If sewing a zipper and making a pocket is to advanced you can always just use a small old makeup bag or pencil case and stitch that into the inside of the stuffed animal, saves a lot of time!
@@Anarchivist343 you could try that but sewing is way sturdier. I'm not a fan of hot glue, it'll eventually fall apart on you and you'd definitely still have to sew the straps in place.
@@Anarchivist343 yeah, hot glue had betrayed me in the past, so even if you won't wash it, I still reccomend sewing it, it would be awful if your belongings end up falling in the worst moment D:
I just thrifted 2 matching black bears that I’m going to turn into a two headed bag! I love the look of it and one was already missing eyes so it’s a perfect candidate to be changed. ☺️ I love the bunny bag, so cute.
@@_comic_mischief_ I’m not sure what I’m gonna do? I may just replace them with big glass eyes or glittery buttons? I never even thought of theming yet tbh.
a good alternative to embroidery thread is dental floss or fishing line, since i dont have embroidery thread, its what i use when i need to hand sew something that i dont want coming apart under any circumstances
@@ahhh4117 honestly just overhand knot it a few times, pulling them really tight. been doing that for ages before i really knew how to sew properly, and it stays put like no other
I didn't even know it as embroidery thread, I have some from cross sticking kits and stuff So that's what I thought it was called. Also used it to make friendship bracelets.
theres a free pattern stuffed bunny online very much like the bunny pattern that you can just use instead and ive used it before to make bunnies for my little sister
That story about simplicity is so stupidly common with smaller designers - my mom actually made a jewellry piece many years ago that went on exhibit and was copied by a bunch of major brands lmao. It ain't right
I feel called out by the Bernadette banner reference lol Also, I got strangely nostalgic watching this video. Both of my grandmothers sew, and I too have generic leftover from a dress I had when I was little. It's a pastel ice cream print. Oh, and I'm pretty sure I have some of the lace you used.
Some additional tips for anyone else who wants to try this!: -If your making it from scratch and want to use a commercial pattern, I recommend finding a PDF pattern off of Etsy! There’s a lot good options like she mentioned AND the instructions are much easier to follow than commercial patterns so they’re super beginner friendly. Sometimes they have video instructions! -for the eye indents, do them at the end after the bear head has been stuffed. What I do is put my threaded hand needle right through where I want the eye to be, then have it exit through the CB seam on the head. Do it a couple of times until you like the indent then repeat it for the other eye indent. Then you can sew on button eyes. - if your pocket bag is small, box the corners so it can fit a bit more stuff! It’s when you sew the bottom corners of a bag to make it wider. If anyone has more tips to add, feel free to reply with them!
If you guys want other eco friendly stuffing tip, I like to use used dryer sheets, I save them in a container and use them to stuff things with a mix of yarn scraps, fabric scraps, and old pillows c:
I did this with my pillow pet to make a snuggly cross body bag! He's a ladybug and so good for when Im overwhelmed in public and need something to hug so I can ground myself :3 I love him, even if I get slightly weird looks cause I'd rather people look at me a little longer than usual than be uncomfortable and overstimulated
please never give safety eyes to a toddler!! they are still are choking hazard and can come undone. embroidered eyes and nose are the safe options edit: i know these bags aren’t for kids. i’m saying this because safety eyes were mentioned and i thought people should know that they come apart sometimes
While this is true to a degree, its important as well to supervise your young child with any toy that could have potential hazards and to routinely inspect them for damage that could create a issue. It might not be completely smart to give a toddler a toy with safety eyes, but only doing so with supervision eliminates a lot of the risk.
Sew Desu Ne/CholyKnight is another awesome option for patterns! Some free patterns on their website and a ton of cute ones for purchase in their Etsy shop as well! I've made a couple and they're easy to follow and can be printed at home :)
I’m so excited to use this video as my guide for my first Lolita outfit which is brown teddy bear themed! 🧸 It all started with a dress I found on Amazon and has quickly turned into an entire project but I’m so excited to make my little bear bag to go with it!!
I think I have a mighty need to make this but using simplicity pattern 8069 to make a penguin bag. I bought the pattern for the elephant which I dont think would work as a bag but the penguin would and now I really want to do that.
I found this at like…………… 1 am I think???? Roughly????? And I do not regret anything. Banger video, banger concept, banger tutorial, voice isn’t annoying the way most tutorials are, perfect pace, lowkey hella calming. Basically, love it. And now I have a reason to go to a thrift store >:) I swear thrift stores are treasure troves of goodies. My favorite store atm is the Goldmine. It works with the women’s resource center and gives most of the profit to that center. It also is just better than goodwill because sure it’s smaller, but there’s also less people. Less people is always a plus for me. I have been rambling woopsie
When I got to go through and take some of my moms unused patters. There was a simplicity rabbit pattern! You've confirmed I need to make that rabbit some time xD
Yess I love. I used to make plushie bags (well, convert plushies) for my business and haven't for a while. Deffo made me want to make some of em again!
