I had slowly been losing my hearing since 19 (I didn't notice for a long time). My Mom had mailed me my step dad's old hearing aids (I was 34). I put them in and went outside to water my plants and I heard water! I forgot water makes a sound, running sinkful of dishwater, washing my hands. Please have your hearing tested regularly. Yes I have my own hearing aids now.: )

I was born 30% deaf so I could only hear every other word and not a lot of sound so I couldn’t understand much until about the age of 4 when I had ear surgery and I remember that my mom told me “After your surgery, we went home and you heard a plane for the first time and I couldn’t stop crying, planes used to fly over our house all the time and you never heard one until after the surgery”

I live in th uk. My daughter’s dad is profoundly deaf either worked in a deaf environment for many years. I couldn’t believe how happy these deaf staff were finding out their children were deaf. They didn’t want their children to be hearing. Deaf culture and deaf community were all they threw out even though they knew how difficult their lives had been. Was and still is something I find hard to understand

Our son, adopted at 5, had BAHAs after one month. Though not an immediate reaction, the results are phenomenal. Birds, jets in the distance, rustling leaves... Both shocking and almost scary. It's unfortunate they cost so much. Could help so many people. Mind you, they can't help all deaf people. Just those with a normal inner ear.

As someone going through hearing loss it's the most aggravating thing. I have a hearing aid and it helps in some situations, quiet room or amplified voice, other wise it's clutter. You learn smile alot nod and get blamed for not listening. I can hear my voice, at least, I've got that and now they have it. I know cochlear implants aren't perfect but they will learn to navigate that.

Cochlear implants, while not perfect, can significantly improve hearing for many people with severe hearing loss. It takes time and practice to adjust to the new sounds, but the results can be life-changing.💕

That is why I am contemplating cochlear implant. I just want to do a lot more research first since I heard if it doesn’t work, I will lose the slight hearing I still have.

I've been a drummer and a rock band for 40 years. I have destroyed my hearing. I can't hear birds chirping anymore. I can't hear people talking anymore unless they're talking directly to me and I read their lips I can relate. I can't relate completely cuz I can still hear a little but I so long to hear the birds chirping in the trees. I probably won't ever hear them again.

@@Just-Awesome I have had a hearing test . The doc wanted to shut one of ears off put a hearing aid in both ears and Bluetooth the sound from one side of my head to the other side. Basically wanted to shut the ear that's the worst off and make the one ear I have. That is better. I wouldn't call it. Good. Do all the work . I told him nah .. that would mess me up. I can't hear normal speech or anything really normal but when I'm in the band room and everything is wide open that's the only time I see any peace . All I hear is rock and roll. No ears ringing. No distorted sound, just music. And the guitar is always on the left and the bass is always on the right. I can't have one ear listening to both. It would mess me up. I guess the morel is take care of your hearing. Sometimes it's not fixable.

I have always wondered. If a person was deaf since birth, then without using sign language, then someone speaks to them in how do they understand the words being said if they have never heard those words before?

But I think it needs to be soft melodic songs (not to start with loud tones or sudden drums), no RAP, no sad songs but optimistic if possible or just to have clear nice sounds.
