The Brazilian way is to first use a toothpick or a larger pick that they sell here specifically for nails, go around the nail as soon as you finished applying the nail polish on that nail, do one by one. Then rap a small cotton piece around the toothpick until it is very tight, dip it in the nail polish remover, and clean it up around the nail.
I use a very thin dotting tool to scrape off the wet polish if I go over like that. I have a cleanup brush if I need it after but usually that works. I don’t like to wait for it to dry before cleaning
@@BlueRoseFaery When you do your nails in a salon here they won't wait either, is just that if I don't, I will end up messing it up. I always end up touching one of the nails while cleaning it up.
Just what I was going to say! That’s the brazilian way ❤ but I think you can’t do it with gel polish, only regular polish. It’s fantastic because the nails look really neat after cleaning the excess
The Wet n Wild thin liner brush from the makeup section at Dollar Tree is my MVP. They're $1.25 each, they last for ages, the bristles are soft but the brush overall is firm. I bought four of them over a year ago I think and I just threw out my first one.
@@KelliMarissa Oh no! I experienced that with the black handle concealer brushes. The white handle works best for me. I also like the KBShimmer brushes as well as your Orly collab brush ;)
Haha trust me it's all smoke and mirrors 🤣 the only nail I can USUALLY apply well is my one swatching finger, but even then it takes a lot of concentration 😅🤪
my nail beds are so small that even a thin brush takes off a way too noticeable chunk of polish, so i usually run through it with a toothpick. the trick is just to get it cleaned off the nail plate and separate the bit that got on the skin from the flooding on the nail plate and remove that flooding, so when you put a top coat on it it anchors to the nail entirely
I always have people ask me if I get my nails done professionally. I literally just try to go as steady as I can for the first couple passes, then I clean it up with an old flat paint brush and voila! I’ve been following your journey with nails since 2017 and I think this was one of the first tips you shared
Imo, a hard tool like the other end of a cuticle pusher / toothpick does it better. You can somewhat “scoop” at the proximal nail fold to get the pooled polish out. Using a brush is great but you’d always remove more than you’d need to. If you don’t mind having some nail show, then it might be good enough for you.
I used to apply nail polish super messy, I'm talking 2 year old with a colouring book😂 that was until I started watching your videos! Now I rarely even need to do clean up and I actually enjoy doing nails now❤
this is so helpful thank you when i make that cuticle line after its dry it makes a spot where it starts to flake easily and its so annoying and thanks for reminding me to moisturize lol
Honestly might be worth a try! I find cleanup to be a lot easier than application tbh, because you can take as long as you need to swipe the brush across, and keep repeating until you're satisfied with how it looks (whereas with nail polish you do have to work relatively quickly or else it'll get lumpy haha!)
A toothpick, tiny dotting tool, wooden cuticle pusher, all effective to make an even looking nail gap. I use clean. I use brushes mostly for the skin around the nail
My best friend used to make fun of me for how messy I was when I did my nails lol. I only just starred using a clean up brush this year and wowww has it been a game changer!
Start off by placing the brush down the middle of your nail and carefully push it towards the cuticle while the finger is slightly tilted downward then brush towards the free edge. You can then go back and carefully sweep the sides with the brush using the polish that’s there already. The second coat doesn’t need to go as far back. This is a really neat trick if the brush is the larger kind or if the brush is very flimsy. Also, start with the pinky on your dominant hand and work your way towards the thumb, then move to the pinky on your non-dominant hand and work your way towards the thumb on that hand if you’re clumsy and bump your nails when applying.
For me, my left hand looks just fine. I’m right handed so I might get a couple little spots that I clean up exactly like this. There’s no winning for my right hand tho. I can’t do shit with my left hand so even when I go to clean it up with the brush I end up accidentally taking off more polish than I wanted to and I have to repaint the whole nail 😂
I use acetone with additive if I need additional cleaning up after top coat. I can't remember but I think I use straight acetone before, so the top coat adheres better? I don't paint my nails that often I can't remember lol
I'm using the Orly Dry Brush! I used to use concealer brushes but they dissolve or get ruined pretty quickly. This one I've been using for about a year now and it's still in great shape!
Honestly either works! I usually prefer to do it while it's still wet because I find it slightly easier to clean up, but some people swear by cleanup when the polish is dry! Test out both ways and see which you prefer 😁
I still need a little bit more practice because my clean up line with my brush is wiggly as heck lol, the corner parts of the cuticle. I don't know if i'm making any sense
Or buy the white liquid glue that dryes clear or latex and make a border around your nails. Let it dry. Do your painting as sloppy as you want. Then peel the glue. Voila perfect nails ❤
y'all, how do we take care of our clean up brushes?? I have one but it's just been chewed up by acetone, how do we keep the tips nice and sharp so we can actually do this? help
It's really about finding a brand that is resistant to acetone! I used to use the ELF concealer brushes for cleanup but I found myself buying a new one basically every month because the acetone ate up the bristles/glue lol. That's why I switched to using one specifically meant for nails - this one in the vid I've been using for about a year now and it's still stayed really nice!
Odd question; what little container do you put the acetone in when doing the clean up? Looks like you have a nice little glass container and I was wondering if it sealed so the acetone didn't evaporate out of it? I use a little plastic container but the seal isn't good so I waste so much acetone.
It's a mini jam jar! So it's glass and has a little lid haha. It's very convenient for storing acetone, so if you can find one from a gift set or a hotel you should keep it and wash it out!
PSA** do not do this with gel! Avoid getting it on your skin as much as you can because it will eventually give you contact dermatitis and a permanent allergy
Isn't acetone like... kinda toxic? When I was reading about it, I clearly found "avoid skin contact". I don't think it's on lvl "use it twice and you die, but it's something you don't want to use on your skin
Been doing this for years (around 7 or 8) and I am trying to get my mom to do it too, but nope 😅 She has very small nails though, so it's not as visible like it would be on yours or mine 😏 PS Thanks for commenting the polish name, cause that was my first (and second) thought 😀
This only works if the polish was freshly applied, but I use a toothpick and napkin to clean up the edges. It doesn't do the best at removing polish from the skin, but that's what a shower is for lol.
Careful being sloppy with gel polish. It is so toxic it can cause horrible allergic reactions and once it happens once, it will never stop and be just awful….
It can irritate your skin over time, I recommend washing your hands after using it! Honestly I've used acetone on my skin almost daily for over a decade (because of my RU-vid channel, I don't recommend doing it that much!) with no effects aside from drying out my skin!
Lol....Every time I see this kind of video my train of thoughts goes like this: 1) ohhh come on, do not exaggerate. Nobody is this sloppy. 2) well maybe there is noone this sloppy but why my nails look like this every single time? 3) nah, who cares. It will wash away in the shower anyway. 😂😂😂
Guys.... the brushes don't work well because you can't control liquid. there's a huge chance the acetone will drop and ruin avrything. wanna know what works better? Take a toothpick, then a tiny, light pinch of cotton, enough size to cover the end of the toothpick. then roll it on it. Dip it slightly into the acetone bottle so the cotton will absorb a bit, then you can use your cottoned tip to clean your nail way better :) that's how every Brazilian does that since always, I do my own nails since like 10yo.
