Notes on resetting your truck's computer ECM PCM ECU whatever you want to call it. Make sure you research how to properly reset your particular make and model because this method might differ depending. Make sure you research precisely how to reset and reprogram your systems. It varies from vehicle to vehicle.

For those always asking - Yes - try it on your vehicle. You won't 'hurt' anything by trying this. You will find out if this helps your 'problem' when you try it. I do this with EVERY older car I own. Now, this doesn't mean it will 'fix' every problem on every car (but it Might.) Just try it and report back.

My 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 was running very poorly, and a friend suggested I reset the truck's computer. I've never done this before, but it REALLY HELPED. The engine runs smoothly, and has lots of power. The computer was sending erroneous signals to the engine, causing misfiring and rough running.

Thanks for the reply on your other video! Made a subscriber outta me. Just replaced the O2 sensor and MAP sensor (TPS and VSS soon to get replaced also) and noticed my suburban idle searching for 2 days now. I disconnected the negative for a couple minutes after my swaps but, if anything, it just got worse. Gonna try this method out and if it comes to life closer to passing smog then you, sir, have earned yourself a beer 🍺
@HorsepowerHouse

Unfortunately, just disconnecting the battery does little to nothing to reset the computer. You have to kill the capacitors within the vehicle's computer in order to truly reset the thing. Otherwise all you've done is reset some radio stations on your stereo. You have to do it the proper way, and it will definitely reset the thing. I have done it on every vehicle I've owned in the past 5 years. And it helped every one of them. There is a Ford technician here on RU-vid that showed me this way. And it works every time - so look him up. Search 'Reset ECM or ECU or PCM' or whatever you want to call it. Now, it doesn't mean it will solve every problem in a vehicle. But if you have a strange issues that seem to be 'computer related', it's the ticket to get it sorted out.
@pedrorojascervantes3928
@pedrorojascervantes3928 3 года назад
There is a specific base idle adjustment / reset if you've replaced the TPS sensor. I would avoid bargain chinese electronic sensors & parts. There are some exceptions where you'll see Mexico stamped on it. Usually that means it's U.S. made & partial manufacture or final assembly is done in North America. Other wise just go with Delco unless you can bench test components before you install , which is not that difficult in most cases. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nJkPgkMpTFs.html

Any vehicle "can" benefit from resetting the computer. There are tons of videos on YT about it. I do it with any older car I own. Even my 2007 2008 model (both Ford cars) benefitted from it. call me crazy, but you probably need a professional mechanic. just throwing Parts at a vehicle is not the way to repair things. been there done that. even with this truck, after I replaced pretty much everything relating to Cooling system, and Air Conditioning system, the truck died 100 miles from home, and never ran again. and I replaced pretty much everything that would keep a vehicle from running. did not matter. sold the truck for $3,500, and was glad of it. see my other videos about this truck and you will see. talk about disappointing.

After many successful projects, fixes, improvements, etc (see my other videos) - this truck eventually left me stranded 80 miles from home - and never ran again. I checked and replaced everything that could prevent a vehicle from running - but No - it never ran again (I messed with it for 6 months trying to fix it). You wanna talk about frustration and disappointment? Don't get me started. Sold it for a puny (but thankful) $3500 a couple of years ago. (After putting way more than that into it.) I don't recommend 30-year old vehicles - especially as a daily-driver. Too many gremlins will pop up. These are more of a project, toy, play thing.... just being honest with you. Put your money to something newer and more dependable....

Took it to the builder and he’s stumped. He thinks the fuel air ratio is off or the fuel pump is leaning out. Will resetting the ecm ecu help it relearn after all the parts being replaced? Same truck, broke down, starter burnt up, finally got the right starter on after figuring out flex plate was 153 not 168. Engine was flooded with gas from a stick injector and from being stranded and trying to get it to start and trying to get starters to fit. Just filling the engine with excess fuel as I didn’t realize injector was stuck open. Removed gas from oil and engine and replaced ignition coil, distributer, cap, rotor, icm, plugs, wires as I had no spark. She’s running again like normal. But it’s blowing tons of white smoke out exhaust and smells of fuel, radiator is full and normal and oil isn’t milky. Injectors seem to be working as they should. Am I dealing with a ecm issue do you think? The truck always gave me issues starting in the heat which some say is attributed to ecm. Or do you think it’s the excess fuel being burnt off in oil? I changed oil twice already to try and get rid of all gas possible. Could it be possible carbon build up that broke off from gas being burnt up? Going to try this method of resetting ecm to see if it helps.
