@@JasonRuppVlog when you do this do you ever wonder about 'trivial' things like the water this street barber uses (at least to clean his utensils)? Or the blade of the razor? It looks like it can hardly be clean let alone sterile. What would happen if you suffer a [small] cut? Is your body immune against all the possible infections?
@@dein1801 you can't ignore the tools and environment. They are not safe enough for anyone whose body isn't used to the bacteria in the water or didn't build up some kind of immunity to all those germs. If Jason can do it, fine for him. Most tourists shouldn't even contemplate following his example.
Lol 😂. Where are you a “master barber” this hurts just reading the comments. Great for what the guy is doing. But this is exactly what I expect from street corner hair cutting. 60 cents there is probably profitable but here in USA you’d be lucky to get $10 and most people would look at it as totally unsanitary.
@@powwowtrip5748 clearly he is talking about the man's ability not the setup or conditions in the country. And I live in a high cost of living area in the US. I'd pay this guy 60+ for that treatment. Amazing hair cut, clean razor shave, and a head/back massage? You're insane if you think you would get that for 10 bucks here.
@@aaronspeck1644 I didnt mean it that way. Im saying dont dish the barber in the states asking for way more when the whole economy is different. These guys in Indonesia might seem like they are charging nothing but its still a decent amount there.
Respect 🙏
Yaa ALLAH ... liat mas Aji terharu rasanya hati ini ...orang nya nampak lugu ...humble ...baik hati .... moga 2 sehat selalu Rezki lancar dlm keberkahan 🤲😥💪
This video is from February 2020 BC. Before Corona. For three weeks now, I have been in USA staying inside. Are you guys okay? I hope you all are staying safe and healthy. Remember to be loving and good to one another. The world is a beautiful place, especially when we are kind to each other. ❤ Check on your neighbors. See if they are okay.
Jason hope all is well with you and yours! They just implemented the stay at home order here in South Carolina and I’m hoping it slows this monster known as Covid down. I go to the Barbershop every two weeks and I’m going on a five week drought.😣
You can tell he really cares and is skilled at his craft! He is earning his keep and not just pan handling for money! I wish their social circumstances weren't so dismal but he seems happy and proud of his work and that's all that really matters!
@@JasonRuppVlog I have a challenge for you. I want to see if you can find someone who will give you a foot and also a hand massage. Have you ever had a hand massage? *{And no I'm not trying to make a crude joke} many of us use our hands for hard work (not me) and could really benefit by having the hands massage. Sadly this is usually overlooked.
I wonder if your Barber here has seen this video and does he know how many hundreds of people (from all over the planet) are complimenting his skills. Perhaps he has no idea that he is being seen by 1.5 million people so far...

If barbershops here in the US started charging $5 for a 10 min head massage at the end of every haircut it’ll be a game changer for both them and the client
because he pays no rent, ussually in indonesia street barber are still in a small shop 2x2m, arround 15.000-25.000, and if the shop is larger and looks fancy it'll cost 50.000 or more.
I'll pay this guy whatever he wants. His attention to detail and passion for his craft alone makes him worth it. He's 10 times better than half of the barbers here in the US with more than half the fancy equipment they have these days.
Joshua Jean-Louis agreed with you. I am from Bandung by the way, most of the street barbers cost you no more than $1 and they take care of your hair. Now i live in the UK, where the haircut costs you at least £15 for a decent one. It’s not even as good as this guy’s skill.
The look on his face after you gave him the money made my heart melt 😊 he really appreciate it and he didn't try to rip you off as well like some people do to tourists. He took his time as well.
I think this is the Best street barbershop haircut you've ever had jason.. And the price is very cheap 👍 respect you gave the man more, and hope you'll get more of it 👍 Stay save and keep jason handsome 😁
Love that this guy found a tree and was just like “yep, gonna park here”. If he was in the States I know people (including me) who would pay $40+ for this type of experience.
Wow Jason you paid that dude 10 times the cost of the haircut !! You are amazing !!! Love the way you treat people all over the world. You surely make Americans look good in their eyes. Thanks for that !! C ya ......
I love the way everything around him is utterly basic, from hanging utensils off the tree to the way he has it all set up using tarps yet his skills are so dialled in that you forget about all that, hes brilliant
Man, this haircut looks gentle. I love gentle barbers, they make me feel relax and sleepy. From all barbers I’ve been through there’s only been two barbers who are gentle to every haircut I get each time I go to them. Keep up the gentle work bud!
