with another dialect, bit like German and Swiss German
Love all the time and research you put into the videos! Sorry i havent been watching as much as i used to, but college and work take up 90% of my time now! Cant wait to see what you put up next! You should consider watching the crown!
Hi Robert! So nice to see a comment from you, you were (are) one of my earliest viewers. I haven't seen the Crown yet but (as you know) I love Michele Clapton.
In the Sound of Music sound track there is the line "underneath her wimple she has curlers in her hair, Maria's not an asset to the Abbey." That's the pop culture tie-in I flash to.
YAAAAAAAASSSSS!!!!!!! QUEEN OF THORNS 4 DA WIN!!!!!!!! God, I miss her and her verbal badassitude. CONE BACK, DIANA RIGGS!!!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭 PS: I have a new GoT costume design for Dany. Want me to send it to ya?
Hi Tatiana, Thank you so much for coming into the livestream last night. I'd love to see your latest design. I never did get that other one of Dany. Did you try to email it to me already? PS. I miss Olenna I will be very sad next season not to see her.
Costume CO Last night's streaming was really fun! I love discussing things like movies and tv shows! I often have strong opinions if I get pumped enough. No, I didn't send it to you. Got caught up working on my GoT inspired wedding dress design. I forgot you were doing any Olenna video or I would've sent it to you sooner. Also, I'd love to have Olenna 's coat, specially the one in Sansa and Tyrion's wedding. Those costs with some ankle jeans or trousers and heels? Ready for the BAFTAs!
