"Bygdøy alle" is a street on Frogner in Oslo _1,400 meters long _ that runs from "Solli plass" to "Sjølystveien" at the exit to Bygdøy. This street was planned in 1889 as a Parisian boulevard _ built in 1890 _ but the politicians thought it was too expensive, and reduced it to half the width. Only at "Frogner Church" can you see how wide it really was supposed to be.
"Bygdøy alle" is known for the large chestnut trees that adorn it, and the lower part in particular also represents the rapid urban development in Oslo with lavish and fashionable four-story brick courtyards and a number of good examples of Art Nouveau buildings.
