Can you imagine you never heard a sound and then they talk so loud that must sound scary like a thunder, they have to start with a very soft voice.

Was mir auffällt, die Mütter und Anwesende sprechen so furchtbar hoch in der Stimme. Dieses ,, Hey, hey ,, tut mir in den Ohren weh. Ich finde es aber natürlich großartig, dass es für die Kleinen schon solche Geräte gibt.❤

This is so cool; found in my RU-vid suggestions and wanted to share. I have decent hearing aid since I was 6 - I am visually impaired. So my mom or grandparents were always close by to say things, so while I said "what?" quite a bit, they didn't really catch that it could be a hearing problem till I went to school. I probably was thought to just have been in my own world at times. I did later find may have a touch of aspergers. Anyway, my first vivid memory is on vacation in Florida soon after I got my aid. The first morning there, I ran out of the bathroom, so excited squealing that the birds were all right up at the window. They weren't but I could hear the seagulls so well and it was just so Amazing even though they were entries, dozens of feet away. I had only heard them way down on the beach before.

I have a question about the toddler. When his mom said can you hear me? He nodded yes. How did he know what he was saying if he'd never heard her before.?

That’s a very interesting question. I think they can speak what they saw by watching their mom’s mouth when she speaks and the sine language? I don’t know myself just guessing.

Most aren’t completely deaf. They have some hearing. Even babies have learned some lip reading and voice recognition (They stop crying when their parents talk.) Hearing aids make speech and other sounds clearer (like putting on glasses).

If someone is profoundly deaf, they will react to sound with cochlear implants but will need time and speech therapy to learn to understand speech as well as improve their own speech.

@Just-Awesome Don't forget that the mother may have inadvertently given non-verbal cues that could have shown that she was trying to get the toddler to respond, cues she would give before. We may not notice those, but he could be used to it.
