Whewww how do you serve under, glean from and love someone who tries to kill you, compete with you and sabotage you!??? I think David had a respect and honor for Saul out his love and desire to please God. It wasn't even about Saul. It was about what Saul position represented in the order that which is holy and sacred to God. The seat of King is not to be taken lightly and I think that David understood that.