I am Indonesian. Thank you for making this video. I appreciate what you do in this video. So, all over the world will see how rich your experience when taking this video in Indonesia. Bless u, safe trip my brother.
I am indonesian and i can ensure that people from bandung, especially garut is best known as a good barber and spread around indonesia Also u will find good barber from east java Madura
We need more people like you who care about the people!!!❤️ this guys was a real humble barber and even tho that he doesnt have the best looking babershop he gave you the best haircut ive seen so far!!❤️ may god bless him and you for being so humble and helpful to this people.... great job @Jason Rupp completely amazing 🙏

Did you notice the oil thing that he poured at his hand before the massage? He called it "minyak sereh" Which is actually lemongrass oil, that's a quite expensive oil here. Damn, not only he did your haircut flawlessly, he also gave you a good massage with an expensive Oil. I'm from bandung, I would definitely visit him for the haircut and massage. Thank you Jason Rupp.
Working hard at NYP hospital in Washington Heights. My fellow healthcare workers at NYP are amazing. Doing what we can to save lives and make people better. Great to see Noochi and you traveling. These videos are helpful to decompress. Stay well. Be safe.
Hi, Jason. Just discovered your channel and I'm delighted to see the interaction between you and Aji (also the small audience that gathered around that tent). Very wholesome and heartwarming. Anyway, I'm Indonesian and quite a bit surprised that no other Indonesians have attempted to translate the things Aji said. To provide better context, here's a translation. (2:53) Aji asked, "What would you like? A haircut?". (9:55) He said, "Later I will use a razor for this". (17:39) He asked, "Still not short enough? Should I cut more?". (18:13) He asked, "Have you stayed long in Indonesia?". (19:37) He asked, "Would you like me to use 'soap'?". He was referring to the shaving cream. I don't know if he literally used liquid soap or mistakenly called a shaving cream soap. (26:47) He asked, "Is it enough?". (29:13) He said, "Minyak sereh. This is called minyak sereh.". Minyak sereh means lemongrass oil and he was telling you that that's what he'll use. The proper spelling and pronunciation of lemongrass according to the dictionary is actually 'serai' (pronounced səraɪ), but 'sereh' (pronounced səreh) is a very common mispronunciation, more commonly used than the correct one. (34:15) He said with a smile, "It's done". (34:33) He said, "Pardon?". (34:49) He asked, "Do you have smaller bill?". He was surprised you gave him that 100 thousand and at first expected that you wanted change, which he didn't have for that amount of bill. Hope this is somehow useful. If there's anything of interest that remains untranslated, just show me the timestamp and I'll translate it. Thank you, Jason, for the wholesome and comforting video!
Hey Jason. I think that this guy might be the best barber on the planet !!! I love the way he cuts your hair. You have never looked better !!! Dont worry Jason it will grow back before you know it. Enjoyed this video. I love Noochie too !! Take care Jason !! Be safe always !!
Thank you. I am an introvert and have a chronic illness, so sheltering in place is nothing new. I don’t mind it much. Your videos are great for wanderlust and tingly ASMR. Your pinned comment is so sweet it made me wistful for BC. The first time I’ve really felt deeply sad for what we’ve temporarily lost with social distancing. I’m looking forward to your first SAFE haircut AC. Best wishes and much love ❤️. Thank you.
@@dirtroten..." There was a magic chair, different cutting machines, exotic products, memorabilia" No one had a mask, even the diswashers were all lined up!
It's always amazing to see the quality of haircuts these guys give. Working on a sidewalk, under tarps, tool box screwed to a tree and still an amazing haircut and shave
Great haircut and great massage. It's like you could see the tension in your neck and shoulders melting away. I'm struck by this barber's circumstances, but also by his dignity and obvious pride in his work. And you did right by him so that's awesome too.
