My friend Dave gave me a rough-turned Plum bowl he had done to help it with the drying process. I seldom turn round bowls so this was kind of a treat! Finished in shellac.

Hey Phil, Today's the day I replace all of the old wiring on the boat and prep the boat to make it ready for the water. Add three new boat seats, a new depth/fish finder and some small odds and ends. I added a new and larger water output than the older bilge pump. I already replaced all the regular wood with composite material that is rot. mold, mildew, fungus, and waterproof. The fish are already biting like wildfire, and I have already been catching fish off the boat dock. Your works using plum, and every other woods you use, always turn out very nice, especially the live edge bowls that I love the most. Oh, and a new deep cycle battery for the trolling motor. The old boat should be back on the water inside a week if the weather stays rain free for the next few days.

This is way to cool Phil. Thinking back I was supposed to meet with you at Dave's house back then but we were headed north for a motorhome trip to Canada. When I got back I did drive over and met with Dave and he sent me home with two once turned pieces of the same wood. I was kind of sad that I was not able to meet you that day but a year or so later on another trip up your way I met you and came home with some great memories and some Olive wood. Here is something else that is odd tomorrow my turning will be from a chunk of wood Dave gave me. It might have been when he was up here or when we were passing by his place on the way to Beverly Beach. Not sure but all are great memories. Oh and your turning looks great and it was so cool that knot fell out. Thanks for this video it was nice thinking back on those days. Gary

I can't say I have ever seen you finish a bowl that someone else had rough formed so it was a pleasant surprise. It did not look all that inviting when you first showed it but as you worked it into a finished bowl you could start to see the real worth of it. After the knot popped out it became a more 'Phil like turning' & the finished you achieved made the whole project 'pop' & become worthwhile. Great job mate. Cheers, Don from South Aust.

In the "Olde Days" we would have made that knot hole on the brim a place to hold your cigarette-- Viola! A plum ash tray. Nobody makes ash trays any more. I can remember ash trays as a viable Junior High woodshop project for a kid to give to his dad. Those days are gone, I guess.... Unless they get made to park your dad's spliff or his blunt, but we're not there yet.

Love the redo Phil, plumb loves to move, particularly like the Bevel edge, when mentoring never turners, we suggest the bevel is approximately 90 deg angle to the top of the outside edge, like you have said its adds a little extra dimension to an ordinary bowl, totally optional but must seem to like the concept. Absolutely love your finishes whatever the exquisite shapes you turn, finish is the golden extra . Kind regards George

Well Phil, definitely an unlike Phil bowl. Nice to see you turn something more normal than you usually do. Most of your bowls are “screw whacky “ in some form or not. Glad to see you found something SW with this bowl as well. The wood is very light colour without a lot of grain showing, very unlike plum, more like peach in colour. Both prunus though. I'm thinking that Dave started on that bowl, got to the knot hole, and thought, "this needs to be in Phil's hands". It came out beautifully. As you were turning off the tenon and the little nub I realized that it's always a tense moment for me, kind of like the landing part of flying. I'm afraid the piece is going to unexpectedly crash! Have you ever had a piece crash at that point? Thank you, Phil 😊

😂 No, that's not exactly what I was thinkin' at the time. As usual, I had taken a lot more of that tree than I ought to have. I'd seen other RU-vid turners trading green-turned roughed bowls and thought it might be fun. Knots don't bother me.

Just another example Phil shows his talents to us. When someone else starts a project you know how to really make it beautiful again. This twice turned bowl is just stunning. Thanks for showing us this project and a lesson in twice turning of a bowl for all of us to view. KEEP ON TURNING

Can turn down free plum wood, and it turned beautifully. The knot accident was a plus to add a natural feature to the edge....

Nice work, as usual! I watch all you turning videos, not only because you do fine work, but also for your commentary. I do watch a lot of turning videos, but the ones that are wordless turnings, I put the speed on 2x just to watch for new things to try. Your thoughts and ramblings really are important, least to me. Example, talking about the beveled edge on the bowl, that info is priceless. Thank you Phil.

Very nice Phil... I'm still learning and re-turned my first bowl a week ago. The piece was from a very spalted 200 year old Hackberry tree that came down on my property a year ago. I had many pieces blow up as I tried turning bowls from this tree . After losing several, I kept a couple thick{er} so I could try to re-turn at a later date, hoping the wood would harden some. Me being new to turning and only having carbide tools is a challenge, but people like you make me want to push the limits! Thanks for the vids you put out!

It’s always nice to see older generation, showing newer generations how they did it. I appreciate it as I am a younger version. Just starting to turn.

The feeling is mutual going the other way, John. We love seeing the younger folks get interested in the same things! It seems kind of rare these days. Thanks for watching! 😊
