SUSPENSE! "Life Ends At Midnight"
🎙️Brief synopsis:
Aired May 8, 1948
"Life Ends At Midnight" An unusual Mother's Day story. A bad boy returns home to Mom with a pressing need. The story was previously produced on "Suspense" on February 17, 1944 and subsequently on October 18, 1955. Walter Bates was home from Pittsburgh to see his Mother after six months but it wasn’t just to visit his dear old Mother, he was after $2000 in Bonds that his Father had left her, but she had already spent that money bailing him out of trouble in the past. Walter was in trouble to the tune of $1500 and had to get the money by midnight tonight so he could be on the 12:20 train back to Pittsburgh. What will the outcome be? Listen to find out!
🎙️About the Old Time Radio Show Suspense:
One of the premier drama programs of the Golden Age of Radio, Suspense was subtitled "radio's outstanding theater of thrills" and focused on suspense, thriller-type scripts, usually featuring leading Hollywood actors and actresses of the era. Approximately 945 episodes were broadcast during its long run, and more than 900 still exist.
Suspense went through several major phases, characterized by different hosts, sponsors, and director/producers. Formula plot devices were followed for all but a handful of episodes: the protagonist was usually a normal person suddenly dropped into a threatening or bizarre situation; solutions were "withheld until the last possible second," and evildoers were usually punished in the end.