I really like ur videos. You behave like a really kind and a normal person, who doesnt care about money and behave like someone better than other people. Stay like this! Fan from Poland 🇵🇱
Thanks for showing us this, Jason. I am from Bandung, Indonesia as well and I learned a lot from these street barbers. And now I live in the UK, being isolated with Americans, Brits and other nations. And now I’ve become the barber for 15 people for free because they like how I cut hair. 😂😂😂😂
The barber is so talented! He is really good. He would clean up if he just came to America for 30-90 days then went back home. He would make good money easily. Thanks for sharing ❤️
Wow. Ive watched ALOT of your videos, but i have to say, that guy won hands down, KEEP JASON HANDSOME? He made you look 15 years younger and super dapper! Best one yet.
Unique fact: almost all good and pro barber in bandung like aji, they're from Garut City. because the city of Garut is also known as a barber town. and most of the barber they named ASGAR (Asli Garut) or Original Garut
Hey, Jason. I'm from Malang, East Java. You can literally find street barber like that all over Java. Well, maybe not as extreme as in this video, but for their awesome skill, you just need to pay for around 10-15k Rupiah. I really enjoy your videos, especially here in South East Asia.
Jason Rupp you really need to! But after this covid ends of course. We have an awesome nearby town called Batu as well. I’ll be glad to show you around.
At 29:00 Aji disagreed when Noochi said "it's a gel" and then Aji said "Namanya minyak sereh, kayu sereh" which translates to "It's called a lemongrass oil, from lemongrass wood."
He did an AMAZING job on your hair man, I love how nice you are to them, that was a nice thing to do to pay for the next 2 people on top of paying him 10x what he asked for. Hats off to you Jason
Moving to LA for my study soon. This is what im gonna miss the most from Indonesia. Barber with massage. In many places you can even ask them to only shave ur beard and get 10 mins head mssge afterwards. All for 50 cents 😂
Even though I'm from Indonesia" but this atmosphere reminds me like the atmosphere in India' the barber working under a very shady tree, makes me sleepy
Yes totally agree with. Aji is such a professional barber, his skills far exceeded those with lots of hairstyling certificates or those who had won hairstylist accolades.
Wish we had someone with this kinda detail in my town, hell we don't have anyone who can give a straight razor shave! Great job Jason I envy you being able to travel and live a great life with all these adventures. Keep safe and lay low for a while.
I miss getting my haircut now that we are on lockdown... generally my hair cuts are every 3 weeks but it’s been 5 weeks and I am so looking forward to when life returns to some normality ...
@@mpr2623 It's kind you think that. I live in a part of the usa where many ppl do extremely laborious work lifting fixing stocking packaging ect and only make 7.25 an hr. Which basically means many work 40 hours a week and are stuck in a poverty cycle as wages are low and continue to suppressed as we are an at will state where an employer can let you go for almost any reason...
I never thought I would say this but I wanna get a haircut from that Barber Aji. What a detail haircut man!!! I would pay 40 plus tip... Most barbers rush and arent as good as AJi... after I watched i felt asleep I was having a nightmare and Aji appeared in the nightmare gave me haircut and turn it into a good dream :-) Now thats a Master Barber
Aji can easily get $50 in Brooklyn, NY. Working in sunset park Dominican Barbershop. Very talented. But most of all humble and appreciative. If that was me, I’m cashing him out for the week. 💪🏾💵‼️
The kid has awesome skills. I’m a hairdresser by profession, a cut and shave of that quality would have cost you $80 in my salon. I hope you tipped him well.
That guy was a professional and the massage he gave you was as good as any I've ever seen. You need to keep your hair short you honestly look better with it that way 😁
40:45 that kid had great hair. I thought this barber was hands down the best barber I've ever seen. Imagine if he had a shoppe with better tools and products. While it wasn't the most sanitary treatment I would take my chances because he certainly had skills and we didn't see if he cleans the items in between clients. I'm sure he does the best he can with what he has. 🤗
I love how he specifically asked the guy not to cut top of his hair and proceeded to take off an inch and a half of his hair😂😂😂 it’s ok because it turned out great but I would’ve been mad
Nah man, Aji didn't really get it, even at about 17:37 Aji was asking "Kurang pendek Mr.? Potong lagi? (Sir, does it short enough? Do you want it to be cutted again?)". So yeah I think language barrier was playing its role😂, Im from Bandung btw, great video Jason! Keep up the good work!.
If you cut your hair in indonesia you just say "pinggirnya aja, atasnya jangan di potong" The meaning is " Only the side, dont cut the upper hair", Btw Thank you for your visit to Indonesia😊😊😊
