@@kelvinletts8886 honestly, I feel like Volvo should pay me ...lol At 57, obviously, I've own many cars...This one, is just fun to drive... while it is the baby of the bunch in the Volvo SUV group, I would not buy either of the other two. XC90 is too big for the city, the other one (XC 60) is just missing the "it" for me. At the end of all my trips, no matter where i'm going.. feels like at a ride at the carnaval when it is over...(for all 8 months I've own my R-design).

.......... this doesn't accurately reflect how the XC40 looks at night! in the interior, you gotta see it in person! it's AWESOME! the interior looks very mature and not like a nightclub like other cars
It seems like you completely missed talking about the different colors of illumination. At 9:30 you point out the small light projecting down. That light, along with the other two in the rear sides can change colors. Unfortunately, it's no where near the coolness of other manufacturers interior ambient lighting systems, but it does provide some change. It would be nice if the lighting on the wood in the dash and door panels changed with the ceiling lights.
Great video. Very few reviewers go to this trouble. Please keep this up. 👍👍 Light design plays a huge part of my love with cars but few get it just right. Come on Volvo. Old style bulbs for rear turn signals? Really? Even BMW are coming into this century on the X1 now! I’m almost certainly getting one of these in place of my X1 and think it ruins the look. Imo it cheapens what is otherwise a perfect car. EDIT:-: The brake lights in the cluster, i.e. not the high line light, are actually bulbs. Just ordered my Inscription Pro and a little disappointed tbh.
Great review Mike please keep it going I would expect more from Volvo in this modern day it's a shame that this car doesn't come near to the Mercedes for interior ambient lighting other than that Volvo is blowing the competition away in this class

Writer is looking between 2 vehicles, xc60 or a xc40. Leaning towards xc40, am looking 4 a small suv. I have a s60 cross country now. No car 🚘 gurus ever did a nightime review on lights/lighting. This night-time review is awesome! Nobody else does that! The only problem I see is that the video is a bit too dark and noisy, even with my monitor at max brightness, maybe a camera with better low light capabilities could help?
Thank you for your feedback. I did some experimenting in this particular night video and it turned out too dark. Also RU-vid compression makes it 10 times worse than the original footage.
It was an excellent description of the lighting features for the 2020 XC-40. It would have been really helpful if you had spent some time explaining how to operate each lighting feature offered and the various headlight settings on the left hand wand. Looking at a dark interior for the vehicle was not helpful.
The XC40 is my 3rd volvo since the new styling... XC90, then XC60 R-Design and now the XC40 R-Design -- loaded. My question if anyone can answer -- WHY did they decide to use a regular bulb for the rear turn signal -- but everything else is LED? I know it's cheaper, BUT if you have LED everywhere else -- why not finish in LED.. and just give the turn signal that added touch. It's the only thing they really cheaped out on. other than a bit more areas of hard plastics than my XC90 or 60 had. Good trade off for what a Volvo can be fully loaded including the POLESTAR engine mapping option.
I appreciate this video but it's missing the one thing I was wondering about - adjusting the color of the interior ambience and mood lighting. I THINK this is a feature on the car but haven't been able to verify.

Good concept but the camera's night vision quality didn't convey the images quite well. Perhaps the latest Samsung Galaxy or iPhone could've done a better job! Good effort though 👍

Hey you didn’t say anything about the outside door handles lighting up at night. Does yours not do it? Cause the pervious XC40 do. Actually you didn’t even lock and unlock the Volvo. Can you let me know, cause I’m looking to purchase one.