I love both bags! The first one is so fluffy! The second one give me an old school, almost grandma's patchwork vibes (which is a compliment really!). Turning a care bear into a lolita ridiculously small purse is on my bucket list so i'll make sure i'll tag you when it's done! ;)
I've never sewn but I watched this whole video because it was fun and comforting. The bunny came out so wonderfully cute! I think I'll try something like the thrifted bear DIY this summer.
I've had a stuffed polar bear sitting next to my computer for the last few months that I've been meaning to turn into a bag. Guess this is a sign I should do that :p
I used this to make a bunny teddy bear bag from a stuffed animal I got from goodwill. I always wanted a teddy bear bag but most of the ones I wanted were really expensive, so thank you for this!
I saw the bunny in the thumbnail and i was like "hey i have that pattern, just finished my bunny today!", got fabric to make some and sell for fun with my bf but i had no idea Simplicity was problematic! thank you for bringing this up! and i literally just bought new fabric yesterday :/ Amazing video btw !
Ya know, I just thrifted this Vintage Derpy Dog plush that when I got home I discovered it had a zipper with an nonworking sound box. So, I thought about fixing the box to find out what it says, which I may still do. But, it has a pocket and zip already built in, so I'm going to just use it for a bag! I have 6 Manufactured Plush backpacks and 2 Handmade ones, but this will be my first one upcycled and by me, lol. You've inspired me. 🥰🥰🥰
This project seemed intimidating to me at first but you making everything beginner friendly and giving explicit details of machine and hand versions made me feel ready to do something like this! Thank you
ugh ur videos r so organized u even have ad breaks and time stamps?? im in LOVE with how u edit and the time/effort u use make the video easy to navigate. and not only that but ur vids r so clear and the tutorials are so easy to follow! and not to mention how cute the aesthetics are lol big props to u💕
I love the bunny bag!! All the different patterns, lace, & colors! Teddy bag is awesome, too! I just found your channel, I also sew, and I am digging your thrift flip ideas! 😍💖
Love this even though i don't sew at all. Hahaha. Btw some rillakuma bears already have the small pockets in their backs. So you just need to add straps 😍😍
Thanks really helpfull ! I have a few old sentimental-ish cuddly toys I don’t have the heart to get rid of but I also done want them to just become display peices. I’m definitely gonna turn them into fun contrasting bags. A lot of my outfits are very gothic so it’s always funny when I use my little bags aimed at kids :) I think it makes me look more friendly
I wanted one so bad but always thought it looked uncomfortable to actually wear, and last night I realized its the perfect excuse to carry a plushie around my arms anywhere (I always end up hugging pillows or bags anyway and makes me less self aware) Thanks to recommendations I found your video at the right time ( ◜‿◝ )♡
the second bag and outfit is breathtaking! such beautiful and delicate patterns 😍 the rose covered fabric makes me feel nostalgic, even though it's my first time seeing it.
I never knew handmaking a stuffed animal had so many steps! The final result is fantastic! :o I've been wanting to turn my stuffed giraffe Jeremy into a "bag" for a while! Totally going to use the ladder stitch method to get the zipper in!
my favorite bad when I was little was this white bear bag that my mom did the exact opposite of this tutorial to when I ripped the strap off, I'm gonna look for it and return it into a bag! ❤️
love your clear yet entertaining instructions, great job! another good place to find plush patterns might be secondhand bookshops. teddy bear and plush making books will usually have about a dozen different patterns and instructions for each.
I LOVE the fact that you used a bunch of scraps gathered over the years. That is so creative! I loved watching this! Both bags are so cute (but my favorite is the bunny!)
I literally just started wanting to do this this week and this video just popped up in my recommended! This is gonna be super helpful! Thank you for making it!!
If you need to shorten a zipper, you can stitch over the new endpoint several times and trim the zipper, leaving an inch or so to prevent fraying from damaging the new end point. If you use anti-fray methods (melt the polyester, pink it, etc.) you can trim it more.
If you're hand stitching, instead of using cotton/embroidery floss try using dental floss! It's super strong & I've even used it to sew back on the wee corner tag on the outside corner of a tent (where the corner pegs go) & 4 years later it's still just as good as day one 🙂
